My name's Joel
I broke a rule, and posted before introducing myself, but nobody called me out on it, so I thought I'd correct my mistake before they did.
I'm a 19 year old, 3rd year physics major at SFU.
I'm a programming hobbyist, currently working on a video game (or rather, currently obsessing over minute and specific algorithms and problems of some imaginary video game, while completely ignoring the core).
I do a lot of drawing, primarily in photoshop, now that I've got a tablet.
I'm a late to bed, late to rise, bottle of wine by night, tub of icing by day kind of guy.

Favourite movies include:
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
The Thing
The Fifth Element

I'm real, and I'm a linguistics major/CS minor.

Edit: And I just turned 21! Hooray!

Hoping to be a computational linguist one day. Yeah, I know, "Fuck computational linguists" and all that.

Yes, my name is Andrew and I'm a paltry 18 years of age. I likewise broke a rule and posted before introducing myself.

I go to UC Berkeley, majoring in English so someday if I'm very lucky I can be a starving writer.

Count me in on that punishment. Will do better to follow rules in the future.

Hi. From Coquitlam, BC here (it's close to Vancouver), and work for the bank. Very happily engaged.

I first discovered XKCD probably about a year ago, and loved it right away. The forums, however, I remained ignorant about until "Dream Girl" came out. I started to wonder how many other people would want to go to a park in Boston (of COURSE I Google Earthed it right away!) because of a random cartoon. Then I discovered the forum.

Didn't post in it for ages, but now that the "Dream Girl" meetup has finished, I wanted to see how it went, and this seemed the most appropriate place to check. And while I was there, I checked out the other threads...well, it seems obvious to me that I'll be here quite a bit over the next while.

Glad to meet up with everyone here.

Greetings.

I'm a 28 year old caucasian male of mixed European descent. I live in Reseda, California, about 25 miles northwest from downtown Los Angeles, in the San Fernando Valley.

I'm a college student (History major) who recently returned to school after a seven year break in which I realized I hated the mortgage industry and didn't want a career in retail...completing my education was my only logical goal.

I was only recently introduced to this site, but it didn't take me long to become genuinely interested in the strip after I realized it was pure genius.

Hi there humans,

The name's Emily, I'm a double major in Psychology and Computer Science, and in May my Boston-area college is gonna kick me out into the real world!

I enjoy random public silliness, pointlessly complex semantic arguments, and fighting social inequality.

I've been reading xkcd for a loong time, but after the meetup today (you may have seen me spinning poi or juggling) it seems like high time to forum-itize and meet all you wonderful people.

Hi Everybody.

My Name is Clif (with one 'f' and Short for Clifton not Clifford) and I am 19. I read the archives last night and i must say that although i didn't not get close to understanding everything the things I did understand I chuckled at. I read the Wheel of time and Play Trombone. I also Sing. I want to get an audio engineering degree or something of the Sorts, but i think it would be interesting to get a BS in Music at MIT. I write 'teh' a lot, without realizing it, Even on paper, Its true, My Senior English Teacher got upset with me. I don't know how to use a comma correctly. I hope this isn't too long. Tomorrow at some point Ill do the voice and or hand writing thing. ohh ya. I use OS X

::edit:: How could I forget, the Wheel of Time Is perhaps my favorite obsession. RIP Robert Jordan aka James Oliver Rigney Jr.

I for one welcome the new human denizens to the fora and would like to offer them a gift basket of soap and shampoo. Of course, it's bacon fragrance/flavored and is entirely organic. Tasty, no?

Great facial emotion display as well. I was gonna say he coulda looked more angry, but there is an element of sadness/hurt that implies a deep, complex NEED for the intro post, or else he just might go crazy.

Good show.

Hello!

Postby spectral » Mon Sep 24, 2007 4:44 am UTC

I apparently broke the rules and posted here before reading the rules, and before posting here. I got appropriately schooled, and am now attempting to make everything right. So, I've read the rules, and am now saying hello in the introduction thread (and have learned how to make a url without the ugliness actually visible in the text).

