Well, maybe not with our meaning... ;)

That's probably be true for permanent OTTers; the increased number of posts during the Fading and t** **d by lurkers might support my graph. Any database experts who can help here?

For decree: I heard Outsiders deliberately ask for mustard with their hotdog...

Recap

I stared at Megan, my jaw slightly ajar. A tense moment passed, each second becoming a Newpix in the length of time I experienced it. Finally, I was ready to reply.

"I doubt it," I said, cooler than I needed to. "I don't remember ever being here before,"

"Okay," Megan said, calmly. "I thought I recognised you, that's all. Shall we move on?"

We trekked for a while, in silence. But it was getting dark now, and there were no electric lights to light the way. Cueball and Megan started setting up camp. I tried to help, but I had only been camping once before, and the equipment had changed eleven thousand years after. Cueball and Megan seemed to see this, and both directed me to do simple tasks while they undertook the more difficult tasks with ease. I felt rather ashamed of my tent inabilities at that moment.

When it was set up, Cueball lit up a campfire, and we sat around it.

"So you come from another Time?" Megan asked.

"Yep," I replied. "Before I came here it was late in 2013,"

The pair looked at me blankly.

"11,000 years ago,"

"That is a long time ago," Cueball said. "We were talking about it, weren't we?"

"Yep," I said.

"Yes?" Megan asked.

"Yeah," Cueball said. "You were talking about this big place that you would go to daily and which gave you more knowledge, weren't you?"

"Yes," I said. I repeated everything I had said to Cueball on the subject to Megan.

My favorite (sort of) Outsider use of OTTish words is still the one from way back on NP66:

PhoenixRising wrote:Eh, let's stick to creating a civilization and overrunning what little might be left of the Outside. A religion seems a bit OTT.

EDIT: we also need to finish making xkcd entirely self-referential and self-aware. We're close but I don't think we're there quite yet...

(three guesses what is the OTTish word used here in an Outsider meaning, three more guesses what that meaning was supposed to be)
There are two films that I particularly like.
One of them is a science-fiction dramatic comedy involving a boy who accidentally travelled in time. Extremely popular when it originally came out in 1985, it retains a major cult following to this day.
The other one, of course, is Back to the Future.

Wow, what catsup! It's like the old days!

Ent-like* story TheMinim - I've really been enjoying it. And happy round numbers everyone who flew past the double zeros since my last post (the list is getting seaish and I don't want to leave people out!) (and I just noticed I was one of them at 1600).

Enjoyed your molpy hunt Eternal Density! It's actually strange to watch videos from people I know only through text, from the other side of the world, showing (to me) exotic locations that I've heard about in textbooks but never actually visited. It's kind of a neat reminder that the words on the screen are from real people, in real places.... but far away. Quite like a tree.

About javascript... [rant redacted]. Suffice it to say that it is too commonly abused, and I have it turned off (Yay NoScript!) by default. Lots of websites use javascript (or even worse, flash) for BASIC NAVIGATION! They don't even get the time of day from me. I am very wary of turning my computer over to google-anayltics, facebook, twitter, or the like, especially when I can't even view source to read the javascript (it's hosted on the server).

You can do treeish stuff with it, but it's too often abused, and made into a Zanclean Flood of mustard.

(That is, mustard for me, ketchup for them!)

Speaking of the Zanclean flood, do you think we'll see the Beanies sharing a log with Lucky?

Jose
* From Tolkien - similar to treeish (we need more OTTish words to pick from!)
Order of the Sillies, Honoris Causam - bestowed by charlie_grumbles on NP 859 * OTTscar winner: Wordsmith - bestowed by yappobiscuts and the OTT on NP 1832 * Ecclesiastical Calendar of the Order of the Holy Contradiction * Please help addams if you can. She needs all of us.

The latter. (The word "Outside" is pretty clearly used in the OTTish meaning there.)
And as I already told, it's from NP66 (of this very thread). You can find it there if you want :)
(The abbreviation "OTT" wasn't used in it "modern" meaning until NP314, apparently. It also doesn't show up in the *mrobdex for either location; no idea why.)

EDIT2:

"xcld" in the first text panel :-) I know people misspell things on purpose there (or else every1 playing is 4), but I wonder if that's the case here, or if Time is becoming known to Outsiders?

