2-Player Mafia Tournament - GAME OVER: cjquines wins!

Postby Adam H » Wed May 29, 2013 2:32 pm UTC

2-Player Mafia Tournament

Adam’s Standard RulesTM:
Spoiler:
  1. You cannot post in this thread unless you are included in the player list.
  2. You cannot talk about this game outside of this thread, unless in an appropriately titled spoiler in the discussion thread.
  3. You cannot edit your posts.
  4. You cannot quote private messages from the mod.
  5. You cannot lurk.
  6. You cannot ruin the game for other players.
  7. If you break any of these rules, you will lose, be removed from the game, and shame will be heaped on you.

Game Specific Rules:
Spoiler:
Overview
  1. Before every round the mods will post the matchups for the round. If you are participating in the round, you will have about 24 hours to submit your alignment. If you miss this deadline an alignment will be randomly chosen for you.
  2. The round will start at an unexpected time of day.
  3. Once a player posts “Kill: Opponent” in the thread, the round is over for that matchup. Players cannot kill themselves.
  4. Once both players in a matchup have posted “No Kill” in the thread, the round is over for that matchup.
  5. Rounds will last a maximum of 48 hours (excluding weekends). If the matchup has not ended by then, there will have been no kill.

The Alignments:
  1. There are 3 alignments: Town, Mafia, and Jester.
  2. Townies win if they kill Mafia, or if there is no Mafia and they survive to the end of the round without killing a Jester.
  3. Mafias win if they survive to the end of the round without killing a Mafia or a Jester. They do not need to kill Town to win.
  4. Jesters win if they are killed by town or mafia, or if they kill a jester.
  5. There are three possible outcomes for each player per round: Kill (the player posts “Kill: Opponent” in thread first), No Kill (both players post “No Kill” or the deadline passes with no kill), and Killed (the opponent posts “Kill: PlayerX” in thread first). The win conditions for every possible scenario and outcome are posted below.

Code: Select all

PlayerX   Opponent   PlayerX wins if:  Points for PlayerX if Win
Town      Town       kill or no kill   18
Town      Mafia      kill              19
Town      Jester     no kill           23
Mafia     Town       kill or no kill   25
Mafia     Mafia      no kill           21
Mafia     Jester     no kill           24
Jester    Town       killed            20
Jester    Mafia      killed            20
Jester    Jester     killed            20

Posting Rules
  1. Players can talk publicly in the thread at all times in the game (including the pre-round stage) until the game enters the championship rounds. Once the game enters the championship rounds, only the two players involved can post. In pool play, you can try to aid or inhibit players in other matchups.
  2. If a round ends before the deadline, you are encouraged to claim your role as a courtesy to your opponent.
  3. You can absolutely talk about your meta-strategy and your plan for future rounds.
  4. Players cannot private message anyone except the mods at any time.
  5. Players cannot post spoilers that only certain players can read. If one player in the game can read something, everyone can.
  6. Just like a normal game, spoilers in the discussion thread are off limits, even if they appear to concern a matchup you are not involved in. Players are encouraged to post their meta-strategy in the discussion thread.

Confirm in thread and PM me your alignment (if you want to pick). I will not say whether you picked your alignment or if it was randomized (you are free to tell the truth or lie about it).

Mine was randomly selected, so no bias.

There's no lynching. Only killing.

Hmmm, well you see, here's the thing:

I'm town, so the question is:

Are you bluffing or do you think I'm double bluffing? Or is there something more nefarious going on? Nothing for it but to pick:

Kill: Timm01994

I know that there's no lynching. I just get lynched a lot in other games.

Postby Adam H » Fri May 31, 2013 7:24 pm UTC

That's deadline. The results:

t1mm (mafia) vs thdl (town): thdl kills t1mm, thdl wins.
USN (town) vs cjquines (jester): no kill, USN wins.

Round 1.1 will begin sometime between 0:00-23:59 on Monday.

ArDeeJ and Suzaku are both co-modding with me. Any of us can post the start of the round. No need to send them your alignment, just me.

Edit: Round 1.1 matchups are the same as Round 0:
thdl vs. tim
USN vs. cjquines

I hope you haven't picked yet - I'll go for a mixed strategy 50% mafia no kill 50% jester no kill. Anything I say in this game may or may not be truthful.

Interesting, very interesting. Doesn't change my choice (I hadn't submitted yet, but I had chosen).

Anything I say in this game may or may not be truthful.

But of course

That was to point back to someone (can't recall who) who went hard and pretty much called in real life trustability on a claim, which ended up being a lie. I disliked that person for a while. I want to be able to falseclaim whatever I want, so I like to add a lil' disclaimer :)

Hmmmm, I need to change the rules. Sorry! :P

The Jester vs. Jester win condition is now getting killed (rather than killing) and is worth 20 points. I didn't think that one through very well. Or rather, I overthought it.

Well, if i take you at your word, then mafia-> no kill is the optimal start for me, but it is likely that your claims are in no way correlated with fact. This presents an issue with an obvious solution. What do you think that solution is?

I think you picked town either way, and you're on the verge of killing me.
At least I can say I would not play a strategy other than town instakill, town no kill, mafia no kill, or jester no kill.

So i had a big long post where i said superficially insightful but ultimately meaningless things. Mostly about double bluffing and implications and such. I think there was some group theory as well. The bard may have made am allusive appearance. Internet at the hotel is terrible though, and i don't trust my phone, so I'll save those points for later.

Long story short, i think you're a jester.
