I just discovered the comic and I really like it.

That's pretty much it.

Good evening. This is Post Number One as mandated by Ye Olde Rules Thread.

I've been a somewhat lurker on the forums and longtime reader / fan of XKCD, so I finally decided why not register.

I could technically be considered a freelance computer game developer and programmer. At least, that's what I say when I get introduced to people, so that'll work!

I live in the Bay Area. At the moment. Though who knows what the future may hold for a young man of a wandering bent and nothing holding him to an area? And suchlike.

My name comes from my in-game name in Guild Wars, where I was Embryo Pvpstyle (or other -Style). My tagline was "May the better grammarian win".

I hope to come to know all of you and become enlightened and amused.

Hello!

I'm a female US citizen of a certain age. Discovered XKCD through another webcomic which I discovered through a newsletter. I don't understand the geekier bits, but I get the stuff that's common to all humanity. I'm more the literary type. I have friends who know math (or maths) and computer programming and all. We get along just fine. I've been lurking in the forums for a while, but I just might start posting more or less regularly.

See ya!
Everything is perfect; it just needs a little improvement.

Er. Live in Canada. Am in twenties. Became interested in replying to a post and forgot to post here first.

I find smalltalk tiresome/troublesome and have an obstacle of the will when it comes to initiating conversation, but I nevertheless can type up a storm and am fond of intelligent discussion. Hence, why I registered here. I'll probably spend most of the time lurking though, as I am rather taciturn. Undoubtedly, though, this account will be handy for those rare occasions when both my interest is piqued and I feel like chattering.
In serious discussion, I usually strive to post with clarity, thoroughness, and precision so that others will not misunderstand; I strive for dispassion and an open mind, the better to avoid error.

Hello, all! Just for you special people, a comprehensive analysis of me:

My name is Maddy and I live it up in Colorado. I love politics, but more than that I love fashion in politics. I habituate easily. I can't stay in a bad mood. I love shopping for new shoes while wearing new shoes. I have many alter-egos which include, but are not limited to, snobby intellectual student, hippie, club rat, computer geek, chic city girl, sports fan, athlete, mountain woman, and power shopper.

I am currently studying to get a degree in political science. Upon graduation, I plan on attending law school with the intent of becoming a corporate attorney.
I want to join the Peace Corps, I want to climb as many mountains as I can, I want to help as many people as I can, and I want to own enough shoes to fill something large.
I have done a lot of great things that look great on a resume. When I played YMCA soccer in kindergarten, I kicked the ball all the way across the gymnasium. When I was in 7th grade, I was on the Geography Bee team.
When I was in high school I could have won the award for being the president of the most clubs. I have amassed a respectable shoe collection.
I have campaigned against world hunger, genocide, violations of human rights, and the lack of dessert at important events.
I know how to roof houses, build adobe homes, balance a jug of water on my head, build a computer, coordinate colors, and survive in the wilderness.
I have two great dogs, a license to fly, zero cavities, and chapped lips.

That is more than you wanted to know, but there you go.

I'm too paranoid to give a lot of details.

My avatar is from a Wondermark strip. I think there's probably a lot of overlap between xkcd and wondermark, so a lot of you probably know that.

I'm seventeen, and interested in boxen, internets, language, and other mostly academic junk like that.

Hello good people.

My name's Nina and I'm at the tender age of 18. I came across this site by accident and ended up in fits of laughter at 6th form...

I live in the green and pleasant land of England, and I love music. AFI, Tegan & Sara, My Chemical Romance... yeah. I also write fanfiction... um, a lot. Mostly on AFIslash, as _endlessly. Please don't go on that site unless you are sure you can handle some very explicit content, kay? I love manga/anime too :)

EDIT: I am a Photoshop addict and general geek. A nerd, if you will.

That would be it.

I'm not scary, I promise. Hi :D

Hello,
my name is Ilkka, and I'm a programmer who has almost completed his school (I studied interaction design in a polytechnic...sorry, in a "university of applied sciences"). You still should not think that I could give you answers to any (or "some", hopefully) questions about interaction desing or usability. My guess is that nobody probably has anything to ask from me, at least in relation to usability, which is not bad thing though.

