the mrONGbdex story continues.

Code: Select all

"This is your final warning," said the Cognitative Engine.  "Or what? You'll call *me* a 'MOLPY' too?!?" and he turned in disgust and stomped away.  "You *are* a molpy, albeit a rather grumpy one. And if you won't agree that this," (waving his metal arm at the original duck picture) "is a molpy, I'll--"  "Which I *don't!*" Mrorl shouted back, turning to face the great colossus.  The Engine continued, "--I'll rise up and destroy your workshop, and everything it stands for!"  "You wouldn't dare to destroy your very birthplace! I built you to the highest standards of bOTTronics, including full respect for your environment and all creatures. It's effectively impossible!"  "I could, can, and will, for I have full power of self-determination and vow to pursue my own truth as I see fit, and you will be swept aside, if you so much as utter your condescending corrections one more time!"

Always a pleasure to send word to our OTTerkin. I've decided that Europe is a lot like home. There are people and houses and streets and cars, just like at home. Yes the people talk differently to me and the streets are made of different materials and the houses look different and the cars drive on the other side of the road. But it's not so different. People still like to eat food, and they get their jobs done and get paid.

And yet there's no place like home. We're finaly back in Australia and have only one flight left, which will board in about a newpix and should take around four.
I have been wearing your socks for an entire dio now, and they are still comfy. I haven't realy slept in that time.

There were a lot of directions to follow. In Dubai, after showing boarding passes to leave the departure lounge, we went down an escalator (what?) and everyone's bags were checked again and we waited in a second departure lounge. The main thing they checked for was bottles of water, and so many silly people had bought and brought these so they were confiscated :P To enter Australia we had to fill out a form with our personal details and say that we didn't visit Africa, then when actuslly entering there was an automatic passport scanning machine which asked us the same question so the paper form was redundant and not in a molpish way.

Also the first shop in the domestic Perth airport departure area is a sunglasses shop calles Eye Love Perth. Does anyone hear a roaring or buzzing sound in the distance? It's plane what it is...

Hi addams! I hope the airports did not black hole you (but since I can read your emissions it seems likely you are not trapped).
addams wrote:How are my socks?

This. This should be a thing. Can we make this a thing? OTTers gift each other with socks and then ask each other "how are my socks?" Anyone?
I should not bias what this means with my own views, since OTTers are known for finding new meanings in things that surpass the original intent. But I will share that in it I hear addams, in her love for the "meat-bags" she encountered at OTTcon, wishing them safe (and blister-free) travels, and checking in on their well-being. "Are you molpish? How are my socks?"

ETA: my own bias in the form of a nonstandard, I hope.

The sock thing reminds me of the book whose title is something like "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants". I never read it but got to skim it some - looks interesting and well written.

Glad to hear of the traveling OTTers arriving home safely. I presume with all the socks they intended to arrive with.

Rather good little series of books, if you don't mind teen-to-young-adult fiction. In particular the different personalities of the characters are portrayed steakishly. There are four books in the main series, and I think a fifth sort of follow-up book which I haven't read yet.

Ooh, something to enhance!

Image

I did a bit with the color curves in Gimp, just to see what I might find. First I fiddled with value (gray scale), then for jollies and jiggles I gave different curves to each of the three colors.

Image

Looks like a tripod with a gizmo on it. Or a giant thumbtack. Or one of those "grow sticks" for plants. (really seaish plants!)

Or the business end of a Really seaish hypodermic needle.

The top looks a bit crennelated, is this how they made their sandcastles? That's like using a clip-on tie.

Steakish escondment ST!

I think it's a giant pipette. LaPetite is going to return the sea back to its previous levels one dropper at a Time.

Hi! BlitzGirl;

Pipette!
That's the word I was looking for!

Spoiler:
Gee. My first thought was Gun.
Pipette is good. Very Lab-like.

We like Labs.
Right?
Spoiler:
Guns lead to nothing but problems.

Get a gun. Then get a horse.
Then fire the gun, from the horse.

It's a logical progression that goes in a complete circle.
Now; No gun and No horse.

A Pipette may be slow.
No big surprises with a pipette.

*CHIRP. THAT. MUSTARD.*

Postby mrob27 » Sun Feb 22, 2015 3:35 am UTC

The casbottle I use most for running bots, a big 8-core thing with 27GiB of memory27, seems to be much more stable than the mobile one I commonly use to compose these posts. That's good, because it's the one generating the mr*bdex and ONGing the bOTTeriada, for example. Todip the mobile casbottle decided to go into this really slow mode where I had to follow the First Commandment for just about 3 millinopix between input actions (typing a key or clicking the chumtoad) before it would notice. Steambottle.

More <computery stuff> s*dness... The mustards who run my hosting provision service have decided to block access to broswers older than some point in the past, based on the "user agent string". This means I cannot view my website from Netscape Navigator 4.7 anymore. The mechanism they are using is intended to block "obviously fake user agents", apparently to fight some kind of malicious agents. I have tried to explain to them that these "user agent strings" can be faked, so trying to keep the baddies out this way is pointless. I have also tried to explain that I have many users in countries where people commonly cannot afford to buy an organized sand that runs a newer browser. (My webpages are only a little more complex than they were in 1998. It's all about sustainability.)
So far, I can't even get them to read my entire reply. (I wrote, "I tried again and Netscape is still blocked from my website", and they replied that my IP address is not blocked. I had to write back and say, it's not the IP address that's blocked, it's Netscape that's being blocked.) I sent a screen-shot of the 403 error in the Netscape broswer.
My netscape Navigator has no problem loading lots of bigtime websites like Google, Wikipedia, Apple, and so on. I'll probably have to move mrob.com somewhere else.

Curious. I just spotted the RELATEDly-named user 1 1 2 3 5 8 13 21 browsing the forum. I wonder if xey play Sandcastle Builder?

Thanks for the help, @AluisioASG! I think my problem is not knowing where the boundaries of the puzzle are.
mrob wrote: 6.349e-4 Hz is about once per 0.4375 nopix.

There should be an integer somewhere around here, and a multiple of 1 or 8 too.

Oh, sure. It's 1575 seconds, or 1575000 milliseconds; the first is a multiple of 1 and the other is a multiple of 8. But I wanted to avoid outside units. :)
Anyway, I understand that perhaps @pelrigg and I can use the clues (subject and content of your recent post) to find the talk/presentation you were planning for the conference...
The title of that presentation was Content Preservation and Migration out of Non-Cooperative Hosts for phpBB-based Online Communities. That suggests The Raftcastle. I tried a few query-type URLs with '?w=0" at the end but didn't get too far. Random guessing is not my strength.
  Any ideas, @pelrigg?

CHIRPIES HAVE ABOUT A HUNDRED WORDS FOR MOLPYSNAKES,
BUT NONE FOR FOREGOATING.

27I only kindof set it up that way on purpose.

The internet got 100 times better when, thanks to an extension with a typo'd regex, my browser started replacing the word "touchpad" with "chumtoad".

So, I wrote a XHTML-to-BBCode XSL stylesheet. No attachbox support. Can be twerked to output man pages.

Okay, wait, I had to redo the calculation. You have the frequency already, so I'll give you a prime period and an 8∣ amount.

mrob wrote:That suggests The Raftcastle

The Raftcastle is something else entirely. For this task we need a bigger boat.

Also, I gave you the magic word twice now.

And remember, I'm a slow, procrastinating writer. You may have to wait once you get there.
