"Yeehaw"???? . . . Really...

It's so shameful the way people have denigrated the sacred act of deep and meaningful prayer and contemplation. Have we been reduced to hotdogs? To be slathered with mustard and ketchup?

Deep Reverence is a Vital Hotdog Function!

I don't understand the dnsd.info mustard anymore.
As I earlier posted the mirror and some other things are inaccessible under their default URL because of mustard
The .dnsd.info domains belong to the dnsdynamic.org DDNS service.
Since Tuesday (20.5). they're having an "non-existent domain" mustard for dnsd.info
Today (27.5) it gives a page that says that the .dnsd.info domain has expired.
but whois says: Updated Date: 2014-05-23T12:54:30Z Registry Expiry Date: 2015-05-22T20:06:05Z, which means it's not expired.
Can someone explain this to me?

Also I recently told I'm working on something RELATED. But now I entered my "silly molpy" mode again and started thhinking it's not good enough . . .

Good luck, my blitzing friends!

FWIW, dnsdynamic.{com, org} and dnsd.info are registered with different registrars. The latter's nameservers also don't point to the former. Maybe they've lost it?
Unfortunately the NS and IP change logs are behind a paywall for me.

ChronosDragon wrote: I'd play Q04B, but my phone is quite old and without a SIM card, and wi-fi is only rarely available outside of the hotel. So even if I could load it, it'd run pretty jaggedly.

Probably the thing that makes it unplayable is the animation, which seems to be too much even for some of the desktop browsers on my 2rd Generation Core i7!
But it would still be nice to find out if it works. Sometime when you get a chance, try loading Q04B and play for a few minutes, then use "Add to Home Screen" on iOS, or "save for offline viewing" in Android. Or maybe just leave the tab open. Then disable your Wi-Fi, and then reopen the page/tab/bookmark/homepage-icon (or if you left it open, hit reload, or close and open again). If you have Andriod 2.1 or later, Blackberry 7 or later, iOS 3.2 or later, or Opera Mobile 11 or later, it theoretically should work  At least it does on my iPad and iPhone.
I've heard that Android browser is slow, but it depends on what you're testing. here is a nice summary of results across all mobile devices for the past 5 yips.

@ChronosDragon best wishes on your future adventures. At this point in my life we all had exams 6 wips early and then went into senior projects, then I had to hold a summer job and get ready for college, and I still wanted to carry on with my own electronics and programming projects. It was a lot of fun and busy and I guess pretty stressful too.

I barely know what you said there. hah. I mean, I'm considering things. *sideways eyes*

It's not urgent... but at some point I'll work out a syntax for the meme definitions, where it defines the lists of verbs, in such a way that it's defining all five types of transitive verbs at once. It won't require much work for the programmer (i.e. you) to do the same. Then, at a later time, we can add memes like CH*RPING CH*RPERS GOTTA CH*RP, and there will be another bit of code to make it realize when two or three words are supposed to be different versions of the same verb.

Link wrote: AUTOMOME is a "black box" clone.

Awesomeful! That's basically mine too but only for the code not for the word and meme lists.

Yeah, I think that's the molpiest way to go in general. We end up with different, sometimes hilariously divergent ways to do things, but that provides robustness and variety.

AluisioASG wrote: Hey, got a task for y'll (especially you, azule): visit this and this, then tell me which one seems faster. If you can do an objective analysis, please do so.

Testing procedure: Open the page in a new window. Open the debugger window and go to the Network tab. Reload. Drag the map so my part of the world is in the center. Do two clicks to get to my otter-footprint icon, and a third click to make my avatar appear. Repeat three times and take the one with the middle (not fastest or slowest) load time.
Results (my location is in Cambridge, MA, USA):
   #1 (/cdn/): load: 533ms; DOMContentLoaded: 309ms. 85 requests; 1.4 MB transferred.
   #2 (/embedded/): load: 693ms; DOMContentLoaded: 410ms. 78 requests; 1.2 MB transferred.
Summary: As @karhell noted, the cdn version is a little faster, but I only noticed by actually looking at the numbers. If embedded is easier to implement and maintain, I'd say go with that. It will matter if you get lots of users, or if you're using this as a way to learn how to make other services that have lots of users; in either of these cases it's probably better to use CDN just to gain the experience.

