Ooh I have a pertinent fact. Well, I hope it's a fact, and I didn't dream it.

Baobabs aren't naturally found isolated like this. You'd normally expect to see them surrounded by other forest, presumably of similar height. So what these iconic images are really showing us is dramatic, almost total deforestation.

I'm not 100% convinced that it really establishes location. Just because baobabs are native to Madagascar doesn't necessarily mean that the OTC is in Madagascar. Perhaps Cuegan are simply somewhere which happens to have baobabs which are not indigenous. After all, the swallow may fly south with the sun, or the house martin, or the plover may seek warmer climes in winter, yet these are not strangers to our land.

If those baobabs are non-indigenous, then they would have to be living in our future, because it takes centuries (or millennia, depending on which botanist you listen to) for them to grow that size.

I agree, almost 2 months of an hourly updating comic, and already we get a clue of where they are? This is too fast.

Could it be British Columbia, Canada (in the summer?)

that's the important constraint. Six centuries would be a conservative estimate for the age of these trees. The earliest it would be plausible for anyone to have cultivated one outside its native region is about three centuries ago. So at least one of these must be true:

That still leaves a lot of latitude, but some possibilities are ruled out, such as the Jersey shore in 2113 after the Atomic War.

So... when we figure out the exact location on Madagascar, and the exact date that Time is happening, are we expected to show up there?

Took all day to ketchup, but have no specific replies.

Finally some tree-sized trees! No trees they've seen so far have been more than 2 cues high, which seems (to me) rather short for a tree.

that's the important constraint. Six centuries would be a conservative estimate for the age of these trees. The earliest it would be plausible for anyone to have cultivated one outside its native region is about three centuries ago. So at least one of these must be true:

1. The OTC takes place within the native region of the trees we see.
2. The OTC takes place at least 300 years in our future.
3. It's a fictional setting whose geography and/or vegetation is arbitrary.

That still leaves a lot of latitude, but some possibilities are ruled out, such as the Jersey shore in 2113 after the Atomic War.

Well, who knows how an atomic war can boost up some species? Maybe they're mutant trees which have grown in a couple of years...

Another possibility:

Perhaps these are not real baobabs... Mayhaps it's a defensive display of another, lesser tree, frightened by the arrival of Megan and Cueball.

You know, kinda like how...

That would explain why they could not see said trees until they were at the top of the hill.

About 6 newpages ago, mid way through my ketchuppy, I blind-posted... THAT post is now 3 newpages behind and I finally, just now, caught up after a terribly stupid busy dix at work. AND I MISSED GIANT TREES HOLY SHIT!

This hit me really hard... and I think it's beautiful, even if you didn't intend for it to be so. Religion aside (as I'm atheist), I like the thought of those poor children (Oklahoma tornado victims) frolicking around in Cuegan land, building sandcastles and trying to figure out how the sea works.

Given that I never eat cupcakes, and in fact I never hear the word cupcake in my daily (and not daily) conversations, it must be the OTT's cupcakes that slipped into my coma.

SUCCESS!

In a time like this sometimes all I can do is quote someone else, because my words can't seem to fit the page right. (The most in-appropriate appropriate thing ever said)
Anya:
But I don't understand. I don't understand how this all happens. How we go through this. I mean, I knew her, and then she's- There's just a body, and I don't understand why she just can't get back in it and not be dead anymore. It's stupid. It's mortal and stupid. And-and Xander's crying and not talking, and-and I was having fruit punch, and I thought, well, Joyce will never have any more fruit punch ever, and she'll never have eggs, or yawn or brush her hair, not ever, and no one will explain to me why.

Well seeing that we are all here because of the OTC and our creativity comes from the inspiration of the OTC, those that generate awesome contribute to the total awesome that the OTC is. So it can never be heresy because it will be impossible to be greater then the OTC because you contribute to the OTC and the OTT.

This comic isn't much in the business of ending.

We could start a new tradition, a cult of doom - after each ONG someone must throw in a theory about why this is proberly the last Frame.

Within our Cult, we have lots of sects, including the Fatalists and the Amoebocysts. Join us, we have horrible terminal illnesses macarons!
