Using a batch file for Windows Backup

Postby torontoraptor » Tue Jun 19, 2012 1:30 pm UTC

So recently I got tired of waiting for my computer to finish backing up before I could shut it down. Having not much else to do with my time, I decided to write a batch file to automatically run backup and then shutdown my computer. After teaching myself batch syntax and some troubleshooting, I have it almost completly working. Except for the backup itself. I try using the wbadmin start backup command, but it returns an error (with no parameters its supposed to run the regular backup). Does anyone know where I can find the settings for my regular windows backup so I can copy it, or some other way I can input the command?

What error message do you get, exactly? Are you running the batch file as an administrator? Does "Wbadmin get items" do anything?

It says I'm missing the backup target parameter, which I am, since I'm trying to just use the regular backup settings. Yes to running as admin, wbadmin get items properly returns old backups when I specify them.

Hmm. And you have created a scheduled daily backup, like it says?

Well, I did try setting the backup to once a day, but it still didn't work then. I'm not sure if there is a different specific thing they're referring to.
