Your request is far too important to be expressed in so few words (your grammar also confuses me). Therefore, I make a similar request:

For those attending the conference in Bochum:
Remember that the OTT is a public forum.
Please use discretion and do NOT put any information
in posts to the OTT, or any other publicly-visible place,
unless you know for certain that everyone concerned approves
of you posting the information.

For example, don't post pictures of attendees, attendee names,
ages, places of residence or schooling, Twitter handles, website URLs,
or any other information (online-related or "Real World" related)
about attendees (or anyone else)
unless you know for certain that the specific person involved
approves of the specific piece of information being made public.

Thanks for pointing this out.

Respecting the privacy of others is an important ingredient for a sustainable community, in particular in online media.

And I'm pope again.

Optional decree:
Respect others.
In particular their privacy.

Dear conference guests,
if you want to reach us, please
contact sus_organizer via email or via the phone number he gave you, and
contact Sustainabilizer via email or PM. I also read the OTT.

Good that we were reminded of this. I didn't even think of this aspect. But it's important.

@mrob,

If you're going the live-cd way, maybe it would be simpler to set up a virtual machine ?
That would save the burning to a cd, as well as the boot fiddling, at the cost of some disk space and VM software.

That's from frame 70 of the TaT beanie story, when Beanette gave birth to her two children.

Perhaps... I'd have to install VM software capable of running under Windows 8 and hosting Linux as a guest OS. Can that be done as cheaply as just booting a live disc? In any event, it's a great idea and another puzzle I'll leave until after the conference. Right now I'm far too busy converting my talk to a paper (which is fun, because I like to write, and the result will be a lot more sustainable anyway, so it's all good!).

ergman wrote:that's an... interesting frame. are those beanies with Cuegan dolls?

@ZoomanSP and @Sustainabilizer pointed out what frame it is; I would guess that the people in the BFTF story have gotten to OTT:1445:28 or Newpix 4101.51. The "dolls", i.e. the beanies' children, are a reference to xkcd 441.

Scene 43
Exterior, day.
Wide shot on the Grotto.
It is early evening, and the setting sun paints the mist of the Great Waterfall in orange and crimson, with fingers of purple that appear high above where the shadows play on the Holy Arrow of Armageddon, still stuck in the rocks. The camera trucks in and pans left along the cliff face where we can pick out The Pope and First Cleric approaching. During the following dialog the camera trucks in.
The Pope wrote:It's very odd. BlitzGirl disappears, Kieryn disappears, the redundakitties are nowhere to be found.
First Cleric wrote:BlitzGirl does disappear every now and then, and it usually brings mustard. But not this time. That's what's odd.
The Pope wrote:Yes, and Kieryn. Every day I can see the smoke from his home across the hills. But that just stopped.
Spoiler:
First Cleric wrote:Maybe he's building a new kind of BlitzRocket. The OTT is very seaish now. Who else is involved in BlitzRocket design.
Having almost reached the Grotto, the Pope stops in his tracks.
The Pope wrote:mscha! He's been a long time in the basement, leaving us a bot to try to fool us. But I just saw him recently.
First Cleric wrote:Something's up. I can feel it.
They continue walking past the camera, which pans to follow, revealing the Grotto in the background. There are two small figures praying next to what appears to be a canoe. The Pope and First Cleric stop as they arise, but when they see it's the Pope, they both kneel and bow their heads.
Their POV, medium shot looking up at Pope and First Cleric
The Pope wrote:Arise, you are in Grotto. We are all equal, and very riverish, next to the Great Lord Randall whom we contemplate here. May we join you?

CU on the two kneeling people, who rise up.
jimbobmacdoodle wrote:Your Pontiffness! I could hardly say no!
Beidah wrote:But I bet you could say 'ni'!
whispered, jimbobmacdoodle wrote:Hush, that's The Pope!
Beidah wrote:Yeah, I was wondering what came of that cult/religion thing.
The Pope moves into the shot.
The Pope wrote:Well, welcome! You have found yourself right in the middle of it. Allow me to introduce First Cleric.
The camera moves to include First Cleric.
jimbobmacdoodle wrote:jimbobmacdoodle.
Beidah wrote:Beidah. We were just contemplating the Old Times. To read The Whole Thing was, how do you say it now, "Zanclean"?
jimbobmacdoodle wrote:Yes. A lot has changed. The pace is much calmer now.