Although that way may not be obvious at first unless you're Dutch.

I see the same here, way on the other side of the Atlantic (which is seaisher than the sea). Not knowing much about the time-delays involved, I would guess that they renewed their DNS hosting too close to the deadline, and the expiration started propagating through the DNS servers before the renewal. Though @AluisioASG's suggestion seems a little more likely.

Today I learned that Source Engine maps can be created in 3DS Max.

I may never go back to Hammer.

ETA: On the other hand, it's all done through a plugin. While I'm sure it's quite powerful and I could probably get used to it, having to parametrically set a dx11 texture shader whenever I want to do blend textures (instead of it just being a native thing, like Hammer) is a bit of a tradeoff.

I'd suggest any of the Ubuntu based distros (e.g. Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Mint), but I would recommend testing any of them on a live cd first. The standard Ubuntu has a desktop environment that's rather unique, so it's probably a good idea to try it out before committing to a full install.

If you need something a little more Windows-user-friendly than raw Ubuntu, try Mint. It comes with the Cinnamon shell, which has a default layout that's just like Windows. You can also install it for other Ubuntu- or Debian- based distros, though its a little sketchier that way.

Oh, and make sure your wifi drivers are supported if you're on a laptop. Mine had to be recompiled from source. That wasn't fun.

Oh, I'll be doing that when I get to my parents' home (but from a Live USB).
This is the situation: last night there was a power outage. Arch won't fully boot. We've gone through the same situation earlier this year, but I can't remember how I fixed it so I can't tell them how to do that by phone. (I've got a SSH server running there so I can update and fix the system remotely, but it won't help when the system doesn't boot.)
I intend to express mail them a live USB drive so them can use the computer until I get there on June 7.

Good. I was already thinking of Mint, given its popularity. Now I just have to wait for it.

So that confirms Mint is the way to go. Already downloaded Ubuntu and Lubuntu (wow. such speed. much download. ― really. I'd never seen this connection reach 700k before) for alternatives.

All three of them have gone behind the cliff at some point - in fact, Ms Frizzle went there just before she carried the round thing. :?

The pile is the stuff they wish to take home. Due to the fact that the stuff is always a bit warm pregnant women will have it close most of the time, together with some eternally warm rocks from the Cave. The resulting babies are heavily deformed and not capable of staying alive. They do not find the reason for that, and the tribe goes extinct. Thus end the SilentOngs.

The new What-if is almost as morbidly disturbing as Neil's predictions. Also, it has squirpies.

I wonder if they have dark green pudding on Vulcan?

Quite possibly. :P Here is the HTML5 compatibility table for Toshiba's version of NetFront 3.0, the same browser as found in Palm OS 5, which is the OS in Palm Tungsten E. They support localStorage, applicationCache, and a bunch of other stuff. I might have to test for and use a prefixed form of requestAnimationFrame.

AluisioASG wrote: Any suggestion for a clueless user-friendly Linux distro?

I was going to recommend something based on Ubuntu, before @slinches and @ChronosDragon thoroughly double-ninja'd the ch*rp out of me :D I'm kind of out of the loop on the {clueless user}–friendly distros, preferring the "compiled completely from source which is actually present on your hard drive" or "for programmers who've been using UNIX since BSD 4.2 on a VAX and would love to customize the kernel" end of the spectrum :P In fact I'm surprised this hasn't happened to me yet.

RELATED anecdote:

My netbook is so full of mustard I'm in the process of defenestrating it and applying mint. Not cinnamon, though - I don't think it could handle even that.

Unfortunately all the mustard joined forces and chirped my boot sector. I'll have to deal with it after exams.

@yappo - abstract, but surprisingly less ear-bleedy than I was expecting. Someone in the comments mentioned "phantom of the OTTera" (capitalisation mine). This needs to happen.

I didn't understand what they are doing in the last 20 SilentONGs, so I watched it several times again and I finally realized that they are burying him.
