Hmm, I forgot to mention that yesterday I passed a shop with a big poster version of pelrigg in the window - took me by surprise. Hi pelrigg! :)

Oh, I guess that's why it looks like the places I loved to hang around in when I went to Cornell.

Why do I get a donut for a joke I made outside the thread? I thought the punsaw/donuts only applied within the thread!

Mustard Confirmed. I just got a timeout on c.xkcd.com trying for a random OtherComic, though browsing via the archive seems to be fine.

I'm surprised by the quantity of existing decree material

How I found it:

ENHANCE!
BFTF-7-ENHANCEd.png

AFAICT this suggests to search in the OTT MIRROR for the safeword.
(So far I “only” searched in the OTT itself.)

Okay:
mirror-search-1.png
First I only found those safewords we already know.

But then:
mirror-search-2.png
The mirror reminded me of a story with yet another safeword. :)
(Hmm… now I can also find it in the OTT itself. How could I overlook it last time?
That must be a conspiracy!)

Trying that one gave me:
ni-20140722-1146.png
(This is the frame #0 balthasar_s mentions below.
It's title text reads: “I'd highly recommend following the first commandment.”
I didn't take it as part of the “something” it mentions, so I didn't ONG it at first.)

The URL of this is http://1190.bicyclesonthemoon.dnsd.info/ongoing.htm.
If you wait and refresh it, it displays a new frame from time to time.
(Hmm… this reminds me of something. What was it again? ;))

Trying to view the future reveals something which was already sent to us from the future:

It's explanation time!

Postby balthasar_s » Tue Jul 22, 2014 12:54 pm UTC

It's time to explain how the redundaspoiler works (and not only)
Spoiler:
The index.htm is a normal html file. But wait, A redundaspoiler? It's not even a forum post. Clicking the [Show] button takes you to /redundant?spoiler=show. Now the spoiler is open (without any Javascript!). Clicking the [Hide] button takes you to /redundant?spolier=hide. Now the spoiler is closed again. Oh, that is easy, spoiler=show opens the spoiler and spoiler=hide closes it, right?
WRONG.
The spoiler=show and spoiler=hide parameters are a distraction. They don't do anything. Everything is controlled by a hidden parameter, o which is not visible in the URL because of the POST method (GET works too). If o has a value the spoiler is hidden, otherwise it's shown. But that's not everything. If you closse it and open again (most people only opened it once, without closing), the "viewed 1190 times" becomes "viewed 1192 times". The n parameter does this. The displayed number is 1190+n. At 1222 (n=32) the spoilercontent is different. . .

And here is the code for it:
spoiler.c

Code: Select all

// some spoiler fun. //

#define REDBUTTON 32

#include <cgi.h>
#include <stdio.h>

s_cgi *cgi;

int main (int argc, char *argv[])

I'll also explain how the [DON'T CLICK!] worked but not now.

also when you refresh /ongoing.htm or /ongoig.png the frame is sent to you again. Even if it didn't change. But you don't have to refresh it all the time. Under the frame there is a timer which shows you how long to wait.

Cycling past those giant reels of undersea cable makes me feel like a hamply in a hardware store.

Much like visiting a hardware store.

Adventure:
Spoiler:
Been cycling since my last post. 60 miles, I think. I was following the RELATED "coast & castles" route. Saw lots of coast, but not a single castle. (That autocorrected to cattle. Saw plenty of that). Lovely dip though. The sea was big and doing what it wanted, which seemed to be "lazing on a dummy afternoon" and the moving air was doing so unraptorishly.

How are you doing these? Manually, in a graphics manipulation software, or automatically?
Because I have things like the NewpixbOTTification or 403fication and they can be easilly adjusted for sustainabilization. I can even do it for you if you want (as a reward for discovering the bftf).

Manually, using The GIMP. No big deal.

Hmm…
  • It's not sustainable if I try to ONG all the bicycleONGthemoons. I hope that someone will jump in when it's coma time for me.
  • What bothers me more is that I don't see any sustainable way to link to a viewer. I can only link directly to the image (which I do ATM), or to http://1190.bicyclesonthemoon.dnsd.info/ongoing.htm – which would be a spoiler¹ for the Blitzers.
  • What is also somewhat annoying is the need for a redundant spoiler for each ONG. Here, indeed, an automatic sustainabilization which I can link directly to from the ONG would be more sustainable than my manual sustainabilization – even if the manual sustainabilization itself is not a big deal.
BTW, Newpixbot did all that all the time for Time and for TimeAfterTime. Image

Sustainable greetings,

Do you know what happens when no-one sees the latest ONG until the new comes?

I'm going to make ongoing.htm accept the f parameter the same way that ongoing.png does; today or tomorrow already done.
  • What is also somewhat annoying is the need for a redundant spoiler for each ONG. Here, indeed, an automatic sustainabilization which I can link directly to from the ONG would be more sustainable than my manual sustainabilization – even if the manual sustainabilization itself is not a big deal.
If I made the automatic sustainabilization it wouldn't help with this. The number of requests for the frame #0 that you posted generated just by OTTers refreshing the newpage is much bigger than expected. Now if you posted the sustainabilization, after each refresh the server would not only have to send again but also generate again the sustainabilized ONG. That would be too much for my riverish botcastle and not sustainable.

That's one of the few words where I do more regularly use the American version because 1. It's shorter and easier, 2. It's more phonetic and removes REDUNDANT letters. And I figured, even though "dough" makes sense because it's made of dough, it's definitely not a nut, so making the first bit wrong as well shouldn't be a problem. :P

Nothing, probably, but … :shock: That must never happen! That's not proper waiting!
balthasar_s wrote:I'm going to make ongoing.htm accept the f parameter the same way that ongoing.png does; today or tomorrow already done.
I edited my ONGs to link to that.

One could cache the generated sustainabilizations, so they don't need to be generated again, but downloading them with each newpage refresh would trebuchet your botcastle. So let's not do that.

Instead, I'll do your botcastle a favour and upload a copy of frame #0 to my ONG. Done.

I had to prepare the botcastle for this. If there is mustard that makes the botcastle inaccessible from outside it shouldn't ONG in silence. If nobody saw the latest ONG (nobody downloaded ongoing.png) it won't ONG the next but will Wait for it instead. So thay you won't misss the new ONGs.

That's exacty what Newpixbot does (using a copy of my NewpixbOTTiffication code on mscha's server),
but downloading them with each newpage refresh would trebuchet your botcastle. So let's not do that.

Thanks. Luckily the filesizes for the frames aren't big because they are 4-color PNGs.

I wanted to present y'all with a story yesterday, but I'm kinda late in the schedule. I was considering the use of mrob's writing style; it looks easier to review and digest than full-blown chapters. Hm. What happened to The Dark Lord?

(Note to self: possible OTTish source languages include English, French, German and Dutch.)
