I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet. For those who didn't already know: the Book of Aubron has been healed of its impurities. It no longer contains heretical copies of that one frame. It's also been updated to display the Outside's way of describing when the frame first aired on the site.

I haven't reinstated the papacy, I've started a new sect. You don't have to be part of it if you don't want to.
ETA: here's where I established it.

Yeah, I sent him a note, a newpix or seven ago. (With a link to my list.)
Looks like he also included the “apocryphal” frames from my list, so the Aubron count is now 3 ahead of the canonical count.
Also, the bug around the duplicated last frame seems to be fixed.

Edit: Geekwagon seems fixed too.

Is it my browser cache or something, or does geekwagon contain the alternative 'chutney'1 frames?

1 Because they have major grey. Sorry. You can go on thinking it's mustard2 if you like. Maybe it depends on whether we saw Cueball poup on the beach.3

Yeah, I know, I just felt that it had to be suggested regardless, as the 'Time is ending!' prophecies of doom have not always made sense anyway.

What wouldn't make sense is the end of Time without a prophecy to foretell it. If it hasn't been predicted, it's just a random event; noise. We must keep at it until we get it right.

Looks like you're right.
Geekwagon used to link to the images on the xkcd image servers, i think; but not anymore: it now loads the images using data: URLs. (E.g.: “data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KG...”. It probably has them stored locally.

Edit: it has them stored locally (example). The data: URL is because it doesn't simply load it into an , but onto a (to be able to do the diff stuff).

True, but I'm pretty confident that if Time does end, somebody will have foretold it shortly before.

OMR! Get back from outside weekend away and I'm 30 newPages behind. Don't know if I have time to do a giant ketchup right now so I will cheat!
Image

My outside wife won a weekend away so have been off doing that. The scary thing though is that in two weeks we are off to Europe for a month on our honeymoon. Will Time still be going then or will it end while I'm away?

Also I come back and you guys have some how broken the OTC! Fix it now!

Is there something wrong with the times stamp. It is 6:13 pm here and the time stamp is showing 5:13 utc. It should be 10:13 utc. Right? What is up with that?

It's a phpBB quirk. The UTC actually corresponds to the server's clock, not to your time zone setting. You might need to adjust your time zone, though, presumably for Daylight Saving Time, or Summer Time, or whatever you call it where you are.
Added²: Oh, I see from your location that you're in PA, EDT. So, Daylight Saving it is, then.

Posting from about 2 hours back.
jjjdavidson wrote:ETA: Warning - nerd stuff. Okay, it's not the image server itself, it's the server that does the redirect from time.png. When you request http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/time.png you get connected to c.xkcd.com, at one of several different servers in the 107.6.97.xxx range. And if c.xkcd.com happens to resolve to 107.6.97.102, it always redirects you to f8a64...png.

When I try http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/time.png, I get a long wait, and no pic at all. Instead redirect to http://c.xkcd.com/redirect/comic/time and "This webpage is not available".
I see now that this is a bigger issue that a bad URL in your post.

From the actual web page I get the timeout box, so no image. Other xkcd comics seem to be working just fine. Are they on the same servers?

I like to think that right now a massive klaxon is blaring and red lights are flashing while Randall grabs an emergency tool box before making an intrepid trip through cramped corridors filled with smoke to reach the server room where he has to defeat a highly intelligent computer virus (you know, like the ones in movies which 'mutate' to counteract everything you do) to bring xkcd back online...[/quote]
Randall has a sysadmin, so he wouldn't be doing it personally.

I didn't want to post earlier (and ruin my 500th), but the servers started to immediately refuse the connection instead of hanging, so that probably meant someone was restarting things.

Edit² (don't want to ruin my post count, maybe I should go coma): so it is definitely still a river, and they haven't looped round back to the sea.

The "utc" is a lie. The time is in whatever zone it says at the bottom of the page. You can change the settings in the User Control Panel. I recommend choosing a date format that doesn't have 'e' in the format string (or choose a predefined one).

Whew! indeed. I'd also been wondering if someone was reconfiguring/rebooting the servers, because I noticed my downloads stopped getting the f8a64...png frames about two hours ago.
Edit: Spoilered the image.

With thanks to MostCynical: here is an updated flowchart which may be slightly less heretical! (Also it has a 'Start' now, which was bugging me!)

Great chart. Needs a delay link from "Wait for it" to "Start". (Optimally, also a box "Initiate of Time" between Don't Know and Wait for it.)