CU - The Pope
The Pope wrote:Beidah...now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time...a long time.
First Cleric wrote:One of the Old Ones!
The Pope wrote:Not only that, but a real BlitzGirl the Primordial! In the flesh!
The Pope kneels before them.
medium shot on the two Old Ones
First Cleric wrote:I thought they were just, well, you know. Mythical.
The Pope wrote:Oh no, they are very real.
The camera pulls back to include all four as the Pope turns to the Old Ones.
The Pope wrote:Smopu hvala nuvi dict amuah!
jimbobmacdoodle wrote:Whazzat mean?
Beidah wrote:Hush! It's religion!
The Pope wrote:"I am deeply honored to be among you." It's in the language of the Raft People. Which I guess is not the language of the Canoe people.
First Cleric wrote:So, you both Blitzed the thread before there was such a thing?
Beidah wrote:If that's what you call it.
The Pope wrote:Wonderful! Zanclean! You know what this means?
The camera focuses on First Cleric, and stays focused on him as he becomes more and more agitated.
First Cleric wrote:No, no. Not now. The redundakitties, remember?
The Pope wrote:We must have a canonization! A wingish celebration!
First Cleric wrote:No! We have a mission! What about BlitzGirl?
The Pope wrote:Where's the herald? Sound it from the Highest Hill! We cannot delay!
First Cleric wrote:Focus, your Popeness! Think about mscha! What's happening?
The Pope wrote:It's a most Baobabish happening! Two BlitzGirl the Primordials!
First Cleric wrote:Kieryn! The BlitzRockets! Something's not right here. We can't just...
First Cleric is cut off by (SFX) a huge roar in the sky. He looks up.
Wide shot, looking towards the Cathedral. - The sky darkens as the sound builds to a deafening whine, there is a thunderclap and a bright flash, and something blindingly bright rushes quickly by overhead, too quickly to make out, and continues over the cliffs as the camera follows.
offscreen, jimbobmacdoodle wrote:What the ch*rp?
As the sound fades, there is an unmistakable echo of "molpy molpy molpy", and then nothing.
Wide shot, looking along the cliffs where we pick out Second Scribe, rushing towards the Grotto. She is shouting something, but is too far away for us to make it out. First Cleric moves into the scene, looking towards where the craft vanished.
First Cleric wrote:You see - we can't have the celebration now.
The camera trucks back to also include The Pope.
The Pope wrote:Of course we can! And we have a third Blitzer! This is Awesomeful! Can you make out what Second Scribe is saying?
First Cleric wrote:No, but I can't imagine it's good news.
The Pope wrote:Of course it is. Three Blitzers! How much better...
The Pope is cut off by SFX another loud thunderclap as the sky is filled with kaliedescopic patterns...
Wide shot - another section of the sky ...and what appears to be a another BlitzRocket roars past, making a sixty degree curve right above the Grotto. It disappears over the cliffs just as the previous one did.
Close-up on The Pope, clearly in awe, and contemplating the meaning of all this. The Second Scribe rushes into the scene and grabs the Pope's attention. The camera pulls back.
Second Scribe wrote:The molpies are missing! The molpies are missing!
The Pope wrote:Say... what?
Second Scribe wrote:The molpies are missing! All of BlitzGirl's molpies are gone!
First Cleric wrote:This can't be good.
jimbobmacdoodle wrote:Could somebody fill me in on what all of this means?
The Pope wrote:It means that...
The Pope is cut off as a deep rumble is both heard and felt in the ground.
Close-up on First Cleric, looking up.
First Cleric wrote:Oh. My. Randall.
A shadow comes over First Cleric's face, and continues moving across the entire valley.
Wide shot - the sky, or what can be seen of it. The underside of a huge object that could only be described as a sky-castle, floats above the valley as the sounds get louder and deeper. It drifts towards the Great Cathedral, allowing us to see it's castle form, and then with a loud scream rushes over the cliffs just like the other craft.
Second Scribe wrote:Holy Grapevine!
The Pope wrote:The molpies?
Second Scribe wrote:No. Maybe. Look at this.

Close-up on a scroll held by Second Scribe, upon which is written "Gazebo Ointment Harpsichord Credenza Bungalow".
Second Scribe wrote:It's the Book of Revelations. I've been studying it for nearly a full yip, and I think I've figured out what it might mean.
The Pope wrote:You've been working on that since, well, since the Stations of the Ong.