So, hello all. I'm not a spam bot. :) I'm a 25yo Software Engineer working for a company you've never heard of in Connecticut, a state no one knows how to spell, but am hoping to move to Japan soon. I was going to go to the meetup today, but I was sick. :(

Hello, I'm Mike. I'm an IT contractor living in Somerville, MA. I read quite a bit, am a big movie geek (especially bad ones) and have an eclectic music collection. Other things I do include gaming and helping to run a regional SF/Fantasy convention called Arisia. I've had several friends post links to xkcd before and just attended the September meet up. It appears an excellent time was had by all, self included. Thanks to everyone who helped organize it. You all rock like a rockin' thing. Kudos!

Hm.. the way the red text kinda mixes almost makes it look like it says "Please go to the Infro thread"

Which, one would presume, is a place to show off your 'fro for the first time.

Anyway! I'm Colin. I'm 19 and a music industry student (ex-EE) at Northeastern University in good ol' Boston. I joined because of the meetup, and the way things look, I'm not the only one. I am very much a real person. People I've met can confirm this. People I've met who are also real.

Hello,

I'm Alex, and I am made of meat.

I'm a 19 year old politics student stuck in the wonderful city of Coventry until I finish my degree.

I'm a pretty avid photographer, and have 2 fridges. The small one contains food. The large one contains one part ice cold (proper european) beer to one part photographic film. This is my recipe for success. The freezer contains vodka. In my spare time I teach people how to take photos.

I also read a lot.

The maths and science jokes I kind of sometimes get, but then tend to go on wikipedia, because if something interests me even slightly, my first reaction is to try and find out more about it. If the raptor is understood, it's goals can be undermined.

I'm a curious person, and tend to do weird things at 3am. I read the 'adventure' thread with great relish. The metaphorical kind.

That will be all.

My grand introduction.

Postby oasisob1 » Mon Sep 24, 2007 4:51 pm UTC

Hello, it's me, obiwan.
I was born in the early seventies,
joined the Navy in the late eighties,
and serve yet today.
I like things.
I like to read about things.
I like to know how to do things.
I know how to do many things.
Some of them are not legal.
I tend not to do those things.
Also, the dead hookers in my trunk,
were not dead when I put them there
(reminder to put air holes in trunk before adding hookers).
I'm not right, people often tell me.
They are right, but I don't mind.
Being me is who I am.
Why should I be different?
There's a secret pattern
to this post.
I wonder if you can decipher it?
Because I certainly cannot.

mrorange has nothing to do with resivoir dogs, orange is my vavorite color and i accidentally posted in one of the daily comic threads first. oopsie. this is my first sort of foray onto the "real" interblag and my "real" i mean an online community as oppsed to silently lurking in the shadows and just reading comics. im 16 from fairbanks alaska and it is freaking cold here 9 months out of the year. i dont even remember how i stumbled upon xkcd but it pretty much speaks for the collective subconcious of intellegent humankind. and also possibly the collective unconcious. or something. im super interested in science and usually i avoid using words like "super" in conversation. i dont know what happened it just came out. for some reason frisbiee is the only kind of excercise that doenst leave me winded in five minutes, a curious phenomena indeed. so thats me. ask questions, ill be asleep and answer you when i get up. have a good one.

'Ello. I'm a 22 year old guy in my first year of grad school studying physics. I discovered xkcd about half a year ago, and it instantly became my favorite webcomic. I've been lurking here for a while, and will probably continue to do so mostly, but I figured I'd go ahead and introduce in case I ever get the urge to post. So, some basic information about me: My favorite punctuation mark is the semicolon, my favorite Firefly episode is War Stories, and my requisite mad scientist evil scheme is to destroy the sun (ideally by collapsing it into a black hole).

I have been reading XKCD for I don't know how long; probably since whenever I read about it due to another webcomic. I love how internet media works like that. I do not get some of the jokes but that is okay, isn't it?

Hello!

Postby anjelliclekat » Mon Sep 24, 2007 9:30 pm UTC

Hello all,

I'm Jellicle, 19, currently attending college in Boston. I've been reading the comic for about two years now, but never actually got around to joining the forums until the meetup on Sunday. Anyways, hello!

I'm interested in languages (unfortunately not the kind written in 1's and 0's), and am probably going to be a Japanese and/or Spanish major. I'm originally from southern California, with a dependence on beaches and warm, sunny weather. Since coming to Boston though, I've come to like snowy days and hot tea while curling up in a fuzzy blanket and a book, or homework as the case may be. I like fuzzy things and animals, but have a pretty cynical opinion of most people. Oh, and I fold origami.