Neat manips, BG. I'm counting that as following my decree. Which, woah, that page filled up fast. I coma'd, then decoma'd, and it's done. I guess the weepend is not starting early this wip. :)

Minim, I love how your OTTherComic was the entrance point for your story. The melding of the media is mellifluous.

I always read that as "a bit odd". OTT being pronounced as odd is just what I do in my head sometimes.

Just wondering if someone here may know a clever way to find and replace "\xf0\x90\x90\x92" and such in a 107MB json encoded text-file.
I don't know what technique you're already using, but would a regular expression help in this situation?

Oh yeah, night....*mutters*

For one thing, badly or maliciously written script can screw up your computer. For another, many people still disable it by default. Also, since it is a second process alongside the actuall markup language, it does increase complexity, which introduces more opportunities for errors and unexpected interactions.

NoScript to the rescue! (it gives more precise controls then "no scripts at all" versus "all scripts are ok")
I can hotdog without problems, but Facebug scripts get blocked.
Thanks for getting that for me. :) Plus, the browser itself helps a bit with some issues too, such as stopping endless recursion (which can even be a server issue (no JS involved)). Plus plus, a lot of annoying markup can be done sans JS, such as unreadable font/background colors, where JS can come in to the rescue. Maybe I'm naive or Window-less, but what malicious thing can JS do to your computer, Dracomax?

BlitzGirl wrote:Oh well. I'm sure if we Wait for it, it will come.

Spoiler:
I think I heard "will come" more than once. I can't help thinking of that special come that some people know of. So here's the scenario: male and female are getting it on. Female knows of the male's obsession with Time and says "wait for it" because she is not quite there yet and wants to be cute. The male, though, being the pervert that he is, finds this to be a huge turn on and does not wait for it...and comes. lol.

Oddly enough, there are over 6000 google search results for VITSSAGEN JA, but only 10 for VITSSÅGEN JA.

molpy has 18700 results.

In short, we rock.

and here is the next part of The Last Five Newpix:
A Treeish Thing Would Happen/When You Post ONGs at Me

Based on
A Miracle Would Happen/When You Come Home to Me
From the Last Five Years
Spoiler:
HIM
Everyone tells you that the Newpix you get Caught up
Every other OTTer in the thread
Suddenly posts cake or sanctifies you
Well, that's not true
It only affects the kind of posters
You always wanted to chat with
But they could never see your signposts before
And now they're banging down your door
And seranding you with cake
At least that's what it feels like because you
Can
Not
Keep up with
Them
In fact, you can't even keep current with the thread
Close your eyes, close your eyes, close your eyes
Except you're sitting there
Eating your corned beef sandwich
And all of a sudden, this pair of Molpies walk by
And you try to post the newpix
And you're like "That's not fair!"

And in a perfect ONG
A Treeish Thing would happen
And every other poster would get ninjad
And My ONG’d be great,
And nothing else would matter
But it's fine, it's fine, it's fine
I mean, I'm happy
And I'm fine, I'm fine, I'm fine
It's not a problem
It's just a challenge
It's a challenge to be fast
and post first

And I have to say that
What exacerbates the problem
Is I'm in conversation
I'm writing scripts and stories
I'm the grand fromage
And here it comes:
Not quite at the top of the Timeframe.
and there’s newpixbot with an Ong I never heard
And I'm hitting it with F5
I'm Frantically hitting F5
And then WHOOMP! There's a ninja!
'Cause they know
(They always know)
And there's that really awkward moment
Where I try to show I wasn't all that bothered
(Though of course I sort of was)
And I don't want to look like it was all that big a deal
Which is dumb - I shouldn't care I got ninja’d
Since It got posted anyway!

And in a perfect ONG
A Treeish Thing would happen
And every poster would coma a while
And it'd be me and newpixbot
And noone else would matter
But it's fine, it's fine, it's fine
You know I love OTT
And it's fine, it's fine, it's fine
It's what I wanted
And I'm fine, I'm fine, I'm fine!
It's not a problem
It's just a challenge
It's a challenge to be fast
and post first

HER
When you post ONGs at me
I'll wear a sweeter smile
And hope that, for a while, We'll stay
When you post ONGs at me
We’ll analyze and trace
And darken any trace of gray
Soon, the Molpies rise anew
Even greater than trees and maps
Just wearing hats
And once again, I'll be
So proud to pixel watch
When you finally post an ONG
for me