medium shot - the group
Second Scribe wrote:Yes, and I almost understood it, until I... well... Never mind. There's a gathering. A conference. Something. I'm not sure. But it's not here, it's there.
First Cleric wrote:Then we must go.
The Pope wrote:Yes, we must. But you know what that means.
Beidah wrote:You have to pack?
The Pope wrote:No, alas that which I must do is also that which I cannot do. It is a basic tenet of the Order of the Holy Contradiction.
First Cleric wrote:But I can go.
The Pope wrote:No, you can't. You are bound by the same rules as I am.
First Cleric wrote:... which means I must go.
The Pope wrote:Indeed. You are wise beyond your ways. Are you ready?
First Cleric wrote:No.
Second Scribe wrote:Then you must depart at once.
Beidah wrote:This is daft!
jimbobmacdoodle wrote:Hush - it's religion!
The Pope wrote:You say perhaps I pray too much. You could be right. But there is Time for everything. Here, take my prayer tiles; they may be handy on your voyage.
First Cleric wrote:If only I had the Book of Armaments!
The Pope wrote:It will be there when you need it.
Second Scribe wrote:Randalspeed!
The camera follows First Cleric as he begins to climb the cliff above the Grotto.
humming to herself, Second Scribe wrote:Find every molpy,
Don't lose your steam.
Follow every signpost.
That should be your theme!
As First Cleric passes the Holy Arrow of Armageddon, he stops, thinks for a moment, reaches down, and plucks it out of the ground. It comes out easily, and he sticks it in a fold in his cloak, and then continues to climb.
Wide shot, looking down from his POV. Pope and Second Scribe kneel down.
The Pope and Second Scribe wrote:Smopu hvala nuvi dict amuah!
jimbobmacdoodle wrote:What just happened?
The Pope wrote:I don't really know.

Hey All...

Everyone looks so busy with their travel plans. (Boy, you xuys don't know how much I want to be there with you. Actually, you probably do, especially if you're one us not going.)

To all of you traveling: Have a good and SAFE journey.

Neil_Boekend wrote:AAAH. PANIC! I have to bike tomorrow and I still have a gazillion things to do!!

And to Neil: Stay warm and dry on your journey. (Biking in February? Not just biking in Feb. A bike trip in Feb. 'scuse me while I make some hot cocoa to warm up...)

I won't be making it to the OTTCon, BUT I did take the 12th & 13th off so I can sit at home and watch "Live." [Of course, to see it all I'll be getting up at 'Holy-ch*rp" in the AM. Still dark outside AM... I haven't seen the chirpy-cam, but I'm sure with SBN's "Dummy Guide To Chirpy-cam" she had a few pages ago, there should be no trouble.

>>Did somebody say something about IM or some other live chat method of asking questions and making applause for the remote viewers? Has that been settled? (I'm an odd one {as if that has gone unnoticed} I don't have facebug and I don't tweet or twitter or what-the... My phone's like SBN's, except it's a 'candy bar'; I make phone calls and, with difficulty, send texts.)

Congrats to ED on the continuing adventures of SandCastle. (Maybe I should read up on the hints and what-not again and give it another shot. {I lost ALL cookies to a computer m*stard a bit ago. So I've kind of let it slide. Since I had been playing since about dip 5 or 6 of when you started it, there were certain things I didn't do, like "Time Travel".})

Saying "Hi" to mscha. (From one basementeer to another.)

Saying "Hi' to benedikt_wi on his first post. Not Just here on the OTT, but the fora in general. (Good info too.)

To all of you who commented on my finding out about GLR and myself; Thank you. It's a bit of an ego boost. I told my aunt and cousin the info would cause a small riot. And it did. I don't remember all who made comments, but let me point to BlitzGirl with the first one and to ZoomanSP for the best one.

Sorry to hear that yappo can't make it. Isn't it a pain how a job cuts into your life???

@imjb "Starlight" sounds like a grand Time. I hope you can find someone to go with. (I saw a traveling version of 'Cats' when it was in Denver oh, so long ago and I could see myself going to 'Starlight'. Particularly with friends. Saw 'Cats' by myself...)

How much Nutella can be put in a croissant?
That's a question I answered a few minutes ago. Emirates provides a molpish breakfast.
Yes, I am posting this from within the aircastle, and StormAngel is beside me.
Our flight to Dubai was delayed about a NP, but we were raced raptorishly (with a few other people making the same connection) through the apropriate parts of the airport and made our plane in Time, though everyone else on the flight were probably close to needing to annoy Corinne. Which I probably mispelted.

We'll have plenty of time to get our bags, some cash, and rail pass before the trains I've reserved. So all is currently on track.

While I'm happy with that schedule (schedule schedule) in that it means I get to actually enjoy the rest of the conference (rather than be terrified of impending public speaking), it may be worth having a contingency in case you have to wait for it

Pass customs - success (no op - nothing to declare)
Obtain cash euros - success
Obtain national rail pass- success

We guess that „Wagen 6, Platz 76“ is for you, and „126“ is for your bike.

