Steakish. I like in particular that your version is more complete than GLR's one.

New what if

Oh and btw: I found my Beanie, so apparently I didn't give mine to HES to give to Yappo during the OTTerCon, contrary to what I claimed on the OTTerCönnchen.

I can't break out the punsaw or it would surely turn on its wielder. Then, its reins loosed, it would rampage throughout the OTT and Otherthreads like a rabid raptorcat, coloring everything a beautiful red.

Took me a minute to see what ED did there. :)

Loved that recent Drawception, game, BG, and all of the OTTerComics.

Congratulations, Neil!!

Wow, you xuys are awesomeful! Loved the OTTercomic, and the wingish "Tears in Heaven" and "Both Sides Now" ottities (not sure if I saw the latter when it was first posted.) And Sustainabilizer, I don't think I told you that I enjoyed your ottity of couple pages back.

I got a kick out of the discussion of mustard in the OTTercomic thread. No one there seemed too offended by the OTTish. Of course, there were several OTTers posting in the thread.

HES, have you and yappo met yet?

A decree for the decree: Suggestions on what organized sand I should get. I asked this before the OTTerCon, but ran out of time to shop and got an inexpensive Windows tablet for the conference. It didn't work all that well and I hate it. I use Apple stuff, but it's so ch*rping expensive. I might just bite the bullet and get a Macbook Air, because I want something really portable, but I wish it had an ethernet port. Or maybe I should just get some netbook? Oh, and I want to get it before WednesdipH, when I hop on a train to travel across the country. Help!

If you prefer Apple stuff but don't want to fork over too much money, you could try to get a second-hand Macbook. Alternatively, if you don't mind doing a bit of <computery stuff>, you could get a cheap netbook and install Linux on it; you can make that behave like Mac OS with a bit of configuration. Cuegandix is a bit short notice to do that, but at least it means you won't necessarily be left with another device you don't like.

I am an expert with the <computery stuff>[/sarcasm], and I've been wanting to check out this Linux stuff, but it's a bit foreign to me. And is there a certain kind of netbook I need to get? Can I use this tablet that I have, or can I not do it because it has Windows and will try to bite me if install another OS?

I was going to spoiler this for unrelatedness, but it is about my TimeAccessor. And of course, everything is related.

Yep. :) You can also set up a dual boot, where you can choose between Windows and Linux when booting.

Tablets can be a bit tricky; it really depends on the model. Historically, Linux on leopardless devices has been pretty tricky, and most distributions aren't really optimised for that yet. There are indeed some tricks Microsoft tends to employ to prevent people from installing other OSes on mobile devices, and I'm not exactly sure how to get around that. Most netbooks should work fine, but I'd recommend one with a CD drive. AFAIK Chromebooks are a bit tricky to get a proper Linux installation on. The closer to a classic laptop, the better, in terms of molpishness of installation.

I'm going to second the suggestions on organized sands. My lapleopard's screen is now showing all kinds of glitches, including fading changes in and out (the latter, never fully) and, coupled with its current use case (below), makes me want to get a desktop again.

I mostly use my computer to access the OTT and other islands, as well as non-CPU-intensive Python and JavaScript programming. Once every few days I (should) also use it to mine compile Chromium (the browser), which is a quite resource-intensive operation. Having never(^lie) built a timeacessor before, I'm particularly interested in which components I should pay more attention to and SSD suggestions (seems I'm late to that party, no?). Games are not much of a concern.

There are likely other threads I could post this to instead, but 1. this is home and 2. MTA.

Luckily I've got a new reading to pass the time with, just in time (no redundancy intended). By the way, have you been practicing your earthquake drills regularly, ggh?

IS IT CAN BE ONG TIEM NAO PLEES?

Postby lmjb1964 » Sat Aug 08, 2015 11:23 pm UTC

OMR, Jose, that Dr. Suess bit was perfect. Well, I might go back and fix it, but considering how long it took me to get around to making the changes I just made, it might be a while. :D

And yes, I thought, I should go and look for a post from Jose so I can find the Ecclesiastical Calendar, but I had opened up the post window in the same tab as I had the OTT open, so then I would have had to open up a new tab and find the OTT and find your sig and I was being lazy. I always mean to open the post window in a new tab so I can go back and look at things, but I pretty often forget to do it.

