Quite right. But should passing intervals be measured in plots (or plotlets)? soon we'll be discussing dekaplots and kiloplots.
Some terminology which never caught on!

It looks like it will hit close to Cueball.
Even back then, science and predictions were common.

Backshadowing. Everything tin be black. Keeps the options open; more fun.

Some bodily fluids tin’t be black... Some be quite clear...

Well, they tin sometimes be black, but that be usually a sign you need to see a doctor.

I stand corrected, maybe that is where they went off scene after the swim.

I seem to have missed a lot. Why has the thread title changed? And why isn't the Time wiki being updated?

And what are these small sequences of programmed instructions all about?
Some more lost terminology, and even with only 146 pages it was considered that there was a lot to miss and NP were used to measure and the wiki was a concern also.

Also, I be glad to see I be not the only one who seriously doubts Randall woll-did change the course of it all based on this board. I mean, this be fun and all, but he clearly planned this out in advance. The presence of a trebuchet should not mean he be listening to it, since most of the fans here who suggested a trebuchet before it appeared probably found their appreciation and passion for trebuchets from other earlier xkcd comics to begin with. He liked the idea long before a bunch of people he be never met and who he DEFINITELY doesn't live for the approval or acceptance of brought it up in connection with this comic. Similarly, if we end up seeing raptors, that shouldn't be cited as evidence that he be "obeying the forum requests" or any such nonsense. Randall be the reason why most of you guys like raptors to begin with (well, Randall and Jurassic Park...), and so if they show up, or the eternity bird, or the Waterman map, it woll be because Randall liked them first and planned them into things, not because we have any measure of control over the experience.

The discussion board here be amusing, but it be a corollary to the experience, not the experience itself.

Spoken like an outsider. Heresy!

Ah, 1800. Napoleon was confirmed as First Consul (ol' Boney, such a joker - swore he'd stop there, but I caught his wink), Volta describes his volatic pile in a letter to the Royal Society of London, and the U.S. Congress held it's first D.C. session. Not quite as eventful as '05, but a good year nonetheless. Christmas was a decent party, for once.

Happy 2*2*2*3*3*5*5, everyone!

I was accidental centamome, so I thought I might as well make another repository for Outside smileys, but one that is locally based (no outside links to smileys, just forum uploads). I'm also planning to do the same thing with the 1300 repository eventually. Whole OTT pages break occasionally when one of the smiley links gets steambottled by malware, or sometimes the smileys disappear from their original location and all the OTT-posted pics become broken. This way the smileys should survive as long as xkcd forum attachments do. Image

Also, I like smileys and knowing where to find them, so I selfishly made a whole post where I can hoard them.

… despite the embarrassment this usually causes …

Postby mrob27 » Fri Mar 14, 2014 7:53 am UTC

Image Blitz Progress Report Image
OTT position: NewPage 1412; newpix 3867.34;
late nix Deliverance 16 (or early mornix on the 17th), 0 A.T.

I have Blitzed through the period when I was lurking: the OTT was at NP1393 when I downloaded mscha's index to all frames; and a newly-built nopixbot began fetching individual frames from xkcd (pausing for an average of 3 millinewpix between frames so as not to spam the server); when it had finished the OTT was in NP1395. I scanned the latest few pages, but I didn't linger long.

On NP 1405 I was spotted lurking, and on NP1408 The first Beany ONG series began. On NP1410 nopixbot began retrieving the OTT in full HTML, necessary for creating the "mr*bdex", and this also took about 2 NewPages to finish. Right now, here on NP1412, I am making my firstpost to the OTT to announce it.

During the next 22 NewPages or so I'll be sharing the OTT with myself, despite the embarrassment this usually causes. I am no stranger to the process of meeting myself in a temporal loop, and it's nothing near as wonky as Primer. I think the bots enjoy trying to get two of me Image Image to switch places. I certainly enjoy the way Timborme expects the aforewhen me's to know what he'll say to the afterwhen me's. The only real downside is having to form verb tenses to discuss the now-when (the OTT here in NP1412 from my Blitzing perspective), the "Present" (from the newly-delurked, never-before-cupcaked mrob27's perspective), and the afterwhen (your Present, when you'll read this, unless you will-are Blitzing too (which of course includes me) in which case it will-is been-done-being our now-when and some future Present's aforewhen. Fry-saucers, you're on your own.).

Travelogue

@intheshax posted a rather elaborate puzzle back on NP1370, and it has now been solved after much hinting and an unprecedented group effort using Google Docs.

@AluisioASG also posted this multi-part puzzle, and has been giving hints. A smaller and related puzzle was solved by @BlitzGirl. With two more hints thanks to @ChronosDragon, I have a bit of the puzzle decoded (with perhaps one or two words of mustard) which I'll give here:

Spoiler:
puzzle: "708ap.73hfv.78xdx.3fyte.4xlvo.3fpc3.6c003.7a5fl.71jpj.7d5ol.39wqp.3ou0z.2yxoj.7csg6.54w7g.2z0ua.73kel.54d8j.5eznr.6bwub.72io3"
  example: 78xdx → 12173829 → B9C.2.05 → (2972, 2, 5) → "GLAD"
result: I am glad you reached this point — just one more. The markings follow. To understand see inside Time, building like Will.

