Well, from my reading of what ST has said, specifically this post,

SexyTalon wrote:The point of the test server right now is to prove it works. What had been going on was one (VM) server was running several servers...however, if one server did something nutty and crashed the Minecraft jar, all of them on that VM would go down.

The new way is that every Minecraft server is on it's own VM server. While it all calls back to the same jar, if one server crashes it's Minecraft jar, it is the only one to die.

and this post

SexyTalon wrote:I'm going to dump the Established Server's world directory into the test server. Which means it won't be bukkit, but I'm just wondering how it'll handle it.

*edit* World dumped. Consider nothing you do there to be permanent, so... if you ever wanted to blow up my zeppelin, now's your chance.

to be saying that "the new server/IP is impermanent" so I'm assuming "old server/IP is permanent" (and that the way it works behind the scenes, in a way that that no one just playing would notice, is going to change).

Indeed. While it may migrate to the new server IP at some point in the future, when that happens I'll quite literally delete the world folders, download what's on the Old server and upload it to the new one.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was aware of the impermanence of the new ip, but wasn't sure what the status of the old one was.
Also, yay! Now I can torch some of my stuff to see how it burns without worries!

Indeed. I blew the everliving fuck out of my little airship last night. Given that I used 150ish squares of TNT to do it, I.. may have caused collateral damage to Spawn and other surrounding areas.

(More importantly, who the hell was living in the balloon?)

As a side note, I've replicated the old server on the New, so the Official Nether is there. However.. and I seem to recall this being an issue.... either bukkit reads The Nether different than everything else, or there's a config file I need to tweak or something.

In my experience Bukkit keeps the nether in "world_nether" outside the main world directory, and plain vanilla keeps it inside the main world folder. I could easily be very very wrong though, that is several versions old info.

So the second server isn't permant, does that mean we can blow stuff up that we've always wanted to?

I'm back!

So.. where'd all the iron golems go? I'm sure I unleashed at least 20. Most in the village are fine, but I can't find the ones on the pandoran streets. Have the zombies overpowered them?

Roos, I found myself spawned in your... thing... and I had to use some sandstone to bridge my way out. My apologies. I didn't have a pick to break them.

Also, who put that booby-trapped chest in the mini-MA space?

They're probably in deep water, just chilling out. I might go have a look around, they'll be there somewhere, and there's probably a way to make a path for them back to the land of sunlight and exploding things.

What do people mean by "golem farm"?

Also, sheep are now less insane, so it should be easier to get the population in the wool farm closer to an ideal.

Yeah, it looks like we're on the version where golems wander into water, but can't climb back out. There are a few wading around in the rivers near your place.

There exist golem farm designs based on villagers cramped into a small space, and a spawning position for the golem. You can then use water to drown them, or just unleash them into the world. Villages have a very small vertical axis bounding box, so you can just elevate the "village" slightly and let the golems drown down below, and new golems will spawn readily.

Since the server seems down at the moment, I'm testing out iron golem farms. They're actually remarkably simple, and efficient. I wonder if we should just build it near the sky limit, and let the golems drop down...

And right when I needed a door for the mini-MA fortress, too. It should do well for maintenance purposes.

Edit a few days later: So jungle trees are great for wood, but their sapling output is far worse than other trees and the vine thing takes time (do they ever grow with vines?). It's also annoyingly easy to miss a hunk of wood while going down.

I have lost the ability to play minecraft online for the immediate future, so I modded singleplayer and played there. Odd things are happening now, as in very strange.
Slowly the renderings of things has been rendering parts of the texture files and not the mob textures onto a mob, and occasionally dropping parts of the mob...
The things in the sky are NOT entities and part of any mod, it seems to be a cave that somehow glitched the rendering and pasted itself into the sky, all over the place.

(yes, those are backpacks in my inventory and a battleaxe. Mods are nice)

I assume that it is not a map, but a rendering done in the minecraft style. Note the shadows meaning it is not a mapping program and the lack of mine craft textures on the blocks making me think that it was not taken in-game with a shadows mod.
I could be completely wrong though.

That render is from a map called Crater Island, and that was a cinema4d render. However, the yogscast did show off a mod that allows one to render full movies in minecraft at n FPS, and stuff like that might make it possible to get these sort of things ingame...

(I'm also currently out of town and unable to get a backcopy of minecraft to play.)

My lilbro "Halgdp" would like to be whitelisted on the server. He's got a plastered arm so if he started griefing you'd be able to find out and stop him before he got to do anything serious cause playing with your foot is very slow >_>

For you wondering, he's got his left arm in plaster (is that how you say it?) so he uses the mouse with his right arm and moves with the arrow keys by putting the keyboard on the floor and using his toes.

Wouldn't it be easier for him to move the mouse with his foot, and use the keyboard with his right hand?
It might start off feeling awkward, but with good choice of mouse sensitivity, you can get rather good at foot-mouse coordination, and mouse buttons are much easier to use with one's toes than keyboard keys, in my experience...

Well, more recently I did this when I had strained my fingers bouldering, but the first few times were just to see if I could (I have been known to open doors, freezers and etc with my feet, so maybe that is just me...)

Halgdp and Odysseus5 you are both added.

Now...We could switch over to the plain vanilla minecraft server, what we would lose is some of the anti-griefing plugins that we were using bukkit for. We would gain reasonably prompt version updates though.