Off to see Mary Poppins tonight! The musical, that is, not the real person.? Or maybe I'll see the real person, who knows?

I think ggh is now out of the land of eathquakes. Plus we haven't had one in a while.

? Term used loosely.

I don't know if all browser have this, but if you right-click on your OTTab, you should find a 'duplicate' option. This will create a copy of the tab, so you can hit the back button and keep the post window open, at the same time 8-)

I don't know if all browser have this, but if you right-click on your OTTab, you should find a 'duplicate' option. This will create a copy of the tab, so you can hit the back button and keep the post window open, at the same time 8-)

Or, you can use Control-Back.

Outside has been being Outsidey, with m*stard. But, there is good Outside too, SWFP and GHW are coming for a visit.

I have 8.1 so I'll probably upgrade to 10 in a mip or two. I'm Waiting (for it) to see if others have any problems with installing the upgrade, and also to make sure I've backed everything up from this TimeAccessor in case of mustard.

Searches faster than 8.1, has a start menu that doesn't make the screen unusable for ages and comes with Edge for quick browsing. Overall, I like it.

yeah windows 10 seems pretty molpish overall, coming from 7. I wasn't a fan of my start menu being full of ads, but they were easy enough to do away with. It also seems to start up slower, but other than that it's alright, and directX12 will hopefully be useful someday.

Unfortunately the original image has ceased to exist. Good thing it's saved on the OTW.

From here

Interesting that the file id numbers are consecutive, but backwards. Time travel must have been an early part of Time.

Huh, that is epsilon. I don't understand what the file numbers are doing. *looks closer*

Ah. The attachment in the original post by Rule110 has a different file number, 36183. Jose, you must have re-uploaded it for your own post back then. This is probably because the original image in Rule110's post was an attachment module so the image didn't survive quoting, and this was back in the Dark Ages of Attachments before the redundancy of attachment modules was widely understood. So you uploaded your sequel manip and then also the original crossing manip for that post, causing the file numbers 36188 and 36189 respectively. That they were both attachments to that post can be confirmed by quoting that post.

So it wasn't Time travel, merely redundancy! - Image

redundancy is a form of time travel. It's just when the same time backs up, move slightly to the left or right or up or down or in front or behind itself and then continues along parallel.

The upgrade runs pretty smoothly (or if it doesn't, you can force it to quite easily). Didn't even have to reinstall anything. To be honest, its been out long enough that any serious mustard would have been discovered.

Just make sure to select custom rather than express when installing, else it will set unmolpish privacy settings and reset your file associations to m$ apps.

See, I knew someone would look here, even though I said "Nothing to see here."

Now I'm confused. I'm sure I have seen these images in your signature many Times. And now this is the redundant spoiler which holds them? They were loaded from the future (which is now our presentpast) all the Time? Baobabs – that's Time travel!

Just a hint: If you change your signature to point to http://forums.xkcd.com/download/file.php?id=49744&mode=view rather than to http://forums.xkcd.com/download/file.php?id=49744&t=1 the text will be a little more seaish and probably better readable. Can I use this tablet that I have, or can I not do it because it has Windows and will try to bite me if install another OS?

I've been mostly ninja'd by Link, but I'd like to add that you can boot most devices, including tables, from a USB data storage. (Sometimes, when Windows tries to bite you, it's tricky to activate this feature.)

So you can download a GNU/Linux image, put it on a USB stick, boot from that stick, and then try out a completely functional GNU/Linux system before installing from that stick.

This wip I found some articles in German mainstream :!: magazines (as opposed to geeky <computery stuff> magazines) whose titles translate to “Hello Windows 10 – Goodbye Privacy!” and “How To Protect Your Private Data in Windows 10”.

I always misread the (German version of the) title of the second one as “How To Protect Your Private Data Against Windows 10”. Fortunately that's easy for me, as I don't intend to use Windows 10 (or any other non-free software, for that matter).

The first one warns not only against Microsoft Windows, but also against Apple MacOS and Google Android, and recommends to switch to GNU/Linux if you care about privacy.

My parents use GNU/Linux. I installed it for them, and if they run into trouble I can help them via the Internet, without the need to drive there. Remote support is very stable under GNU/Linux.
