I know, I just figured that I'd put in my 2 cents. I'm fine with whatever the majority ends up wanting :)

For decree: sunshine! I'm so excited for summer, and I'm celebrating every day I get to be outside with my equimolpy without getting drenched.

Spoiler:

OTTers, hear what I will say
I'm ashamed of my ways
Came back here with empty hands
Forgive me for going away
I did never mean to leave
For so long as I did
Now on this so awe-ful day
I just want to stop and stay

I have made a great mistake
What was yours I tried to take
Was so blind I couldn't see
How unrelated it is
Now I see what I shall make
I just have to find my way

Please
I miss you so much
Please
I miss you all so much

I have been to other places
I have been to other days
I was here and I was there, yet
I miss home, let me stay

I have been so far away
I have lost myself in there
I want to go back and stay
ucim please, help me stay

I have seem so many places
I have lived so many ways
I want to go back and stay
Oh June Bug, help me stay

I have seem so many faces
I have lived so many ages
All I want is stay this day
Oh m-craw, help me stay

I had made so many plans
I had made so many presents
Yet I'm here and I can't play
Please forgive me, let me stay

What I mean is, sorry for staying away for so long and yet coming back with nothing to grace you with. I left wanting to write a story, and then I realize I didn't know what I wanted to tell. I lacked structure. I decided to give Michael (who you see in my avatar) a decent (and actually RELATED) story¹, and asked ucim for help, who convinced me to begin by establishing and exploring the story's universe instead. And then I realized I didn't have the inspiration to do it, nor the will to go and write it.

And I realized why.

¹ I realize I'll have to let go of him eventually, but I can't yet. He's one of my avatars, I can't leave him without a worthy story.

Sciscitor wrote:Ok, just have to write this down:

I know I've not been the busiest OTTer around, the Outside interfering and what not. But all those oldtimers showing up again for the Timeversary - Valary, mikrit, Stratplayer, marchlite, Ebonite, Goggalor... (I really hope I did not forget anyone) - have triggered a bad bout of nostalgia. I can't believe I've been following the OTT now for a year, and posting in it not much shorter (the Fading had brought me out). So many things happened in this year - not all have been good - but somehow I kept returning to the OTT reading along or at least skimming it, never let the Ketchup built up to become a Blitz. It seems so silly to get attached to the completely irrelevant concept of a few people talking and joking about a webcomic. At the same time I miss those people when they vanish into the basement - like BuffyGirl, Helper, Opipoble, Angelastic and all the others who built and shaped this community. I am glad when I see them posting again and if even for a very short time. I feel welcome, when I post now and then and still get bleary eyed when listening to "We Love the Thread of Time" ot "Megan and Cue".

So I just wanted to say thank you again, OTTers!

PS: Hey look! It's tresoldi, our linguist! Hello tresoldi!

I don't think it's silly at all, Sciscitor. Kieryn and I were discussing when we met up in NYC a few weeks ago that this thread changed our lives. I know so many OTTers have said the same thing here before. I miss you xuys when I'm in the basement. I think about you every single day. And when I came OUT of the basement today and saw so many timeversary filks, I absolutely teared up. :D

Well... you're probably right. I just remember there being a few instances where an ONG was posted twice because someone had edited it in with a prior timestamp, and it very well may have been NPB most times. Actually, yes, now I remember that it was mscha who always kept cleaning up after NPB.

This. And Marchlight's, and Sciscitor's, and Aluisio's, and those of everybody else who came out of the woodwork1 in Time for the celebrations. I mentally OTTify every story I read to Little Bear and every song that gets stuck in my head, I write related posts in my head about the weather and the grandbabies and the cats2, I think about you guys every day.

And it occurs to me that I haven't seen any New Yip's resolutions. I don't actually make them at New Year's in the Outside - I find it more effective to make them as situations arise - but I'm making one in here, right Now: I'm not going back to the basement. I may not post very often, but I'll be here ketchupping at least a few dips a wip, and I'll contribute what I can. (Does anymolpy else translate classical music composers to OTTish? Beesnakethoven is great, isn't he?)

So. Any other New Yip's resolutions? I'm thinking of adding to mine: drinking Outside champagne next New Yip's Eve :D

1 ‘...coming out of the woodwork’, hmm. Maybe that door in the basement is made from reannual grape wood. That might explain a few things. Maybe...

I've had to lurk most of todip - not posting since the early hours of the Timeversary - and there's been so much wowterfulness, that I can't possibly hope to comment on all of it. Y'all are so amazing! I want to do like a proper ketchup post later, but realistically - I hardly ever actually follow through with that intention. I read everything from the period when the daddy was in town, and then when my keyboard was mustard, and I hoped to revisit them and tell everyone who had made me smile or laugh a big thank you, but I'm starting to admit to myself, it ain't gonna happen. I can't even email my family back with any consistency. :(

While it's still fresh in my head though, I want to tell you where I was just celebrating the Timeversary besides lurking here. The Little Wonder and I were at a park by the sea, and when she got tired, I picked her up and carried her along the shore. While she slept, I walked with the waves gently lapping at my feet, and I thought of y'all, and tried to get my head around how big the sea is. I mean, I'm in the water, and that water is touching all the water in the bay, which is connected to the Cook Strait and the Pacific, and pretty much this whole planet of sloshing coffeesemenbaconbabiesonice. It's all touching my feet, and to get all hippy about it, like wow. The sea is big. And I'm in it.

Now, I wasn't going to mention this, because I'm pretty sure I already seem like enough of a wacko, but then I thought, could we have a meetup like this? Not a real meetup, but one where we pick a time, and we touch some water that joins with the sea, which is big, and the sea connects us with its bigness.

Of course, arguably, the internet, which is big, is already doing a pretty good job of this....

