Owing to efficiency savings, summer will be reduced to three days in April. No one in the UK will notice that anything has changed.

What comics was that based off?

Well, there have been U.S. army posts in Germany, Italy, and Japan continuously since World War II. South Korea since the Korean War. Kuwait since the Gulf War. And while those are theoretically places that could get dangerous again (especially Korea), for the most part, according to everybody I've talked to (and the interwebs), they are all pretty safe places to be deployed. There may be a threat from the crazies in North Korea, but South Korea is still considered a safe enough place that when soldiers are deployed there, they get to take their families with them. Just like being on base at home at Fort Benning or Fort Hood. At this point, it's just a fact that we're going to have a continuous foothold in those countries. So, yes, in 5-15 years we will probably still have bases in Afghanistan (such as Bagram Airfield).

Absolutely, there are probably people based there whose grandparents were born after the end of WWII. But it'll still be a notable moment when the first person born post-9/11 is deployed to Afghanistan. And will definitely make me feel pretty old.

Love it!

Also, what’s the deal with people putting attached images twice in their posts, hiding the actual attachment in a spoiler? Makes little sense to me unless you’re aiming for very specific formatting.

It makes it so people can quote your post and have the image display in the quote. Attachments just show up in a quote as a file name.

^^ yes, that is why I did the redundant attachment thing. I know it means more work if you want to quote and not have the image get quoted too, it's a trade-off.

I think it became truly popular on these forums when the Time comic was still running. It wasn't out of the norm that the conversation would be a few pages on past the post you wanted to reply to, so including the image was usually desired to give better context to your reply. Some of us just continue to do it in other threads out of habit or a sense of forum etiquette.

It got a snicker out of me too.

I'm pretty sure I've explained redundant image linking in this thread already, though it was pages and months ago.
Anyhow, I find it looks better than just attaching the image.

What if the trolley carried only brown-eyed people except for one blue-eyed person who controlled a conveyor belt running in the opposite direction?