HIM
I'll be there soon, OTT
I'll finish up this Filk and Post redundant
I swear I'll post it soon , OTTers
Don't give up on me yet
I am so proud of us, no Flames!
We're posting like we never got to do before
And I will be there, ripe and crawling
If ch*rpin' Outside work stops calling
Don't lose faith
Don't get down
Don't despair
I'll be there

And in a perfect ONG
A Treeish Thing would happen
And that dip would finally be here
And it'd be me and you
Riding it together
And the things we post
Goin' Treeish strong
We're gonna make it through
And nothing else will matter
We'll be fine, we're fine
We're fine, we're fine, we're fine
I'll post more soon, OTT...
I swear I will

and
Posting Uphill

based on
Climbing Uphill From the Last Five Years
Spoiler:
HER
When you post ONGs at me
I'll make a frame analysis
And hope that, pixel molpies...
Okay, thank you
Thank you so much

I'm posting uphill, Randall
posting uphill

Molpy up every mornip at six
And blitz the line
With two hundred OTTers
Who are younger and smarter than me
Who have already ninja’d three ONGs

I'm waiting five newpix online
And watching the pixels
Just fading and changing
Lucky just struck at Cuegan.
Till my post is finally quoted

When I post in the OTT
There's a picture of cats
Always cats - usually spoiled
Who've been redundant for hours
And helping make links
for two hundred quotes
roughly the size of a barge!

I am a good OTTer
I'm an smart OTTer
I am a talented OTTer
Grant me Grace!

When you post ONGs...
I should have told them I was sick last wip
They're gonna think this is the speed that I post
How’d those filks get put on Youtube?
Should I sing Filks there?
I'll sing filks there
Maybe I should blitz and start over
I'm gonna blitz and start over
Why is the inquisitor pulling out scotch?
Why are people staring at my website
Don't stare at my website
I can hardly write a website
post at me
Stop looking at that, look at mine
No, not at my sig
Don't look at my sig
I hate that ch*rpng sig
Why did I pick that sig?
Why did I pick this ONG?
Why did I post that cake here?
Why does this manip hate me?
If I don't get a quoteblock
I can go to Amazon or Ikea and buy a desk
Not that I want to go to Ikea
But I really need a place to work
Since I'm obviously such a horrible, annoying artist and poster as is
What's it gonna be like if TIME ends?
And once again...
Why am I working so hard?
These are the people who named a character La Petite
Jesus Christ, I suck, I suck, I suck, I suck
When fin'lly you post ONGs at...
Okay, thank you
Thank you so much

I will not be the girl lost in the list three pages back
With the lolcat, the quote, and a serious lack
I will not be the girl that everyone boos
Posting desperate pictures and missing the clues
I will not be the girl with a postcount of twenty
making three or four jokes, and thinking that’s plenty
I will not be the girl who requires an ONG to get by
And I...

also, the ¶ symbol is actually called a pilcrow. almost as memorable as aglet.

This is called rubrication, as it is a way to visually distinguish a separate thought. they were originally red, but then admins claimed the color...24

Just wondering if someone here may know a clever way to find and replace "\xf0\x90\x90\x92" and such in a 107MB json encoded text-file.
I don't know what technique you're already using, but would a regular expression help in this situation?

That wouldn't be the problem. The problem is that I do not know what to search for... but nevermind, I seem to have found the first two culprits: It's mscha and Opiboble with reverse bongs. I may be able to manually edit those occurances after all...

Comics are ready to be OTTified for the weepend (should it ever come (as you can't have a weepend without some weeping (and you can't have that if we're so active and joyous))). To start it off, here's this one:

Ah, the weepend. Not only that, the weepend prior to yurttide, where I'm sure I won't be the only OTTer travelling.

I'll probably stay ketched up, but won't be sat at my computer working all dip like usual.

Hold down the fort. Molpy down.

Sadly the days of self knighting are over.
Luckily you only have to display time travel to convince me that you are worthy.
So I place upon you a Quest, to prove that you are able to travel through time.

How do I do that

Drive carefully. I think you've got weather that doesn't typically belong there. So do I, but mine is warmer than usual. (And not as much as some places, where they might even have tornadoes, normally a summertime event.)
I'm done traveling, but probably should venture out to the crowds at some point. And my husband still has to make the four-state trek tomorrow.
