The Bench

Image

To all Timewaiters, and especially blitzers:

The sorrow of the End of Time is now many newpages back, and the present may still be many newpages ahead. You are a lonely wanderer traveling the great thread of Time, for though many are also making this great trek, some are far ahead, and some far behind, and even when one chances to pass near you, you cannot see them.

You have seen many things, both sad and wonderful, in your Quest: In the One True Comic you have seen trees and rivers, flooding seas, molpies, castles, and people; and in the One True Thread there have been many stories and poems, many ONGs and songs, and many Timewaiters cheering you on.

For now, take a seat on this bench and rest your weary limbs. Contemplate Time, and how time moves on: people come and go, and in time even the hills change, and seas flee and return.

I will someday reach this bench in my own trek, and I look forward to stopping to rest my own limbs. I wonder: who will be the last person to see this bench? Because time moves on, one day all of us Timewaiters will be gone. Will our children and their children remember Time? When eleven thousand years have passed, will there still be some of our yet unborn descendants who will know the story of Time? Will there, perhaps, be a few who follow the path of the blitzers of old and set out on a quest to read the whole Thread, preserved by our descendants on a website in a far-future version of the Internet that we could not imagine, or in a thick volume collecting dust in the back of an attic? Will there be some who, in their weary travels, come upon this bench, and stop for a while to rest, even as you are doing now?

I don't know. But I do know this: you could spend a thousand lifetimes staring at water and sand, thinking as hard as you could, and you'd never guess the world had things like Time in it.

So sit, and enjoy the day.

If it's the magic eye, it's one of those things where a pattern seems to repeat, and you cross your eyes over the repeat to see a 3D image. It even works when the "dots" are ASCII characters.

The last document is highly dangerous.

Hmmm. I see that, but I think forums and fora are redirected to the same place. Is there a difference you know of? What is it that makes the last document dangerous? It looks like it goes to where it is supposed to.

My quest continues - I am at page 300 out of 1373 ... 1373?? Really??? The future recedes as I walk towards it!

I am glad I missed being here for the Madness. I can see that there was a lot of fun to be had, but the sheer frustration of the changes would have driven me away from this needle-pulled thing ... I almost skipped those pages of the ketchup but managed to keep going by reducing the number of pages I read before having a break (semi-coma?).

On an administrative note, I protoactively (the opposite of retroactively?) grant my request to be a Knight Temporal.

Ever onward ...

Ok everyone I have a sacred task for you to perform.

in about 1/4 newpix time there will be a new image showing up at the below link:

http://xkcd.mscha.org/otcstories/

When this new image shows up on the newpix you can check it and post it into the OTT with an apropriate ONG word.

Then you will have to wait for it as every 4 hours after that there will be another one to post.

I've never made a conscious choice between forums and fora. Mostly I follow the links that the phpbb software generates when I post, quote, and copy link locations. Perhaps somewhere the phpbb has been set to choose differently?

I'll keep my eye open. If anybody notices or discovers something, post it. Enquiring minds want to know!

Some ketching up on replies I want to make...

BlitzGirl, great cartoon (too bad it is so very context-specific) and beautiful poem! Clearly you have been blitzedblessed with many talents.

As for the cartoon with the squirpies, there seems nowhere on the Time wiki for it to go. A general, non-specific page for original art created on the OTT is needed.

rvloon, yappobiscuits, beautiful song ottifications from the both of you, too!

All the ottercomics, manips and treeish other stuff, I've enjoyed it all even if I don't mention it specifically.

Thanks also for all the compliments on my own song ottifications La Petite v2.0 and Ignorance. At the risk of appearing overeager for approval: TheMinim, have you noticed I did a Tim Minchin ottification with the second one?

Also, I'll be traveling for the next two weeks and this will affect my presence on the OTT, though I can't tell yet how much. At any rate, I'm not intending to go away, I'll be back!
Apart from Forum Games, mostly active on the One True Thread.
If you need help understanding what's going on there, the xkcd Time Wiki may be useful.

Addams thanks all of us who helped. Her life is much better now.

ugh That seems on par with guzzing semencoffeebaconcancerbabies to me.

I dunno, it just seemed to fit the comic well enough.
As for number 4, it can climb a wall because it's IV.

Earthling on Mars wrote:To all Timewaiters, and especially blitzers:

Spoiler:

This was an absolutely lovely post, Earthling. Thank you for placing it here & I hope it rests at the top of the NP forever. I had a relaxing little sit... ;)

Oh, I'm a tenor? Cool, I never actually knew my voice type :P. Thanks!

They're not all that piratey... that song is a little I s'pose... and some of their orchestral bits are kinda reminiscent of Pirates of the Caribbean... but yeah, mostly just epic symphonic metal with the odd softer ballad ;)

Alrighty, here's a present present I've been working on for some time - I've turned BlitzGirl's poem "Rest With Me Here" into a song. Image

I guess other than my recent ottification "The Timewaiter", this must be my first non-humorous recorded OTT song, which was a nice thing to do, getting a chance to do something more soulful, as well as getting a chance to actually write some original music rather than filking something. I went for a soft folk ballad style, kinda Mumford and Sons-ish, with voice, acoustic guitar, piano and accordion. Hope y'all enjoys it :)

On the other hand most of the shows I've blitzed lately were either completed or cancelled (:() which sometimes is better and sometimes is worse than having to wait for it.
(On that note I need to blitz the first season of Arrow some time for the sole reason that Summer Glau is joining the cast. Which hopefully doesn't spell doom.)

I think I like where this is going more than the post about Lucky a couple spots up.

I think lucky is dreaming and that is one of his nightmares!

And thanks for posting the ONG! :D

Oh. I guess I read that wrong. I didn't expect the image I linked to to change. When I linked to it, there was no dream bubble, and I didn't realize it was related to the frame I referred to above it. I thought it was coincidental. Now that it has changed, I understand your nightmare comment better! =)

Was that frame with no bubble a mustard frame? Should I fix my post so that it shows the original art? That's how ONGs work, right?

Are we are getting a Lucky story revealed every 4 nopix = 1 luckpix or is something else going on? That's how I read it because the image was numbered 0001 and in a directory with 14 pricklies and 9 POTMs.

Yeah I just was sneaky and updated the original frame :D

will be a new frame every quadpix hopefully. Well until they run out anyway. Hopefully some more can be drawn by then.