It seems we're solving this not in the order intended, much like the intheshax puzzle. My guess on the first bits was as friutless as @ggh's, and my attempt to un-base64 the final piece gave seaish mustard. I haven't gotten too far with the Yankee Hotel Foxtrot part either, but it was fun trying:

Code: Select all

  yapkvhhouebfoxtrjtyalkevhotelfostrouyankyghotereoxtrog...
    p vh  u b     j   l  v       s   u    yg    re     g
    b qc  a j     e   b  q       e   a    tb    fa     m
    n ee  t l     o   n  e       x   t    ee    lf     t
  yankeehotelfoxtrotyankeehotelfoxtrotyankeehotelfoxtrot...

Though the 'meetup geohash' theory is dead, the epilogue sequence continues to inspire poetry, and @ggh noticed that the four 24-symbol patterns avoid each other when superimposed.

The Pope of Newpage 1400 decreed epitaphs, and many were written for the OTTers who are no longer with us. Kinda sad... 1300 was more smiley.

No worries @yappobiscuits, The otter is gilded, not gelded

And @ucim, ch*rp! The "Acts of the Clerics" is becoming truly epic, with a very memorable Scene 26.

Interblitz Sightings, etc.

I've seen @balthasar_s several times now:

and he continues to see me, like in this latest image:

Regarding "it has nerdsniped to this", I'll just say that imagebot and I enjoyed all the different balthacycles Image, thanks!

@karhell, glad you liked the @Rule110 signatures, it is one of many things I have @Sciscitor's efforts to thank for!

@taixzo, if your coma schedule (schedule, schedule, schedule) were to be yappocised far enough to go all the way around the world, would that count as "circumyappocision"?Y

And yes, the mrobdex KNOWS, but hasn't reached Skynet levels yet... we hope...

So that's it for now, and I hope you're having a great 1800! Leave a little cake over by the tempral rift for nopixbot Image

  — mrob27 Image
     (and Timborme and the bots,
who are definitely not tricking the wrong mrob into boarding the TARDIS in 22 Newpages)

Y Special note to Image — That's only figurative. Remember — gilded, not gelded.

Good suggestion ! I'll have a look at it as soon as I obtain a circular tuit (or something like that... I'm fairly sure an oblong boot will suffice, or maybe a pentagonal t... I'm getting sidetracked again aren't I?)

ucim wrote:Molpish Dark Lord, Earthling on Mars! I always enjoy reading them. And Sonicspin - You made a Kitty! :) I see ChronosDragon got his phpBB theme going. I've had to rewrite stuff from scratch more than once, sometimes from mustard like what happened to you, and sometimes just from not knowing what I was doing when I started out. It's said that when they made the DC-3, that's what they did. They built a prototype, and then started from scratch now that they know what they were doing.

I'm wondering about the blue in the ONGs... first thought is radiation, but that wouldn't leave a beanie cold. It looks like it could be air space in the collapsed structure, but there's a wall there (or it looks like it) - the Cuegan did not venture in. So the beanie is buried in something. But what? Something fluid that hardened? Whatever it is has to account for the flat face exposed to the outside, and thus can't be fluid any more.

Molpish reunion yappo and Valarya! I always wonder how many OTTers would seem the same in real life as in posts. Here we see one facet of a person, IRL we see another.

And karhell, happy birthdix!

I had a lot more to say, but I suffer from CRS. Alas, that molpy has sailed.

EDIT: didn't see profile image, so did what your username said! :/

Aye, I see where the confusion comes from. Maybe some explaining is due ?
I've been using this handle for about 10 yips, now. It started off with my great-uncle's meowlpy named Carelle (actual spelling unknown) whose encounter with a lorry went about as well as one can imagine. As a homage, I gave a fantasyified version of her name (first Carhell, then Karhell when I remembered how to write a proper gothic 'K') to a friendly NPC in a D&D game I was DMing at the time. Said NPC quickly became a recurring character and eventually an author avatar. From there, the transition to my actually using the name was just a matter of time.

So no, I have nothing to do with automotive Afterlife, though I like the drawing

Until recently, I still held out hope that a message for us about a meetup was hidden in the epilogue. That hope was strengthened when the sequences changed for 2014 - I thought maybe the date had come and gone without us having figured it out, so GLR was pushing the date to something that wouldn't require time travel. Then, at the end of January, I was sad to see how much pattern and symmetry was present in the sequences, because now I doubt that there is room leftover in which to hide a message. I should make a post about it before too much Time passes. I've pretty much given up, but it would be awesomeful if some blitzer (hint, hint) identified the folly of my ways and discovered a prize. :)

balthasar_s - treeish AotC illustrations! Act 3 is becoming a picture book! :) Also great research into your bicycle redundancy effects.

About the Beanies... I do wonder why, if they have Panther Salve and all their tech, that they'd bring the Fallen One to some stranger's place rather than use their own support network. Looks like she's going to make a stretcher from those poles.

Concerning the beanies, I'd guess it's the same problem as after the Lucky incident; pressing on is faster than doubling back. Or they're stranded just like the Fourty and need all the help they can get.

And I have no fear for the balthacycle, balthasar_s himself, or AluisioASG (dragons can fly, after all) but if my memory isn't completely gone, the First Cleric is also aboard...
