PSA: Some chirpingmustard.com sites may become temporarily unavailable later today as I try to get off CloudFlare.
Also, we have a position for Oh-My-Randall-AluisioASG-basemented-what-do-we-do-now open.

More things to come later. Maybe.

Decree: things that cause other things.

At the supermarket I send some signals over neurons. That caused me to take some things out of the shelves and bring them to the cash register. There the whole sequence caused me to be slightly indebted to the supermarket. That situation caused neurons in my brain to fire. Those neurons caused other neurons to fire. After a few of those it caused my muscles to contract. This caused me to pull out my wallet and pay the nice lady at the cash register.

For decree:

Douglas Adams wrote:Anything that happens, happens.
Anything that in happening, causes something else to happen, causes something else to happen.
Anything that in happening, causes itself to happen again, happens again.

It doesn’t necessarily do it in chronological order, though.

Alas, our favourite black substance seems to be the product of an immense tangle of interrelated processes. Beginning with stars, which caused (i.e., whose formation caused) sand, and somehow snow or ice, or perhaps the snow caused the waterw which caused the sand? It gets no simpler when we consider the babies and semenew (whose causality seems in a sort of chicken-and-egg relationship), which would seem to mutually pre-exist cancer (as @NB sort of didn't point out) — until you consider the fact that mutations (admittedly a rather loose interpretation of cancer) were necessary before either the semen or babies could arguably be said to exist. And do we mean coffee, or coffee?, and bacon or bacon?

Wowterfully RELATED Douglas Adams quote, @HES — and amazing that it has never been quoted in the OTT before!

ewDid you ever notice that "semen" is (not literally, but literallyL1) in the basement? I guess that gives us another reason to avoid the basement… since it seems we need more reasons.

L1literally: in a literalL2 manner.

The Straight of Gibraltar delivers quite a bit of water. It is basically the up scaled version of the lowest panel in the new othercomic.
Also, the quality is not up to standards for the Dutch tap water supply. It wouldn't even pass the Dutch laws and regulations for natural mineral water and those are far more flexible.

Yep, I remember seeing it in early 2014. Like most things of the draconic plane, it exists in probability. It sometimes goes away when you change your signature, and seems to eventually come back. I call it "Michael's tail", probably because the file is "michael-tail.png" :D, but also because:

Is "mineral water" salty?

No, as in it does not contain enough NaCl to be considered salt water, brine or even taste salty. Yes as in it contains various salts, same as all non-demineralised and non-destilled water does. Just more than tap water.

I prefer to live indoors, which causes me to have to pay rent, and I have a meowlpy, which causes me to have to buy food for her. This causes me to need to earn money, which causes me to find MFFS, which causes me to be at my MFFS and dealing with m*stard and not having time to comment on wowterful things in the OTT. :x I haven't even had a chance to read balthasar's newest awesomeful blitz report.

Thanks for the animation, mscha, those are incredibly helpful. And thanks for the century update, EoM! Nice to see that uptick.

So, Laura Mae, Google tells me that you work at a Modular Force Field System? That sounds very Star Trekish.

- We need more Modular Force, Lt Junebug!
- The System Field cannot take it anymore, Mr Spock.
- Well, just find a way, Lieutenant. And who told you that you could bring your feline symbiont onboard? That's not logical at all!

An alternative that google.se suggests is that you have a job in the Malmö soccer club, MFF.

mscha wrote:Not sure how that elevator works: it's going up in a different position (to the left) than where it went down. Did the whole installation move when they pulled on the rope?
I don't know about that; I suspect mustard artistic license. But your animation finally made me see something that has bothered me: what powers the elevator? It seems to be manual power: tall-Beanie cranks a handle round and round, and up they go. I hope xe is strong enough (well, they do have a counterweight).

So's the spaghetti. It was bright yellow for a moment as the camera moved around, but now they're grey (or gray, depending on where these ONGs are set). Angle of the lighting could do it, but this is more than what I'd expect for that. Maybe it's one of those special multi-color paints.

Whatever you want to call it, it is getting undermined quite rapidly. You could tell in 310 that there was something funny about the shape of the face in that spot where the chunk was blasted out.

Yeah, but it wasn't unknown to the Beanies - they built an elevator to the spot, with ropes and other stuff attached to the face, as if it were deliberate. And the flow was smooth, now it isn't.

If the Beanies were expecting doom (and monitoring), they are not being very Baobab by sticking around.

I perused 1.mirror's attachments folder to find a mod of the finished piece (by @ChronosDragon, I believe), but instead found some things I should never have uploaded in the first place—like this sketch. OTOH it seems my Process folder for these old commissions got dumped into Safe Storage, but in case it's not there either, it's good to know there are bits and pieces scattered around.

SPEAK SOFTLY AND CARRY AN AWEFULSOME TIMEFRAME

Postby mrob27 » Thu Nov 05, 2015 6:45 am UTC

I'm thinking the little splatterbot with the litmus strip is going to ride the conveyor belt as it extends out over the water, and stick the litmus strip into the water. They're trying to maintain water quality for the benefit of the local population of wild waterottermolpies. (Of course, keeping litmus strips out in the open wouldn't make sense, but who's worried about consistency? :D)

My collection of images is incomplete, and they're not all tagged. I was searching for files that have AluisioASG in the pathname and that show the whole dragon including the tail. That was the newest I could find with a tail; and indeed the tail is recognisably similar to michael-tail.png.

I perused 1.mirror's attachments folder to find a mod of the finished piece (by @ChronosDragon, I believe) […] I have no idea what this was about. But that's the avatar I was looking for.
That image was from me, OTT:1838:37 when I was demonstrating my modification of @Eternal Density's s/pony/leopard/g script into what became "We Love BANA-na-Yada". It turned our "I love BANANAS" taglines into something more OTTish, for use during Mod Madness 2014.

The avatar you show is one of the ones I uploaded in post OTT:1588:16 (it is attachment 41002) and it appears to be derived from the same artwork that was cropped for this image:

Image
Posted by @AluisioASG, OTT:834:23

which might be a portion of the finished piece you're referring to. But it seems that michael-tail.png would have come from a "white Michael dragon", a version of the same art before it was coloured in, and that is evident in this avatar:
