They are dead. They are all dead.

PS. Does any of the following OTTers have a squarish, transparent avatar? ChronosDragon, ergman, ggh, Jafloi, k.bookbinder, kenmelken, mrob27, ZoomanSP.

A dose of antimustard for your hotdog:

Code: Select all

### 2.05
- Memories Revisited was erroneously unlocking because I wasn't resetting badge counts on reload (or coma)
- Reduced DoN price drop
- Memories Revisited shouldn't be tagged as Action
- Prevent a NavCode crash: was possible to get negative NPBs
- Added a failure message to Camera
- Also prevent console error when checking if non existent Badge is earned
- Always recalc dig and repaint shop when refreshing a tool price, so I don't have to do it explicitly every single time I destroy tools
- Fiddled with JDip destruction amounts. Will be same as normal (equal to level) for levels up to a million

I thought Cueball would always return directly on the lush green plains after falling in a hole?

For decree: LaPetite will improve her raft building skills, with Megan's help and the information they found on some pages between the maps Megan took from the Beanies. They then set sail to explore the New Mediterranean Sea. Cueball joins them, to baldly go where no Cueganite has gone before.

My avatar is already both squarish and transparent. I also have no larger version (at least, not with the hat, and that part is instrumental in any OTT-related paraphernalia).

Also...chirping Randall...I just finished a session with the Stanley Parable (which is out now on steam for $11 - I recommend it more than any video game I have ever played. Anyone who plays video games needs to play this game.) - I say session, because I'm hesitant to say I've finished such a wonderful work of nonlinear art. It blew me away, and I played the original mod too - it subverts even the expectations of someone whose expectations have been subverted numerous times. Free time is no excuse for not playing, as each individual ending takes about 5-15 minutes to beat - do em one at a time, or all at once, there's a different experience doing it different ways, but the message remains. As far as digital masterpieces go, I think it ranks just under Time on my top 10 list of best digital artwork. Also, Kevin Brighting is the new Morgan Freeman, I think.

These Are the Days After Time

Postby AluisioASG » Fri Oct 18, 2013 4:18 am UTC

Sometimes I get to dream that
We were back to the old days ― long ago
When we were many, when we were two
Things were so simple ― weren't they?

Spoiler:

The wait was endless, but we waited anyway
We prayed for it to last till the end of the days
Sometimes I miss those days ― but then, who don't?
And even being here I feel ― so alone

Those were the days of our Time
The sandcastles then were so neat
Those days are all gone now but one thing is true
When I look at the Thread and we're still here

We can't go back to Time, we can't expect a sequel
(Or can we?)
Ooh, maybe one day we will all fade just like BlitzGirl
But I hope not
No use in sitting and waiting to disappear
'Cos we're still alive, we're still here, we have no fear
Sometimes I miss those days ― but then, who don't?
I wake every morning to see a glimpse of hope

'Cos these are the days after Time
We've gone and stood against the End
Those days are all gone now but some things remain
Like me, like us, like our wait

Those were the days of our Time, yeah
The end of all things looked so deep
Those days are all gone now but one thing's still true
When I look and I find we're still here
(We're still here)

Surprising indeed that I can revoke my sudo access so easily :P At least it wasn't too difficult to figure out how to restore it.
As for cd, it doesn't seem good security design... at first... but I guess that counts as 'executing' the directory, and it's still separate to executing anything inside the directory, so I guess it makes sense after all.

Hey OTTers. I'll be away this wipend as I'm molpying off to Yorkshire to play a gig with Iron SeaWolpy. Keep the thread flowing and the molpies molping while I'm gone!

I'm also a very tired molpy as I didn't get to coma last night as I was too busy preparing... mainly producing these to sell at the show:
Spoiler:

And I have to leave soon so can't coma at all :(

Still. Yes. Seawolping. See you molpies on Mondip.

Yes my postgresql database is actually called 'molpies'

Postby Eternal Density » Fri Oct 18, 2013 7:35 am UTC

I finally got the new Hotdog test server VM back to the point I had it the other dip. Took more work than I expected because I tried to be more clever about what user to run and what directory to place stuff in and found that permissions are trickier than it seems. But now I'm back to seeing the Django hello-world page served via nginx and gunicorn (that's good) so I can soon turn my focus on building the object model and actually get molpies in the molpy database.

But first I have dinner to be late to.
I really hope that the internet is fixed at home. I think I'll install a couple more things first just to be on the safe side...

"How To Cause The End of the OTT In 3 Simple Steps":
    1. We play a prank on Yappo by not making any newposts over the wipend.
    2. We forget to come back All life/the world/the universe ends via [insert cliche movie plot here].
    3. Randall begins Time 2U on Mondip.
    4. Even I don't know what this line is here for.

I don't expect to be on the OTT much until after my piano exam next Thursdip; so you're welcome to pelt me with something suitable (cupcakes preferred) if you see me on here when I should be practicing my keyboard-cat impersonation.

Chronogram from mrob27 (on auxiliary channel)

Postby mrob27 » Fri Oct 18, 2013 8:29 am UTC

Chronogram from mrob27 (on auxiliary channel)
Origin: Newpage 620 ; Destination: Newpage 1554

If you've looked at any of my pastposts lately, you may have noticed something a little odd in my signature. The TARDIS has gone a bit loopy. Perhaps it's being swayed by the loopists (while sentient, a TARDIS could perhaps be outwitted even by that); or maybe it was something to do with all those terrible sandpaper and wood puns (that made @BlitzGirl snap and begin punsawing).
An outside observer (who is not xemselves Time-travelling) might have seen something like thisα:

Image

I want to explain what was happening. I'll use diagrams in the style of xkcd 657. Here's what the outside observer sees:

Image
What we can see: a TARDIS apparates in one spot, mrob27
gets out and walks into a second TARDIS that appears just as the
first begins to disappear, then as the second TARDIS vanishes
the first re-appears, and so ad infinitum.

