Current OtherComic.

I kept adding those links for the convenience of blitzers and ketchuppers, as well as out of a certain sense of tradition. Let me know if you feel like we don't need them.

I can imagine those two OTTifications on a continuous loop. A constant unplugging and plugging in of the Time generator.

What would it look like if newpix appeared a pixel at a time instead of by an hourly ONG? 218,435 pixels per newpix; about 61 pixels per second. Scanning top-to-bottom, left-to-right (like Viking), then a new column of pixels would take about 6½ seconds to appear; just to scan across Cueball in the current frame would take a minute and a half; the tree behind Megan would take about 7½ minutes.

BRACE YOURSELVES, ONGST IS COMING

Postby mrob27 » Thu Oct 15, 2015 3:40 pm UTC

@ZoomanSP, I also appreciate the reminders that there is a new xkcd comic, though I suppose if I weren't being notified by the OTT, I could find a substitute. There are several free services and add-ons for certain web browsers, that will generate an email or on-screen notification when the content of a URL changes.

I tweeted:

@snidesmin We miss you! Can you restore xkcd-time.kieryn.com and also fix robots.txt so the Wayback Machine can archive it for you? Thx!

And then I sent similar messages via YouTube and Google+. I'll have to hope Kieryn notices at least one of these.

Apparently Beanie Girl was streaking, since she didn't have her beanie on. She got to the stairs and was like, 'OMR! I'm naked!"

Please keep posting the OtherComic links. I would probably miss the comics otherwise. Plus it encourages OTTercomics.

And I'm so happy to have blitzreports to read! I think I need to go back and read those pages. I may have missed them the first time through, and I see lots of RAZOR stuff!

Epilogue Sequence Predictions 2016-2017

Postby hujackus » Fri Oct 16, 2015 12:11 am UTC

:D I have made some predictions for the Epilogue Sequence. :D Much of the work has already been done by mscha, ggh, slinches, mrob27 and others; and the most up-to-date theories can be found on xkcd.mscha.org/epilogue.html, but I took a crack at predicting the next two years of the sequence.

I'm terrible at explaining this so I'm just going to show two pictures and see if anyone in-the-know can understand.

Image 1: The general pattern. epilogue_patterns.png
Spoiler:
Image
Image 2: After sloshers have been applied. epilogue_predictions.png
Spoiler:
Image

In text form, I'm saying this. (Borrowing ggh's notation)

Code: Select all

Predicted 2016 Sequences
CBED CCAE AE DCAE CDBA BA EDBA
BCDE CDEA EA CDEA DEAB AB DEAB  Where the leading B is replaced with a D on the 11th-19th
EDCB AEDC DB AEDC BAED CC BAED
DEBC EACD BC EACD ABDE CD ABDE  Where the leading D is replaced with a C on the 30th

Predicted 2017 Sequences
DCAE CDBA BA CBED CCAE AE AECB
CDEA DEAB AB DCDE CDEA EA EABC   Where the leading C is replaced with a D on the 11th-19th
AEDC BAED CC EDCB AEDC DB CBAE
EACD ABDE CD CEBC EACD BC BCEA   Where the leading E is replaced with a C on the 30th

Now let's wait 11 wips or so to see if I'm right or have a lot of typos.

On GitHub, fully cloneable.
Running requires a Firebase account or a custom database REST API, though it's modular and can be easily adapted.
Also on GitHub.
Idem.

Perhaps we should have an aggregator of interesting repositories?

The wheelarm is heading leftwards in the background... Hadn't noticed that. Where's it going ?

Beanie elevator4! Does that mean the beanies are on the dam after all? And if so, how could the tree7,4 grow so big on it?

Good catch, and: no idea. Did it turn around the corner just now?

So now that we have both edges of the building/tower/castle/dam, it's ideal Time for stitching:

Seaish!

It is exactly 2000 px wide, and we are almost exactly 200 frames from the beginning. Will the scene change at t-1_0201?

Time. The final frontier. These are the voyages of Cueball and Megan. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.

It could also be a really big flower pot.
More seriously, from the look of it, the top is hollow, which could have filled with debris over the millennia. Maybe the top of the dam caved in ?

Looks like it did. Nothing else in the scene appears to have moved since 192. My bet would be that either the camera starts moving again, or the wheelstick is coming back with a pipe extension.

PreviewEdit : Steakish stitching, NoMouse !

Yes, great stitch NoMouse!

One thing that strikes me is the disparate technology of the Beanies and the color tank scene. I'm not sure they are happening at the same time and place. Even allowing for stick figure abstraction, Beanie tech seems post-apocalyptic, whereas the tank scene is pre-.

Dunno what to do about our link rot. I wonder if our basement has a secret exit. :(

And yes, OtherComic links are appreciated here too.

I wonder if the tank scene is apocalypse-causing. Well, I am not the first. But it must take at least some centuries for the Mediterranean (Ha! I finally learned to spell it!) to dry out, so it seems the tank story will be very, very, very long? Or maybe it ends with a quite unexpected apocalypse. Red aquatic spiders? Ballooning sharks?

FYI, STA DOA, PAYOR, HTBD, HANDTLA
It's hard typing on my MTA, so I'm going to keep this briefha. While the basement is still quite cozy, I've been keeping an eyeI on the ground floor, most notably the new ONGs. While I don't have much insight into the new story that hasn't already been posted2 repeatedly, I'm still watching, and still

Hopefully there will be many more interesting developments for the proto-beanies, as well as in the world of the hungry tank, condiment spider8, and wheeled arm.

p.p.p.s. Everyone seems to assume that the lower surface is water1190, but the surface doesn't change when the camera view is held constant. It certainly looks like water, but the lack of even the slightest ripple or change in the reflection, I'm starting to suspectbutler that maybe it's something else. Perhaps the tank is aware of this too, and is attempting to take a sample to figure out what that really is.

On the mirror the URL is like this:
http://1190.bicyclesonthemoon.info/ott/view?np=867&p=3384271#p3384271
The mirror accepts np, start, and p parameters.
p is ignored if there is np or start.
start is ignored if there is np.
So the p is redundant, but the mirror generates links with np and p anyway.

Before posting the blitzreport I change 1190.bicyclesonthemoon.info/ott/view to forums.xkcd.com/viewtopic.php in all post links
and the result is:
http://forums.xkcd.com/viewtopic.php?np=867&p=3384271#p3384271

the fora don't uderstand np and it's ignored.
