It's true, I eloped with my cake. But like many such marriages, it was brief. I moved on, and we divorced around my 1100-post mark.

Congrats, Eternal Density! More cake:

Megan might be harder to find, and finding a pic with both of them together would definitely require a Waiter to do the work, I think. I mean, there's this, but that hardly inspires Cuegan/Megball. My Google-Fu is not coming up with anything else even remotely close.

Very Fabulously Cute!

I still check in here everyday though but only tend to read the most recent page on the forum unless something especially exciting has happened in the OTC or there's something I don't get, because I rely on you guys to explain things to me and share my excitement, even if you don't know I'm there ;) Without the OTT I don't think the OTC would mean half as much to me. Keep it up guys!

I really think you have it right. I used to read the last few pages only when I started, and now I read everything, and I think the first way was more reasonable and enjoyable. If I can conquer my OCDish tendencies I'll go back to doing that. Maybe if we wanted to make this thread more inviting, we should make it clear that skipping is fine.

I don't think I'm the only one who feels slightly oppressed by the perceived duty of reading it all - most of our arguments are over speed-bumps: you get up in the morning, there are x pages to read, you start making progress, and then blam! there's a huge blitzpost, or a page of encoded messages, or a pile of creative writing of some sort. If you think that particular kind of speed bump is fun, you take the time and enjoy it, but if you don't think it's fun, you read it anyway and then suggest that it should be abolished, and then someone else suggests that you're being a bully for saying what should or shouldn't be posted.

Now, maybe I'm a meta-bully for suggesting that we should all feel less compelled to read everything rather than posting about what we should stop posting about, but well, oops.

In other news: Congrats on your 1000th ED! and on your 500th Kieryn! May I suggest pouring some of this on your cake? (just a sprinkle - oddly it seems stronger on the cake than in the glass.)

Here's a quick cut at what I'd put in intro to time. Opinions welcomed, coveted even. Especially, but not exclusively, from the newer members. As suggested, I wouldn't try to put links in, and I did deliberately leave out the terminology, but what does everyone else think?

How to Time.
There are many ways to properly enjoy Time. The best way is the one that suits you best. This can change. Do not feel you must enjoy Time the way anyone else does if that way does not suit you. Do not feel you must continue enjoying it the same way if it stops suiting you. Some options include:
1. Reading it all from beginning to end.
2. Jumping in where you find it, and continuing.
3. Skimming and skipping as you see fit.
4. Reading the latest page or so each time you come.
5. Ignoring the thread completely and using one of the tools to keep track of the comic.
6. Some combination of the above, or some other way not listed.

Posting as you go, or in large chunks can be done as you see fit. The forum does officially discourage double-posting, but in the thread we pretty much don't care, except that if you post the new picture it should be done in a new post.
I think our only other hard and fast rule is that overly flashy things need to be spoilered, as they can be dangerous.

We're a friendly bunch. We've made up some weird terms, we've got some weird traditions. Don't worry if you can't figure them out. Neither can we. Play along if you want, don't if you don't want. Ask if you want to know something. (Doesn't even have to be time related, we've got lots of other answers here too.)

Great idea. For it to be effective, though, it'd need to be somewhere prominent. Like the top of the wiki, and in a bunch of people's sigs, perhaps. Either way, I think it embodies the casual-but-pretending-to-be-serious mindset we have here.

Thanks, xuys! Image I doodled it up in the past half-newpix. As for my digital artness, it comes from a few years' experience in a small fanart community, and is more of a hobby than anything (I don't even have a deviantArt gallery). But it's good for little things like this. And that's also how I gained my image manip and other Photoshop skills, which have certainly come in useful on the OTT!

You should get some kind of clock or timer.

Yeah...like a device or meter to predict when a newpix is going to occur.

Holy crap guys, that's a great idea!

Hang on a minute centinewpix...

Cueball: Hey, I know falling off of cliffs. Remember the snake?

Talking of the snake, did we determine what kind of slithermolpy it was? Cueball's description was a little weird. (It was probably discussed in the bit that I skipped read so fast that I didn't remember)

Indeed. Here's where I note that I've never done any Wiki editing, so I'm not sure I'd know how to do it, nor where the best place is.
My first thought is to put it right in the "Welcome to the xkcd Time Wiki" article. (Partly because that I can figure out how to do.)
I definitely do not want to imply that what I said is the One True Truth or anything like it. I just wanted to put something down to get us started.

At some point you'll figure out what I ripped off for my dialogue and you'll become profoundly sad. Love means never having to say you're sorry you know.

@SBN, re Time synopsis: Well written. The only change I'd suggest is that we not go out of our way to encourage double posts, except for the ONG. People coming here already (should) know about the double post rule... that we don't get in snit should be reserved for when we actually don't get in a snit. Since we do (with good reason) double post for the ONG, that merits a note, but I wouldn't go beyond it for newbies.

@ChronosDragon, re: the same wrote:Either way, I think it embodies the casual-but-pretending-to-be-serious mindset we have here.
That is probably the most important thing. We pretend to be serious, but aren't, and that's the fun of it. It only works if we all realise that it's not important. (This is the basis of our Comfy Chair and Chocolate Dungeon.)