The simplest explanationγ, and probably what most of you thought was going on, is this:

Image
The TARDIS keeps jumping back and forth, on even-numbered jumps
it contains mrob27 and on odd-numbered jumps it does not.

But that's not what was happening. There was a malfunction in the TARDIS takeoff and landing control systems. Regardless of whether the brakes are engaged and without any destination programme, the TARDIS was repeatedly taking off and landing again in the same spot (with no time offset between inside and outside):

Image
The TARDIS repeatedly performs takeoff and landing sequence
without actually going anywhen/where.

Despite this m*stard it was still working normally when we actually set a destination, and I could go to any place and time I want -- it just refused to stop after we arrive.
This is a very tough thing to fix. The manuals are cryptic and the bits that I need to access are scattered across several thousand square Cueballs of equipment and engine rooms. I needed some help, but Timborme wasn't enough, and other TimeWaiters are great but I was feeling a bit like Étienneδ.
So I decided to take advantage of the situation by flying the TARDIS to a new position a little bit to the right, and then after many of its involuntary takeoff/landing cycles had taken place, I flew it back to its original position in space and time (from whe{re|n} I had moved to the right.) Then I began doing this:

Image
mrob27 decides to meet himself many times over, despite
   the embarrassment this usually causes.

What are a bunch of mrob27s good for? Well, lots of things: commanding massive armies of relativistic molpies; building a bridge to get across the Pretty Neat River; helping Cueball get a clue; overwhelming the opposition in the imminent Lego's argumentζ -- the possibilities are endless.
But in this case I had just two things in mind. I joined forces with myself to fix the TARDIS, and to OTTify: More mrob27s means more retrOTTifications!

My normal approach towards OTTifying has been like that flowchart I posted back on NP1512:
(Spoilered because it's big and you've seen it before)
Spoiler:
Image

But that hasn't been working for me lately, so I decided to go back to the tried-and-true @Eternal Density method:
(again, Spoilered because it's big and you've seen it before)
Spoiler:
Image

The key difference is that I usually start with a random idea and then have to find the Othercomic. ED's method selects a random Othercomic first. So I began with @azule's list of non-OTTified OtherComics and shuffled the list into a random order. The first one turned out to be #859. This has been alluded to every time someone forgets to close a paren, and another Timewaiter must clean up the mess. (The issue of unmatched extra close-parens remains unresolved.)) We also have the unresolved tension of LaPetite (regardless of whether or not she is actually BlitzGirl). So the natural OTTification of 859 seems to be:

CHEKHOV'S ((LA)PETITE GUN
   Image

The next one was #987, which seems to apply well to Cueball:

CUEBALL'S POTENTIAL
   Image

The third one that came up was #796, which I'll have to think about. Nothing springs to mind, but now in NP620 the OTC and OTT are still young. I'll probably revisit it after another 500 Newpages or so, when OTC and OTT have more to draw from.

Some of the TARDIS systems are still a bit wonky, including the primary chronotransponder; for this I had to use the alternate. Nopixbot is also a bit addled, and I have to go all the way to the other control room to access him. That'll take a few Newpages, in the meantime my sig's still going to be looping.
     Signing off for now,
     --mrob27

α @StormAngel, I am humbled by your patience with GIF editing! The door-opening-closing bits are particularly brilliant. Image I know you probably intended me to see this later, but it popped up in the Wiki changelogs, and I also scan for "mrob" in an ASCII version of the OTTβ. When I saw that you had spent 4 nopix making this, I couldn't resist!

β I'm not reading it all, just scanning for my name, so you can usually avoid me seeing something by not using my name. (Be creative!)

γ also the hypothesis preferred by Occam's razor, and also the one least likely to be relevant in the OTC.

δ On n'est jamais servi si bien que par soi-même.

ε weird (just how I like it!)

ζ It hasn't erupted yet but the first volley has been fired. I'm a LEGO geek myself and have been dragged through that m*stardch*rp a couple times before.

End Transmission

You never told me that you have a piano exam StormAngel!

So I probably won't be able to do SB stuff this weekend because of lack of much internet, but I have my virtual machine with the empty new hotdog setupt working on my laptop so I can work on design and framework development whenever I have time.

This is a post from the Time Foundation. Once you reach this post, please report to the Future Present that you've reached Beacon Alpha.

You can use this Station's services to rest and get ready for the rest of your journey. All our services are designed based on almost one thousand pages of experience.
Our Tracker allows you to check how far have you gone and how much of your travel is still to be done, as well as the distance to the next station. You can clean yourself up at a private lavatory, then rest peacefully on a double-sized bed. Dinner and breakfast include food from all cultures, and you can eat as much as you want to. We also provide exclusive nighttime services for carriers of friendly codes.

Additionally, we offer a free train service between all Stations.

Meanwhile, in the age of NP 1554....

:D Hi everybody! I know I just posted yesterdip, but not even 1 NP farther down the road I came across a beacon for all time travelers, courtesy of AluisioASG and the Time Foundation!T Hope everything is well in the future! I wish I had a past-present to give you, but I'm not very good at that kind of thing. I do have a couple of OTTities that are either finished or close to finishedf though so maybe I'll post them soon(ish). I also have a good one planned for when I hit the end of the comic that I feel fairly confident nobody's done yet, but we'll all just have to... ...yeah you guessed it.

T Thanks!! :D
f I honestly can't remember, I worked on them mips ago
Still blitzing away and will be for some time.
