Greetings from the basement!-1 Being busy keeps me down here, so it's not as bad as it sounds - being too busy to post here also means I'm too busy to wish I could be posting herehuh.

Anyway, I only have a few minutes free, so before I ramble off into a million threads<1billion, I just wanted to say something:

I was reading this morning, that otters hold hands while sleeping - apparently so they don't drift apart, but I like to think its because they're just that awesome :-D

<0Feels more like a rollercoaster than a basement, but my perceptions are all messed up anyway

How'd I get up here? I'm supposed to make a decree now? How about this:

(Mumble) years ago some friends and I did TV shows at a public access tv station. One of them involved a parody of a daytime interview show (for which, as it turns out, parody is redundant). The director left a camera and mike rolling during our setup and rehearsal, and it captured our thoughts and comments at the time. Some twenty years later we gathered for a reunion, and he played that tape, to our gleeful amusement. We were commenting on the goings on on the tape, and at one point several of us made a series comments that were echoed in the tape a few minutes later, twenty years prior, by the same people, pretty much verbatim.

Alas, nobody recorded that viewing session; it would have been amusing to watch us watch ourselves watching that original tape. And I'll bet that we'd each make the same comments, a few minutes earlier, years hence.

I was watching a youtube video copy of a Twitch stream, and I thought if a joke and saw that someone in the Twitch chat (which was part of the stream and thus part of the youtube video) made the same joke as me. So I was pleased that I was not alone in making that joke.

Then I noticed the joker's username was Eternal_density. Oh, I already watched it live and forgot about it, and made the same joke the first time.

Dear Eternal Density;
What is That Joke?

Please, tell us.
Will we need a class in advanced coding to understand it?

Let us be the judges of that.

I forgot already. Either just a nerd culture reference or a pun, or both. Actually I think it happened in two different videos.

Yeah. :D (And OTTers hold up the OTT, so they don't drift apart.)

That's a tough one. Let's see …

When I edit a post on the ЯOЯЯIM TTO, there are “<br/>” everywhere, where new lines should begin.
What would balthasar_s do?
It looks like a bug. He'd fix it.
I wish I could do that, too.
Hey, it's free software! You can do it!
Really?
Yeah.

Okay, so let's download the source …

Got it, probably.
preview.awk, line 68 reads:

Code: Select all

gsub(/<br>/,"\n",argtab["message"])
I guess that the pattern to be replaced should be “<br/>”, not “<br>”.

Okay, I don't know how to escape that in awk, and I cannot test it without setting up an ЯOЯЯIM TTO myself, but I think I did what I could.

Molpish. :) Thanks for the decree.

Yes,
the mirror, and the other interfaces share a lot of code. I made editing availabe in the Silent Chronotransponder. And because of that I added editing to the mirror. I copied the code. But the mirror uses xhtml (for ott compatibility). Everything else on my website uses html 4.01. I tested if the editing works. On a one-line-long post.

The changes have to be done to preview.1.awk, because preview.awk is autogenerated from it.
Before I released the source, I created the re.awk script. In it you define some things specific to your mirror.

Code: Select all

tmppath=   "/eizm/tmp/ottmirror"
   propath=   "/eizm/pro/ottmirror"

And the script inserts them to all the files that need it.

For example this in bot2.1.cpp

Code: Select all

###USERAGENT2

###ICT_ADDRESS
###OTT_ADDRESS
###FORA_ADDRESS

###LOG_PATH
###NP_PATH
###NP_PATH_1

###WGET_PATH
###MAWK_PATH
###RM_PATH
###AWK_LATEST
###AWK_LIST
###AWK_BOT2
###AWK_UPLOAD
###AWK_INDEX
Is replaced by this in bot2.cpp

Code: Select all

#define USERAGENT "bothasar_t (http://1190.bicyclesonthemoon.info/ott/; Time thread mirror bot)"

#define ICT_ADDRESS "http://forums.xkcd.com/viewforum.php?f=7"

Recently I made small changes to the mirror. I'll upload the new version of the source soon.

Thank you, rezilibaniatsuS!

ETA: The pattern, that matches "<br>", "<br/>" and "<br />" is "<br *\/?>"

ETA: And while fixing this mustard I detected another one - in all interfaces' versions of bb2html and also the Silent Chronotransponder's local preview script.
There was a
gsub(/\t/,"\\&nbsp;&nbsp;",tag)
instead of
gsub(/\t/,"\\&nbsp;\\&nbsp;",tag)

ETA: It's cool to see others finding ustard in my code that I didn't notice!

That's why the ongs stopped.
Because there was no 766.

Sorry.

I've nearly done that a few times myself. When I add to or edit the bOTTeriada queue, I have to be very careful not to m*stard up the sequence numbers. I eventually wrote a script to catch the more steambottlish possibilities.

Nice to hear from you, @ChronosDragon! (Even if only briefly). On behalf of Blitzers, thanks for keeping the Newpix-O-Meter an active part of the pastpages.

I like the way SilentBot's links go to ЯОЯЯІМ ТТО ƎНТ now. That's really classy.

The "Did you notice …" posts on the blue t1i viewer now come with time travel links.

They will be inserted once a day, at 4:33, so the latest frames may not have them.