The Database is a static snapshot of the OTT. So all signatures are there from the beginning of the data gathering (except those that got changed between two scrapes, which happen about weekly or so). Having said that, there is no code in place to easily access them. But that can be changed of course.

Molpyup ketchup time...

HES wrote: At the Book of Aubron speeds (which is how I initially ketchedup) you can't fully apreciate these early frames. While the lines are thicker and the detail is less castlish1 than later on, there's still a subtlety to it.

Same here. Though I visited the OTT five times while the OTC was live, I was using explainxkcd, Aubron and Geekwagon to see Time itself. Going through it on live replay, I've seen a lot of things in the early frames I had never noticed (beyond the first 8 frames which I used for my Boom-de-Yada).
And having all of the OTTers here posting UNGs, and all the folks we've missed coming back to help celebrate, makes me really glad I Time-travelled up here for this celebration! Image

mscha wrote: Also, do we really need to allow “plus-or-minus 24”? I think we can trust OTTers to figure out the correct np (op?), using tools like your awesomeful replay viewer, my viewer (that conveniently gives the time of each frame in both UTC and ‘local’ time), and earlier oldpixbot posts.

I didn't want people to have to rely on my viewer, because that would be a single point of failure. But you point out that your viewer has local time, which I had not noticed before :D So that clinches it — I retract the sliding-window proposal.

azule wrote:Maybe an initial run for the week, then a shift to once or twice per NP thereafter. What's the calculation for the time this would take to show the rest before the next Timeversary?

Here I agree with @mscha that it wouldn't be as useful to me if the frames are stretched out like that over a longer amount of Outside time. I effectively did that while Blitzing (it took 7 mips for me to Blitz through the 4 mips of those first 1254 Newpages), and it was nothing like this Tymiversary experience now. I can only imagine that's a fairly common experience for anyone who is in the Present.

mscha wrote: ... I'll probably go for the original plan: only post if not ninja'd, and no oldpixbot post in the last n posts. ...

I think this will be seaishly molpish! As long as n is at least 1: I really do think we need to be Rosetta-serious about the double-post thing.

macraw83 wrote: ... EditONG sounds molpish, but on the other hand there's a chance that we'll run into the issue of ONGs with a timestamp well before their true time, which could confuse some OTTers into reposting an ONG. ...

That sort of thing is why I was thinking we might need the fudge factor. In particular, my xkcd fora settings put "UTC" after the time on each post, but it's really not UTC, it's my local time. I found these were the only settings that let the Newpix Converter script display the proper newpix time. But when my bot fetches the HTML (or if I view a page in a browser where I'm not logged in) it displays in real, correct UTC. This combined with the fact that OTTers are looking at the OTC from one yip ago (using Kieryn's or my index to figure out which page goes with each ONG) means we're definitely doing to get some mis-aligned UNGs.
But I suppose when an UNG is early or late, another OTTer might point that out, so no harm done.

Here's the closing bracket: ]

whew, that's better.

The Zanclean Zodiac

As great of a job as ᑫᘊᘊ could do, the balance of things was about to shift. The ocean would win, ᑫᘊᘊ would shatter, and with a terrestrial thunder would life change forever in this valley.

ImageSREEE! Timeversary Ketchup! Image

Image
For decree:
My dishwasher decided to celebrate the Timeversary by recreating the Zanclean Flood in my apartment! Image
So todip was an Outside dip dealing with a kitchenish sea, and tonip is an OTTerish nip dealing with a seaish ketchup.
(Apologies to yappo for mustarding the OTTscars release schedule.)
It's so sandcastlish to be able to open the OTT and come back to such a celebration!

Image
It's wowterful to see OTTers that have been lurking or basemented recently: Thank y'all for coming out for the Timeversary!
Names I've seen during my ketchup that make me smile to see otting again:
Valarya, pelrigg, jovialbard, buffygirl, StratPlayer, kenmelken, Exodies,
Ebonite, Goggalor, Sciscitor, marchlight, Aluisio, tresoldi, Spaceman Spiff, and probably some more that I've forgotten to list.
Thanks also to the blitzers who jumped forward to celebrate with us!
Thank you everyone for making this community what it has been over the past yip and what it is todip!

- Mayonnaise Blindpost NP1808 -

Holy molpy! I missed the Time-nyversary! Could have sworn it was the 26th, oh well!

And it led to a postsplosion, what with me being 18 pages behind now!

I will not be jumping into the present as I'd like to read the SilentONGs in sequence, but hope you're doing great, have no reason to think otherwise :)

Anyway, for this occasion I wanted to introduce the One True Thread to Jam Comics!

So, what's a Jam Comic? I think the site explains it best:

Image

I think that's perfect for the OTT, it's like Drawception, but you get to see all previous panels before submitting you own, and we create a story together!

I have created a comic called Jam Time for all the OTTers that want to take part on this, this is the first frame:

JAMONG

Image

Now you can decide what happens next!

How to take part:

First, you'll need a Twitter account. Don't worry, it will not be linked or appear anywhere, it will not send anything to your Twitter unless you tell it to do so, and once you have created your account you just sign in with a login and password, so, basically, you can create a dummy twitter account to join the site and forget about it.

Next visit Jam Time, and create your account by Signing up.

Send me a PM with your wedrawcomics username, and "like" the Jamframe by clicking on the heart that appears when you hover over it, so I can find you and allow you to add new frames to the Jam.

It sounds like a complex procedure, but it only needs to be done once and afterwards you'll be able to send as many Jamframes as you like! Just don't forget to post them here for everyone to see!

Hope people take part in this, would love to see where a Time based Jam Comic would go to, since the great thing about it is nobody really knows, but we have direct influence over it :)

See you over there!
Go! Go! You can do it username5243!
Cheers Marsh'n!
