So we'll pan 27 pixels further in 12 frames, with a molpy in the second-last one.
Thus end the HiddenONGs?

Correct so far:

The pan will finish in 6 frames, going 6 more pixels to the right.

I just did and it still looks like gibberish to me.

Of course even when read forward, beanish looks like gibberish to me. So maybe someone who can at least recognize some of the characters should take a look at it that way.

I am worried even more by the lack of any celestial features now. I have realised that as by the first hidden ONGs the Strait should be in full sunlight.

If this city has a couple million people in it, as the degree of skyscrapers would seem to indicate, we'd be lucky to see the moon balthaskycircle for the light pollution.

THE MOST HATTED PART OF GOATING IS XIPS IN YOUR OTT

Postby NoMouse » Wed Sep 30, 2015 6:44 pm UTC

Even if there was no light pollution - try to take ordinary video camera at night and point so that half of the picture takes the sky and the other half something of medium brightness. You wouldn't see the stars on the camera even though you'll see them with naked eye. (That's also why there are no stars on the footage from the moon - there's no air, so light pollution is not an issue - it's all about exposure settingsc.) Of course this being in the future, their cameras may have higher dynamic range than today ones. Then it could be air pollution or it could have just storytelling reason - if there were stars, we could determine the date this is set ina; and it may be too soon to reveal this information.

cAlthough conspiracy theorists keep ignoring this fact
aAssuming they would be done with the same precision as GLR's stars

As true as this is, it should be daylight, not night. Remember the reflection of the sun in the ocean when we approached the bridge(?) the first time? According to the illumination it should be afternoon, maybe very early evening. There have been no clouds either in that area. Nevertheless it got very dark as the scene switched the first time.

It's a coloring book: color-by-number. If you pick lots of good colors, you get a pretty picture. Those are the hidden ONGs.

But if you pick only two colors, you can pass it off as an ordinary Time(afterTime)Frame. That's what the new mystery author did.

A clever OTTer was able to see the color-by numbers "under" the black (and white) regions, and saw that there were more than two different numbers. "What if we used more colors?"

The real trick to getting two good pictures is to use even more numbers. In this particular case (one image with (say) 80 colors, coexisting with another image with 2 colors, is to use 160 numbers. The first 80 numbers would be the regions where the b&w image was black, and the second 80 numbers would be where the b&w image was white. So, in the b&w image, 80 of the numbers would be black, and the other 80 would be white. But in the color image, there would be two different numbers that mean the same color (one with the secret black overlap, the other with the secret white overlap).

Try it with a real (paper) coloring book (or just a quick drawing). Draw two color-by-number images, one in B&W and the other in (four for simplicity) colors. Then put them one on top of the other and draw the resulting mishmash. Now, there will be regions where in one image it's black and in the other it's red. Call that "color #1". But where it' white in the first image and red in the second, call that "color #2". Etc:

red - black: 1
red - white: 2
blue - black: 3
blue - white: 4
green - black: 5
green - white: 6
yellow - black: 7
yellow - white: 8

Now, if you color the mishmash using the first column, you'll get your color image.
But if you color it using the second column, you'll get the B&W image.

Jose

See, this is one of the many reasons you xuys are so awesomeful. Instead of just saying, "Man, she is clueless," you take the time to explain things. I printed out some color-by-number pictures, but haven't had time to try the experiment. I do think it would be a cool thing to create coloring books that did that--cool idea, mrob!

Do you mean in this image? The scene certainly did get dark as soon as we hit frame 31. Maybe it's a solar eclipse.

What is that at the other end? I assumed it would be tied to that tree, but the first glimpse of the straight vertical line made me think some sort of pole was being used for support. But maybe it's just the tail end of the line hanging down? Is that tree looking familiar to anyone?

I hadn't noticed that one bright area in the hiddenONGs, at the bottom behind that short, squarish building. I wonder what that is.

prepare the skittle-trebuchet.

I Think there's still a good chance this scene is just normal nighttime, and there was just a time jump between the planetary zoom and the bridge scene. That or whoever made it didn't think about the implications of the sunlight on the 3d render. But that's heresy.

Try substituting "color slots" for data.
Either that or we've switched to "complete with zeroes" mode.

Internet points matter when you only get 15 million of them each day.

ETA: Original filename was broken again. Fixed now, but the balthabots still need to fix the ENHANCEd version.
ETA2: And they just did.

Lovely puzzle, balthasar_s.

On a slight tangent, I would like to offer two connect-the-dots puzzles by Bill Elder. I found them in the book William M. Gaines' Inside Mad, 1953, which I found in an antiquarian bookshop this summer.

Actually that was me, but it's an honor to be mistaken for mrob. :)

I blame my confusion on OTTing on my MTA's tiny screen. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. Great idea, ucim!

I have studiously avoided the spoilers for the balhacolorpuzzle because I fully intend to work on it tonight. Thank you, balthapal!

The new hiddenONG imagte is wowterful. Is that Beanish graffiti? This is cool and exciting and baobabs.

Don't know about that, but it caused some "I'm glad she asked, I was wondering that too."

Edit to herd the wayward bracket back into place.
