Well, BlitzGirl is experiencing a bit of a title wave.

When your quest is complete, you shall acquire the title of Blitzgirl the Next. It is one of the highest honors that can be conferred in the OTT.

ttsp wrote:To answer somebody many newpages ago, yes I do find myself thinking newpix and having to translate to outsider.
I don't think in newpix, but I do take advantage of the lookahead in my brwoser address window. When I type 'f', the first entry in the eager dropdown list is "forums.xkcd.com", which I then select. However, I have caught myself typing 't' and expecting my browser to suggest "the One True Thread". Alas, my browser has not caught on.

And Blitzgirl - that Boom-de-yada was awesome! I bet if it were made available as a poster, it would outsell some of Randall's own. And I think Randall would be pleased.

The river is small, but maybe it is wide. And black.

I thought the dark matter thing was debunked, Newpage 196:

Sorry to break it to you, but dark matter is generally considered invisible. Pretty sure I'm right.

And coffeecokesaltsugarmilkshakewater sounds way too delicious to belong to the One True Comic. Unless Cuegan drinks it, and dialogue follows commenting on how delicious the River is (as well as how small).

I'm caught up! Of course, I stayed up reading the OTT in bed till coma overtook me, then we my friend Catherine woke me in the middle of the night, I opened up the computer and read a few more NewPages.

But on the way to work I thought about the xkcd-Regular.otf font that I installed after "Externalities," that I was going to use for "mustard," and suddenly realized how I was reading the file extension to myself. I'll spoiler it so you can see for yourself if you've been spending too much time here. How do you read xkcd-Regular.otf?

The One True Font indeed!! I've been repeatedly late to workOutside stuff almost every day b/c of catching up on the OTT. I need an internetervention.

Yep. On my way to work, I was thinking, "OK, when I get in, I have to do x and y before I do anything else, and get started with z, THEN I can read the OTT. Um, that didn't happen. The only reason I've gotten any work done at all is because people come in and I have to change my screen to something work-related. And yesterday, I was working in MS Word, and I needed to add a new page. I clicked on "Break..." and realized I really expected it to say "NewPage."

I may have a problem.

Thaaaaanks. I use to be a seamstress.1

Also, it should be noted that ever since the white/slightly darker white second-to-last frame of the white-out phase... I have been checking the sky and ground for any color anomalies, so far it has just been plain #FFF and #000. But I will continue to check for the remainder of Time.

"Tailor" I would venture... but for us readers of Terry Pratchetts Discworld series "seamstress" has quite another connotation. (One that almost made me cough out the tea I was drinking, while reading your posting.)

Leader: You ok?
People: Just got some in my mouth.
Leader: Any idea where the river is now?
People: Still pretty far out. It's actually retreated a little this week.
Leader: I don't understand what the sea is doing.

(All observe a meditative silence)

Leader: I don't think we can build it much taller than this.
People: It's been fun, though!

(The leader makes a sipping sound)

Leader: Pfffth Pthuh!
People: Yuck.
Leader: I've had worse.
People: Guess one of us should climb down.
Unison: Yeah.
Leader: The sea is rising.
Unison: Yeah.
Leader: Sea level rises and falls, right? It's changed before.
People: Not this fast.
Leader: The river hasn't even reached the sea yet.
People: The river is small. The sea is big.
Leader: How big?
People: I don’t know.

(Several beats of silence are observed.)

Leader: Does it Rain on the Sea?
People: I don't know; if it does it seems like a waste.
Leader: It rains in the hills where the river comes from, right?
People: Sure.
Leader: Are there other rivers?
People: I don't know.
Leader: There must be other rivers.
People: Otherwise the sea would dry up.
Leader: Maybe it's coming out of the ground.
People: Does that happen?
Leader: I don't know.

(Another moment of silent reflection.)

Leader: I don't know how the sea works.
People: I don't know how anything works.
Leader: I don't think it's going to stop.
People: The sea can't just make more of itself forever.
Leader: It can do whatever it wants. It's the sea.

(Contemplation of this revelation)

Leader: There must be a reason. There's a reason for everything.
Unison: Yeah.
Leader: But it's not always a good reason.

