So, dog spots a cat whilst out running. Usually if we are in cat territory I put him on the lead bit I'm in Cornwall and I was trying a new route. Dog runs at cat, cat bumbles across path without a care in the world. I'm yelling and panicking: clearly the cat is blind/deaf/infirm not to react to incoming squirrel killing spaniel. Dog arrives, lunges at the cat who turns and swipes him across the nose. With a surprised look on his face the dog has another go and the cat thumps him again, then finishes walking slowly across the road. The cat then hops onto the wall of his house, the dog jumps up to try to follow and, with the advantage of height the cat thumps him a third time.

By now it's filtering through to my dogs pea-like intellect that this isn't going so well, so he reverts to plan b - sit back and bark like mad. All this does is set off the 2 dogs living in the house (Alsatians by the sound of it). Clearly this small cat already lives with 2 big dogs and has come out on top. One stupid springer spaniel trying to be a big man isn't enough to even raise its pulse rate. Respect to that cat!

I'm hoping my dog will learn a useful life lesson from this, but I suspect not.