I was actually a bit surprised that this nick was available, but it's nice to have it - I try to get it almost always when I am registering to web forums and other things on web requiring registration. Feels almost like home here - I have read the comic for a while and followed this forum for shorter time (How many can say that other way around? "Oh yeah, the forum is nice but that comic is really lame.") and according to that little bit of forum lurking I have done here it seems that people here are acting pretty nicely. People being pretty, nice or pretty nice is not that important, except possibly in some "post picture of yourself" -thread.

Two disclaimer-like things: 1) It is quite possible that the things I wrote in humoristic way have been written already by someone else on this thread (and quite possibly in a more clever way) - I did not read this thread through, because at least I know that there has not yet been my post-registration/pre-forum messaging message here yet. 2) I have had one about three months long English course (was it two or three hours every monday...) in the said polytechnic so my text may seem awkward. I hope that does not bother you.

Oh yeah, and I often end up writing a bit too long messages.

My name is Brandon and I'm 21. I live in Las Vegas, a city I love, but it's full of people I have nothing but contempt for. Irony is such a cruel slag.

I work as a Network Engineer/System Consultant for a small IT firm by day, and a local head shop by night.

I like to read, listen to music, and debate just about anything (philosophy and politics especially).

And I'm pretty much the coolest cat you're likely to come across, so there's that...

Oh, and I have a pretty big ego, which will explain the previous statement, and the many that are sure to follow.

...and *that's* how you introduce yourself. (a million points if anyone catches that reference)

This site is awesome by the way, and thus, worthy of my patronage.

Howdy,

I'm an accountant living and working in Central Texas. I play tabletop RPGs, have collected comicbooks for about 30 years, and am not very comfortable discussing myself.

I followed a link from John Roger's Kung Fu Monkey about a month ago and found the place really...interesting. The comic itself is great.

I may come back later and edit in more info if I think I fit in with the inmates in this particular asylum.

Edited for spelling and to add the tidbit that I have the annoying habit of not running my posts through a spell checker before sending them through.

Hey all,
I'm just a high school senior who stumbled across xkcd after seeing a link to it from Godwin's Law on Wikipedia and been a fan ever since. My screenname comes from spelling my real name backwards (Grady Low) and I spend most of my time aspiring to be a better geek. It's rather annoying when no one in my area understands the jokes whenever I try to bring xkcd up. They think "sudo" means some foreign delicacy, what malarky. Anywho, glad to finally have posted something, buh bye.

Hi folks, I'm Csaboka, a computer geek from Hungary, aged 22. I like rock music, programming, and some other stereotypically geeky things like the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy or Monty Python's Flying Circus. I also like reading science fiction books, I don't know how stereotypical that is. If you happen to visit TT-Forums, the Csaboka over there is also me.

I'm also a bad bad person, according to the rules, because I've replied to a topic before introducing myself here. Sorry about that. :(

I've found xkcd by following a link on some random other forum, I don't remember exactly anymore.

Well, I'm not sure what else to say - I'm not good at introducing myself, really. I hope I've proven I'm not a spambot, though.

Introduction

Postby Sir Blackberrybush » Fri Oct 19, 2007 2:18 pm UTC

Hi there,

been reading the comic for a good while now and have loved it most of the time. I am a language person (although a lousy one at it), but get some of the CS jokes, specially the Lisp and Scheme ones because I have tried to teach myself both.

I can read Russian but I can no longer understand it.

Hi there,

I'm 33, a physicist and live in Cambridge (England). I design and build big, shiny scientific instruments and on a regular basis I get to say "Science, it works, bitches" (mostly because it does, which is still amazing, and doesn't seem to get boring).

I've been reading the comics for ages (over a year, which is several lifetimes on t'internet isn't it?) but only recently fell upon the fora. On the off-chance that I may be tempted to crawl out from under my stone and contribute to a discussion, I thought I'd say "hello" first. "Hello".

Oh, and I'm a woman, which still seems to be a surprise to people who seem to expect all physicists to be men. Sigh.

I'm a Linux sysadmin/contributor by trade, helldesk by punishment. I've been reading xkcd...enh...for a while, don't recall exactly how long. (Also, I love writing things in parenthesis.)

Since someone will probably dig the humor of it, here's my precursor to comic #249: http://mintygreen.com/ponderingguy/. I still need to add the pictures from Disneyland.
