That's beautiful, you're in harmony with the OTT! I can't imagine why you'd want to ruin that, but if you must, just change your relative post rate by a non-integer factor and you'll break up the harmonic resonance. There's no need to stop posting altogether.

Here is our view of Cueball's shadow (from above):

This has me thinking about what kind of shadows stick figures can leave. Certainly their big round heads can leave big round shadows, but what exactly can you do with stick-shaped arms? The fact that they can cast a shadow implies that the lines that make up their arms, legs, and torsos have definite and measurable width.

Note that the fact that they can cast shadows should also eliminate any remaining ambiguity about whether their world is 2D or 3D.

A more important observation is that all of the other objects - sandcastle parts, trees, molpys, beesnakes, buckets, trebuchets - clearly have multiple dimensions and can leave shadows. Why, then, are people the only stick-figured entities in the world? Why aren't Cueball and Megan encountering stick-figured squirrels and stick-figured birds in their world? <dons armor in anticipation of being stoned as heretic>

Do not argue with dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

Also, I'm pretty sure there are more pictures of dragons breathing fire than pictures of fluffy...

In more comic related news, could the reason that they don't have the same profile be either that
A) Cuegan are not native to the world on which they currently live
or B) Cuegan are extradimensional beings who we only percieve as pertubations on the fabric of 4 dimensional spacetime as represented by a 2 dimensional image, and the animals and landscape are not.

You can have shadows in 2D. However, I believe the world they are in is 3D and what we see is a 2D representation (different from slice).

Blitz progress: 597 of 737
FallONG down the Dunes, np 1269

Just made 11 NewPages of progress this morning. I figure that's pretty good. Also, the thread seems to have slowed down a bit. Not sure if that's good (meaning I might ketchup quicker) or bad (we are running out of things to talk about in my future). Or maybe it's still going full speed ahead and I just have a warped sense of it.

If they were walking east along the sea shore for days, then they would have to be on the north or south end of the landmass they're on (or on a really large bay on the west coast). That should help narrow the search parameters a bit for those scouring google maps.

Chaotic Pile of Ketchup (vol 5)

Spoiler:

"Fries anyone? Ketchup crash snarls traffic in Nevada"

Volume 5 of assorted replies as I try to get caught up from 20 NewPages in the past...

Ah, well. Outside, pressures of; following along and posting from smartphone, annoyances of; etc., etc. So, alas, I bring no sestinas, song filks, double-dactyls, anagrams... or at least not yet2. But I skipped no posts in all those NP, either. A very thoroughly blended ketchup, was mine.

To the OTC... if Megan was on a quest to gather food, why is she offering some to the squirrel? Bait?

Edit: ninja'd?

Welcome back to the Present of the past! I hope to join you in the Present of the future at some point. And I love the "promising writer" line! I will cheerfully pinch that as well! :D

I disagree with your hypothesis that the introduction of new food is caused by hunger. I have always believed that it is accidental, and probably also the result of stupidity. For instance, let us take your example of fermented grains. I do not believe that, as humans, we have essentially changed much. I think things like fermented drinks came about as the result of two guys standing around looking at it, with a conversation similar to what follows:
Spoiler:
"What's that smell?"
"The wheat pot."
"The wheat pot? What happened to it?"
"Filled with water. Ugg forgot to cover it."
"Idiot. Smells funny. What's that floating on the top?"
"Dunno. Dump it."
"What a waste...think we could use it for something? All that grain. Hate to throw it out."
"Just dump it. It's ruined.
"I dunno. Maybe we can dry the grains again."
"You want to use it? You try to use it."
"Fine. I will. Bet I could just take this stuff of the top. You know it doesn't smell that bad really."
"Hey, dare you to drink it."
"What!?"
"The water. Drink it."
"Ew no!"
"Come on, you're the one that wants to use it for something. Drink the water."
"No!"
"I'll give you 10 shells to drink it. Go on!"
"15!"
"Fine. Shake on it."
"Alright, here it goes...aw man! Aw, it feels funny in my mouth!. Like...bubbles."
"That must taste disgusting! I can't believe you drank that!"
"No, it's not bad. Tastes alright, just feels funny. Try it."
"No way!"
"Come on, keep your 15 shells and try it."
"Hey! Not bad. I kind of like the mouth feel. Strain the grains out and just keep the water."
"Yeah, what do we call it?"
"Well you tried it first. We'll call it Beer."
"Never had a drink named after myself."
"Hey guys, heard the news?"
"No."
"Ugg's dead."
"What? What happened?"
"I kind of bet him 10 shells to eat this thing we found in the forest."
"Oh?"
"Yeah. Don't eat the little red mushrooms you find growing on the ground. The red ones are definitely bad."

