I'd be up for it. There wasn't much enthusiasm for the 'official' meet up so it never got organised, but if someone organised one I'd make an effort to be there.

ok, i know explosions in the sky are playing on the 23rd January. (tickets £12.50) - brighton concorde 2.

before then, we could meet at sussex uni (falmer station) AND the tv room at my halls is fucking awesome. AND we have a campus bar just across the road.

(ok, so its a long way from brighton, but c'mon! its 2 days after my 21st birthday. that would be awesome to the power of win!)

The trouble is everyone has the same problem. The beauty of the comic meetup was that there could be no dispute over location and time.

That is true. Perhaps once we have enough people interested, we could see where everyone lived and where was most convenient? London is a pretty major population centre so there is likely to be a reasonable proportion of people there, but then forum member statistics might be somewhat skewed, especially if there aren't that many of us.

Also, having the meetup at an externally-organized event might make it quite hard to find everyone and, even if we did manage to get around that, it wouldn't be quite the same sort of atmosphere. Hyde park is big and... parklike... meh. It'll happen where it happens, but we still need more than three people :P

I'm in London, but like excuses to go somewhere else. Specially after mid-November, when GF goes back to Australia 6 weeks before I do, and I've nothing to do.

It would be cool if we could meet up to see a gig in november-ish - but I don't know what, and I'm also poor...

I'd be interested myself. London would be handy for me, I'm working in Brighton (well, Falmer) during the week until the end of the year and can stay the weekend if something interesting gets planned.

No-Genius, Many XKCD'ers in Sussex university? I walk there during lunch sometimes, seems a decent campus.

But London is expensive to get to...

(Though in fairness it's unlikely I'd be able to make it to anything unless it was ridiculously near to me, so my opinion can be more or less ignored. :P)

Imperial's student paper syndicates XKCD, so I've got a feeling there's at least a reasonably-sized fanbase, though how many of them would be aware of the fora is a different question. I might be able to try to spread awareness though.

Theres at least 2 xkcd-ers at sussex uni :D

I think london is the best place, since its easy to get to for most people (and I can't afford to get to anywhere further away than that)

of course I wouldn't object to a brighton meet up, seeing as thats where I live..

what sort of thing would we be doing at the meet? we could just find a pub or something to go to, but the pics from the other one have raised my expectations somewhat...

I don't think this deserves it's own thread so I'll post here...

I'm thinking about going to a gig in Glasgow where The National are playing. Would anyone else be interested? Going to gigs alone sucks.

If it was just going to be a meet up in a pub, someone might at least throw a party - so much more scope for creativity. Alternatively, a day out at a roller coaster would be fun.

I like it! The Go pieces would be much easier to smuggle onto the coaster and stick down as well.

Also, I meant roller coaster park, although I figure you intelligent people gathered that since there are very few solitary roller coasters...

Just 'hanging out' :P. I don't think that a meetup like the recent one in the US will happen in the UK anytime soon, daytime/weather isn't lasting long enough these days for something like that anyway.

There are plenty of decent and quiet enough bars in the hotels on the Brighton seafront. Could just meet in one of those at say, 6/7ish some weeknight in the next few weeks. Anyone in the area pop along for a while kinda thing?

Or we could dress as pirates and invade the pier.

I may be interested. I'm from Stoke-on-Trent, but London's not to bad to get to given sufficient notice. (Thre weeks in advance, I might be able to travel 1st class for £20 - on the day, standard class starts at £60). Other places in the south tend to be more difficult.

In the last example of this topic I suggested Blackpool since there are varying degrees of rollercoasters, several with cameras.

My top preference would be Leeds. We do have several wide green spaces that we could turn into something.

Anyone want to ask Randall to draw a comic specifying co-ordinates in time and space situated in the UK?

Think he takes requests?

Leeds isn't the only place in the UK with wide, open green spaces. I don't mean to sound patronizing; it's just I'm not sure how convenient it would be for most people to get to. Most people so far seem to be from London, Sussex, Brighton - all in the south of England. There's a chance some of us might not be able to attend even if it stays relatively nearby, because of travel costs.

Seconded on both accounts. Note that for both the british moderators, blackpool is convenient.

Do you ever, ever come to London, or anywhere nearby?

I never, ever go to Blackpool, or anywhere nearby, and I suspect a number of others here don't either.

In the end, what we are looking for is (I assume) maximum turnout. Therefore, the issue of whether the location is convenient for moderators is, whilst relevant, perhaps not top priority. If Blackpool turned out to be the most convenient location for everyone, that would of course be fine.

Squee!! UK meetup! Me want come!

Also have friend who introduced me to xkcd whom I will drag along by force.

I live in Essex, go to London lots, and work in Hertfordshire. So London = good, other South-East = ok. Sorry Leedsy people.

We could hire a private area in a pub (although everyone sounds skint. As the seeming only working grownup I can pay a bit more?) and bring playpen balls? Or each come up with xkcd-esque questions for our own pub quiz. Or talk and stuff. Or go karaoke! Sorry I just love karaoke and can never get anyone to go with me ;)

What timeline we talking? Not that everthing's about me but I'm crazy-busy until mid-November and just mildly-eccentric-busy until the end of the year.

Don't worry about being near Blackpool anyway Lead, I don't particularly notice/like many of the English members here and thus wouldn't turn up anyways.

With 17 people showing an interest there's not much to go around between several different meetups. PS willing to travel btw, didn't say that before.
