Am I correct in assuming that one builds sandcastles and then sheds/little houses/fortresses on their properties in monomolpy, instead of houses then hotels? It is of course perfectly natural to build a castle on top of Cuegan's Castle, as Cueball himself showed.

This isn't the third act. It's the beginning of the second act. They still have to make it to the top of the mountain while the entire Atlantic Ocean nips their heels. That will be a heroic adventure. But good prediction on La Petite showing up.

Here's one thing that's been bugging me for a long time. "The sea can do what it wants - it's the sea." What is it that the sea had been doing in the past that makes it seem to have such arbitrary and capricious powers? Seems to me it's always been calm, steady and relatively safe, though not very tasty.

sure did - loved it. Things moving too fast in the OTT though and I'm hanging on to the outside of the Firefly as it's screaming around the moon!

Dammit, the raindrop! http://what-if.xkcd.com/12/
HOW LONG has he been working on this???

I LOL'd.

OK, folks, what is the New Plan? I can think of:

A) Float up Their River. At some point (maybe around the People in the Hills on edfel's map), get off and run, aiming to reconnect with the track Cuegan took on their rush back down. This seems slow, and insufficiently unprecedented. (And everyone kept telling me that going upriver was the wrong direction, which I *still* don't understand. The idea seemed to be that it would force them to backtrack later, but upriver is uphill/north and they want to go uphill/north, so wha?)

B) Head back east along the shore, dragging the boat with them so they can use it to cross the rivers / sea channels. This seems incredibly slow, and wouldn't reconnect them with the 20 who are still up scavenging Hill People leftovers. Wheels would help, but not enough really (especially over sand), and who has time to start mounting wheels at a time like this?

C) Float the boat all the way to the castle? But as has already been discussed, they'd almost certainly lose contact with land at some point and wind up drifting in the newly reconstituted Mediterranean, with no food or means of propulsion.

Megan sure seems confident, though...

ETA: D) Sail through the fourth wall?

No, Megan explicitly said there was "four tens" or "five eights" of them when Rosetta didn't understand "Forty".

That reminded me of something. Back on NP 541, at np M1121 (just before "Maybe it is big enough to fill the sea") there was a conversation about cakes that included many references to "four tens". That's more than 10 wips before Megan used "four tens" to explain forty to Rosetta in M2891. Another piece of evidence that the OTT influences the OTC?

As much as I'd love a LaPetite Image piece, or a Megball Image piece... it makes more sense to keep it objects like the original, huh? In which case I don't think a Beanie would fit. Unless, of course, you're referring to their actual head-wear and not the Beanie person. :P

Bucket, Lucky, Castle = all awesome choices.

I also like the idea of throwing other molpies in the mix, like perhaps a beesnake.

Some suggestions:
A miniature grapevine
A flag

ETA: super ninja'd on the flag... but mini-grapevine is still a go!

OK, an actual prediction: Megan has somehow figured out a way they can keep the platform / castle / boat with them the whole way. She won't have to say bye to it again, and she'll get to show it to Rosetta before Time ends.

Of course! Now I want a dilgunnerang emoticon since we seem to have one for everything else.

Haaaa, and right when yappo was unveiling a beanie smiley! (Or had I missed that one before?) Image

Right. I was thinking the same. Though, could we have a Beanie and a Beret? Or would that be too confusing as pieces.

A dilgunnerang, of course!

Yes!

ETA: I also like the idea of a Squirpy. Perhaps the Squirpy instead of the Hedgemolpy? Or do we already need to work on a 2nd edition with other playing pieces?

Oh, yeah, it's because I didn't embed the image, just attached it since it's kinda seaish. You'll have to go back to the original post to see it.

ETA: I think the squirpy rather than pricklymolp, because prickly already gets a mention on the board whereas squirpy doesn't ;)

Are the 20 already on the raft with Image, or standing just outside it still?

eta: Oh hey, Cueball picked up the maps last newpic.

The Twenty is an estimate, but all the others are exact. But since we've been using "The Forty" without qualms, and twenty is also a nice round number, I see no objection to calling the approximate half of their tribe currently in the hills "The Twenty".

But what if Cueganites use Octal? Or worse, what if, like the ancient Egyptians or Mesopotamians or someone, used Base 60? Makes a huge difference in the number of kinfolk to round up.

ETA - I'm going to coma now; if the blackout was the End of Time I'm gonna have a really lousy breakfast coming up :(
Also to say -- isn't 'wolpy' from "woof" , rather than "wolf-like pet" ?

Have they actually pointed out the number of people in their party right now (8), or 6 - Cuegan?
Not too worried, like we were saying a while ago, its likely that this is made to be a representation, not the actual thing, so that we can read it.

When Rosetta asked Cugan how much is 40, the answer was first 4 time 10 and only then they said 5 times 8.
So they probably use base 10, which is good. They need their thumbs for the rope.

So... when are they going to take all the heavy sand off the raft?
It's about time.

This should work...
The banks will be, by definition, higher than the water at the floodwater's edge. Sleep in shifts, long poles for guidance, when you get to rapids, just
Spoiler:
wait for it.

When you get to the Hill People's Hills, send out a runner to collect the rest of the Forty. If the Forty are too heavy for the boat, half walk, half ride, alternating.

(edit) just cleaning up text

Note To Blitzers:It is advisable NOT to go past page 1130 until you've seen up to frame 2900 (Geekwagon Numbering). A lot is happening, and really, you do not want to skip ahead at that point.