I've discovered that the best way to find a lost item is to make very clear that you've completely lost it. Tell parents? Find it five minutes later. Order a replacement? Find it immediately after clicking "confirm". Post to this thread? Oh, there it is!

Preface, if you want to be reminded what this is:
Spoiler:
This is a short(ish) story I wrote two summers ago, while time was still progressing and I was just starting to get involved in the community. It wasn't written for the thread in the slightest, but when i had pretty well finished, I realized the RELATEDness was undoubtable. I feel like it's a little relevant to the Sustainability discussion going on right now, so I figured I'd share. I don't really expect to make a concrete point out of all this, but I feel like it's atleast something I can contribute since I'm incapable of making anything genuinely relevant. Ignore the poor writing and likely geographic and logical inacuracies and focus on the accidental analogy:

Spoiler:
I wasn't quite 'eased into it' per-say, they put me to work the next morning, and the next and the next. But time pressed on relentless, and at some point the bizarre became routine. A man can get used to anything, it's part of who we are. Being forced to work daily probably helped with that; it was so different on The Mariah that I had no choice but to ask for help on all but the simplest tasks. I was a student, not a slave. Cause of that I got to know everybody there quite well.
Things aboard the Mariah were done in pairs, so I met folk one at a time.

There'd be working on traps and such with Sebastion, who was the grandest engineer I ever knew. He took good care to explain to me how everything he made worked, from rat traps, to distillery cans, and he never got impatient with my ignorance. I was with him when he started working on his idea of sharpening things off the road, and it was risky business leaning over the side before we made a hatch down to it. But Seb was as trustworthy of a guy as you could have with you, and I didn't mind doing the physical work while his ripened brain thought the important things.

Then of course I had to learn to cook with Willy, cause everybody had to take turns making the meals. This was Willy's specialty though, and no one but him could make grease taste so good. I learned my hardest, but it did take a few rotations for my meals to elicit anything but giggles from willy and groans from everyone else.
He wasn't a young looking fellow, Willy, but he was childish at heart, and it shone through his delicate cooking.

Then there was taking the wheel with Garry. We'd spend our long, straight-line hours philosophizing, as the desert makes a man do, though comically, as Garry makes you.
I'd spew questions out the window like "if this road goes on forever, and we been driving forever, how far have we gone?" And Garry would volley back with "If I've been on the road forever, and we ain't gonna stop, am I viable for a midlife crisis?"
And the only answers would be a whole lot of pleasant nothing in the rear view mirror, closer than it appeared.

Calvin poured out passion when I talked with him. Each and every beat of his heart was for the Mariah, and I have never seen anyone so in love with what they do. A couple months in, when my courage among these folk had grown, I asked him why. He said to me, with the most serious joy in his eyes, that it wasn't just about the truck, or the inventions. Calvin cared for us like we were his own children, and Amy too, they were
always like-minded. You think that sounds weird, but that's more than I ever got from my own blood. Blood doesn't hold up strong against huddling up against a sheet of metal, defiant against the dry, windy night. Confinement does more than birth to shape a man. Simply because they stumbled upon me, I found myself part of a self sufficient little village on wheels, and reveled in the daily joy of hard work and wide skies. It stopped bothering me that we had no destination, direction or deadline. I stopped caring about how impossible it all was. I didn't give a shit that no road is as long as the one we traveled, that no vehicle lasts as long as ours did, that there was no way we had the resources we had. It was because it was, and...
And we just coasted along with that comforting fact, into the endless horizon. Forever. That's the story.

The End! Only NOT, because I never finished the story! The story was supposed to end with some ill=thought out conflict about Elli having some lost love and his need for her being enough to destroy the entire operation, hence why the narrator was able to be telling the tale to outsiders. But I couldn't bring myself to write that ending, whether due to a lack of writing ability or because I had noticed the parallel, I can't say. I thought about having a snap back to the present with the Narrator somehow being still in denial, but I just sort of gave up and left it alone for a long time.

However long later, talk of Sustainabilization begins, and I realize that I might have already made something about that, completely by accident! So there it was, and here we are. I'm not sure what my point is. The OTT is like a car careening down a highway? What sustains a community is momentum? Rats are tasty? I don't feel like self-analyzing much more myself, but feel free to. Please tell me what the hell I was subconsciously doing 2 years ago, and any insight you might glean from it. Thanks, everybody.

Part Three
Hmm. For whatever reason, I thought this would end off on the day of the conference. Clearly, I can't count to four. Anyway, have fun everyone!