(Pause for tolling of the Time Bell, then meditative silence)

Leader: There must be other rivers.
People: Maybe something is wrong with them.
Leader: I like our castle
People: I think it's going to go away.
Unison: Yeah.
Leader: Do you think there are other rivers?
People: Something is adding water to the sea
Leader: Does it have to be water? Maybe something is adding more land somewhere...
People: And it's making the sea overflow.
Leader: Or maybe it's just raining somewhere
People: We have no idea what's out there.
Unison: Yeah.
Leader: Want to find out?
People: Yes!
Leader: I'll get some bags

(gets out the holy knapsacks)

People (softly): bye.

(pause for passing of collection plate, singing of the holy song parodies, and perhaps ritualistic flatulence, then once silence is restored...)

Leader: Have you ever been this far?
People: Not this way.
Leader: Maybe the sea doesn't end.
People: We haven't walked very far.
Unison: Yeah
Leader: But that's what the first part of not ending looks like.

There will be a pot of gold at the end of this Time-rainbow. Unfortunately, it will all be in black and white, so we'll theorise that it's banana fudge souffle or something.

We have no concept of how long this has been in their universe, if it has only been 1 day over all of these frames, then we can assume that even if night occurs soon, and the frames so far have been about 16 hours, (given a circadian rhythm of 2/3's awake, 1/3 asleep) then they need 8 hours of sleep, OR OVER 500 MORE FRAMES OF JUST NIGHT! See you all in a few weeks :-)

Actually, if rising of the sea was caused by the tidal force and not because something is adding water1 to the sea and they are on Earth, it couldn't have been more than 6 hours2.

1Maybe something is adding more land somewhere
2Or 12 hours if they are in place with diurnal tides

Either option is even worse, so we are looking at either 680+ Sleeping frames with Diurnal tides, or 1300+ sleeping frames with Regular tides. That is of course assuming a lot about the day/night cycle, time actually passed (which we know is variable Timey-Wimey stuff). My best opinion is that the Sea is behaving strangely and doing what it wants, so not tidal.

Alright, we're at the River!!!

So this is a good time for this (and thanks to jjjdavidson for the thought!):

"Take Me To the River"
(based on, of course, "Take Me To the River" by both Al Green and the Talking Heads)

Spoiler:
I don't know why, I love IT like I do,
all the changes, the Wait's put me through.
Took my castle, my trebuchet
and I haven't seen the worst of it yet.

I wanna know, can you tell me?
I wanna stay....

Take me to the river, drop me in the water;
Dip in the river, drop me in the water.

I don't know why, Randall treats me so bad
Think of all the Time that I could have had.
Time is an ocean that I can't forget
My sweet sanity -- gone with no regrets.

I wanna know, can you tell me?
I'd love to stay....

Take me to the river, drop me in the water;
Dip in the river, drop me in the water.

Hold me, tease me
fool me, please me!
'Til I can't, 'til I can't, I can't take It no more!

C'mon and take me to the river, drop me in the water
Dip in the river, drop me in the water.

I don't know why, I love IT like I do,
all the changes Randall's put me through
I had a life, that I can't recall,
I'm sure that I'm the biggest fool of them all...

I wanna know, can you tell me?
I'd love to stay....

Take me to the river, drop me in the water;
Dip in the river, drop me in the water.

Take me to the river, drop me in the water;
Dip in the river, drop me in the water...

The first two are fairly obvious (at least to my apparently-10-year-old brain), but I'm somewhat unsure what "souffle" could be a euphemism for.

The comic could just fade out to skip over hundreds of frames of sleep. In fact, maybe it already did.

I was immediately disappointed that there was no hovertext, so I went to the OtherComic and looked it up to read the hovertext. Now I remember 1037.

I don't think I can include alt-text here. Anyway, which 1037 did you remember?

EDIT: Nope.

And in three words, this is whole essence of the One True Comic: With each answer comes confusion and more questions.

So... have we reached the point where the characters we're watching know just as little as we do?

My money would be on "something". I'd prefer bacon1, but on past experience it'll probably end up with the indescribably2 tangy flavor of semencancercoffeeiceicebaby mixed in with it.

1 Dammit now my mouth is watering. And I have no bacon3.
2 "indescribable" since I've never been fortunate enough to ever actually taste the stuff. It probably tastes like chicken though.
3Yay! A coworker just handed me a chocolate milkshake. With whipped cream. And a cherry. A cherry. And it's just gone the top of the newpic, and there's cryptic dialog too! Did I mention Yay?!
We can't go back.
We don't understand everything yet.
