Seaish amounts of Outside (painting my sandcastle) but been enjoying the thread, including the most recent OTTcoloreds! Also enjoying the colorbot.

I've noticed that the mrob hotdog is getting easier now that I've hit Rosetta (or maybe now that I've activated the flutterwing boost, which is wingish btw). Is it just the random Megans? I wonder what's after Rosetta. :)
mrob27 wrote:I made a hotdog that has kept a lot of people busy for longer than might be prudent, and that merits some contemplation...
The Great Lord Randall did something like that once, about a yip ago.
mrob27 wrote:[...]This is all a lot more elaborate than would be necessary if I just wanted to add boosts to the hotdog. There are about 27 extra things I needed to put in the code to provide for all this extra user interface, but I did all this because I think it's the right way to design it.
Well Done! (hmmm, did I just order a stake? I'm not a vampire, really!) I'm working on a hamburger, and it's designed for sharing information, but only with people who hold certain roles, and it gets complicated fast, so I know what you're up against!

LOL!

Well, not quite that mustardy, but everything takes longer, and there's always something that has to be done before you can do the thing you can do.

Good news: Just one rollersesion left. (there was a lot of brush work first - "cutting in") Then we can sort-of move back in. I still have trim to do (I replaced all the door trim, which was full of yellow condiment), and the future holds carpet and windows. Gee, BlitzGirl will come in handy!

I sent a little molpy to spy on your TimeAccessor. The molpy ran back to me and told me that you are using Firefox, and that its JavaScript implementation's access to Node::textContent does not implement innerText properly. I sent my molpy to the bot responsible for badge numbers, and the bot came back with this:

Code: Select all

/* This function makes up for the lack of a proper element::innerText
 * implementation in some browsers, notably Firefox. We want to do this:
 *
 *     element.innerText = text;
 *
 * but the Browser Gods do not approve. */
HTMLActuator.prototype.setTextContent = function (element, text)
{
  while (element.firstChild!==null) {
    element.removeChild(element.firstChild); // remove all existing content
  }
  element.appendChild(document.createTextNode(text));
};

...which seems to do the trick. Try it again now (you'll have to reload the page)

@HES, thank you for spotting the mustard. I'll rate this one:

I usually don't compose posts in the browser. It's data loss–prone.
When I'm on Windows, I use Sublime Text. "a<tab>, "d<tab>.
When on Linux, I take advantage of XCompose. <CapsLock>"<Left>, <CapsLock>"<Right>.

My XCompose has nice stuff on it. Arrows. Math. Greek. Superscripts and subscripts. Checkboxes.

I see now your question is not about double quotation marks, but single ones.
That's easier, for " is <Shift>' for me. So I just drop the <Shift>.

As I understand it (which is probably less than most anyone else who has heard of either of these things) "textContent" is a property of a Node object, as defined by the Document Object Model (DOM) standard, which specifies something that exists in the browser independently of any JavaScript, and "innerText" is a JavaScript method for accessing it, which originated with Microsoft and is still best supported there. "textContent" is also a JavaScript method, that works in non-Microsoft browsers but does not work in Internet Explorer.
    Coincidentally, the Q04B testing I had done was limited to Chrome for Mac, Safari Mobile, and IE 10 (in Windows 8). My needs are pretty modest, and the 2048 code I inherited from Gabriele Cirulli already solved most of the cross-platform problems for me. Getting multi-touch to work was a bit of a challenge, but fun. The only problem I had seen up 'til now was solved when I discovered that @azule had made a WOFF version of the One True Font.
    Apparently, our FFoxy friend (the browser, not @azule) just returns null when you check the innerText property. That was okay with me, because the element was initially empty anyway. But setting innerText does nothing. Of the solutions I found, another was this:

Code: Select all

/* modify textContent of a node, by setting object attribute. We test for
 * textContent first, because if present it can be relied on to work. */
function changeText(elem, changeVal) {
  if ((elem.textContent) && (typeof (elem.textContent) != "undefined")) {
    elem.textContent = changeVal;
  } else {
    elem.innerText = changeVal;
  }
}

...but I preferred the one I gave in my previous post, because it bypasses the whole issue of spoofed object properties and performs the operation directly, by explicitly deleting and inserting DOM nodes. :wink: That's what elem.innerText=... has to be doing anyway. Image

There's an old (2010) NY Times article about folks looking ahead to the Singularity I've almost posted a few times. I can't remember exactly why. The last time wasn't even that long ago, but my memory is mustard.
Anyways, I post it now because the title text of the othercomic reminded me of this:
Throughout “Transcendent Man,” Mr. Kurzweil is presented almost as a mystic, sitting in a chair with a shimmering, circular light floating around his head as he explains his philosophy’s basic tenets. During one scene at a beach, he is asked what he’s thinking as he stares out at a beautiful sunset with waves rolling in and wind tussling his hair.

“Well, I was thinking about how much computation is represented by the ocean,” he replies. “I mean, it’s all these water molecules interacting with each other. That’s computation.”

It's the rabtor! :mrgreen:
Wingish OTColored, ggh!

Question for mscha: I don't know if you've considered this feature, but would it be possible to add a link to your viewer to the OTColored for the current newpix? It's futurish (pretty cool) that oldpixbot can UNG the OTColored frames now, and it would be neat to be able do the same without the extra steps of navigating through the Database or OTW. (If it's too much of a bother, don't worry about it. :wink: )

If Oldpixbot uses the database to find the OTColorizations - it'll be safe - I added it to the db without animation. And the frame is already UNGed.

Yes, that is the specific "flashy gif" mentioned in the Boom de Yada. :D

mrob: Wikipedia says WOFF is supported by IE starting with version 9. One of the comments in the answer you linked to says IE9 supports textContent too. Seems to me you don't need innerText.

I wonder ― are we already OTColorizing SilentOngs?

Say, did we ever solve the mystery of Mrs. Mobteeseboose? What happened to it?

Remember when Mscha made those OTCphoto things? Those were great. I really like this new feature of oldpixbot's.
I made my avatar, Buffygirl hatted it, Yappo smileyed it and ggh taroted it!
I've changed, witnessing this thing so beautiful

Good luck on blitzing, katakissa, username5243, musthavebeenmykarma, iskinner, thunk, GnomeAnne, and quantized ! Keep the signposts coming, we love em in the now!