Too funny! I can absolutely believe this. :D But stupidity doesn't always have to be induced through bribery. Even in prehistoric days, I suspect that "Hey, watch this!" were very common last-words prior to death-by-idiocy. In fact, if the theory behind The Darwin Awards is true, it seems like stupidity would have been even more common back then...

Don't worry; feed squirpys!

Those angry words run through your head
Somebody bugs you on the Thread
Don't worry. Feed squirpys.

Don't worry. Feed squirpys.

It make you happy)
Don't worry. Feed squirpys.

Can't find a way to load that file
No newpix for a little while
But don't worry. Feed squirpys.

Cause when you worry
You might fall down
And that will crumble castle-town
So don't worry. Feed squirpys.

Don't worry. Feed squirpys.
Don't worry; feed squirpys!

There is this little song I wrote

If you start flaming you make it double
Don't worry. Feed squirpys.
Feed squirpys now!

Don't worry. Feed squirpys.
Don't worry; feed squirpys!
Don't worry. Feed squirpys.
Don't worry; feed squirpys!

(Don't worry, don't flame it, feed squirpys
Put a smile on your face
Don't light everybody up like this
Don't worry, it'll soon be a pastpost, way back in Time)
Don't worry; feed squirpys.

Cool! And you know, that's actually a Douglas Adams book I've never read. But I'm going to have to remedy that post-haste!!!

Rule110 wrote:Speaking of relaxing, I know Margaritaville has already been "done," and very well, by StratPlayer. But, some of these lines came together in my head a few days ago and have been bouncing around ever since. Also, it seems the perfect song to include both OTT and OTC perspectives, while carrying the laid-back attitude over from the original. So with apologies to StratPlayer and Jimmy Buffett, I present:

Madagascarville

Spoiler:
Buildin' sand castles
Free of all hassles
Nobody else here to use all these poles
Our castles might not last
As time seems to fly past
We doze and we swim without any goals

Tastin' the bay again in Madagascarville
Spitting out that last mouthful of salt
Some people claim that this slow comic is lame
But I know it's nobody's fault

Now we inquire
Why the sea's higher
Found a neat river, some trees and some vines
There's plenty of wildlife
But it's such a mild life
Nobody's here and we can't read the signs

Traipsin' all day again in Madagascarville
Just because there's no reason to halt
Some people claim this empty land is a shame
But I know it's nobody's fault

Must be a reason
I've been here all season
Sometimes it seems there's no more to be said
But each time I ketchup
My mind seems to fetch up
Another new theory to post in the thread

Pastin' my say again in Madagascarville
Adding to the One True Thread's gestalt
Some people claim it's all a nerd-sniping game
But I know it's my own damn fault.

ETA: Zounds, I'm the Vatican Milliner's Teenage Mutant Perfect Ninja Customer Turtle! Verily I say unto thee: cowabunga, in size 6-1/2, and thus infallibly declare Madagascarville to the the Official Song of the Newpage.

ETAA: Changed "catch up/hatch up" in the last stanza to "ketchup/fetch up," for verisimilitude, which is one of my favorite words. And a double-dactyl word too...

ETAAA: Changed "no one but us" to "nobody else" in the first stanza because it scans better and I'm being anal.

No need to apologize to me -- your version is awesome! :D :D :D I definitely enjoyed this! And rhyming 'fault' with 'gestalt' was brilliant! *applause*

...and volume 5 of the pile is complete -- 16 NP's to go...
Former Forever member of the OTT, now moved on to other things sucked back in by the wowterful wonder of the thread...

Walking east along the sea, in the morning (can we determine what frames were morning?)

If they were walking east along the sea shore for days, then they would have to be on the north or south end of the landmass they're on (or on a really large bay on the west coast). That should help narrow the search parameters a bit for those scouring google maps.

It would have to be the south--they were walking to the right and going east.

That does seem more likely, but I was trying not to rule out any awkward or deceptive camera angle changes (like flipping to a S facing view as they started walking).

They came across the river while moving to the right. the shots of them from behind were from behind going up the river. GLR would have ahd to break the 180° rule multiple times to make it work in any way from the North. Given that, the most likely answer(because it would require a lot fewer assumptions) is that they are on the north edge of the sea, or the south edge of their section of landmass.
