But do what Zarq said. When you fuck up (and you will. Everyone does. Oh my have I said more than my share of stupid shit.) and someone calls you out on it (and they will) - take it for what it is. It's a chance to learn. A chance to rethink how you might view the world. And at the very end of it all, hey.. you may still think you were right to begin with.
But take the time to think it over. I'm not meaning twenty minutes, I'm saying a week or two. Read the conversation that develops after you fuck up (because.. again.. you will. Everyone does.) and think about it. We've got all sorts of people from all sorts of places, and it's neat to find that shit you thought was normal is pretty much only in your tiny corner of this entire planet of .. what is it now, seven billion?
I think creepy avatars are eventually going to outnumber noncreepy avatars.

I don't have any creepy avatars, so I'll have to make do with a creepy sig that makes people who aren't used to it think there are bugs crawling on their screen.

Don't forget though that sometimes people will call you out just to feed thier ego, it's not always justified so if someone jumps your shit first try and figure out if it's just one of the forum assholes. (Click users name ---> Flip through thier posts ---> Are most of what they say just that user being an asshole? ---> move on.)
Moving on since this isn't the advice thread.

Make the shoulder blades in your avatar occationally turn into eyes, blink once, and go away. That would CREEP ME OUT. Well not so much now that I said it, but it would have.

I have this problem from time to time, it's not that I cant find anything to spend it on, it's that I can't find anything I find WORTH spending it on. I spend hours per day on Amazon and Newegg like, "Oh I can get that, but ehhhhhh would I really use it, or I could get that!!! Ehhhhhh it's a minor upgrade that I would barely notice". Repeat for HOURS per DAY.
