_BLITZ HARD 2: BLITZ HARDER_

Postby mrob27 » Wed Dec 02, 2015 8:23 pm UTC

lmjb1964 wrote:I'm trying to read Tall Bean's attitude in these panels. It seems that he didn't expect Short Bean to embrace him, since it took him a panel to hug her back. Then as she turned to run off, he still had his arms out in a sort of "Wait! Don't go!" pose. And now he's just standing there. I think Short Bean really took him by surprise.

It definitely looked that way to me too: unexpected, but willingly received. (I didn't find the proper word for it on the internets.)

REVEALERS THE RECENT ARE MOLPISH

Postby mrob27 » Thu Dec 03, 2015 1:35 am UTC

Thanks @ZoomanSP for the link to the Andy Weir thing.

If you like watching things go to spaaace, or experimental tests of general relativty, you might drop by the LISA Pathfinder site and join the video stream ("Ask Us Anything" starts in a couple nopix, launch countdown starts shortly after that. Launch presently scheduled for 2015 Dec 3rd 04:04:00 UTC.)

There's also the Orbital ATK OA-4 supply mission to the ISS, scheduled to launch later the same day (about 22:55 UTC).

So, is she going back to get her dilgunnerang? (Did I spell that right?) Is that what he meant when he said something about water? "Hey, don't forget your water bottle!"

In the hiddenONGs, what are those white dots to the right of the cartridges? They look to purposeful to be dithering artifacts.

I'm not sure. If you look carefully, there are others in the reflexions to the left of the cartridges. I'll be assuming mustard until proven otherwise.

In fact Short Bean always wanted to be a gymnast, but went into geology due to her parent's pressure. Since the berm is failing, and they probably won't make it, she decided to have a bit of fun before the end.

That makes sense. It goes along with her impulsive embrace of Tall Bean. Hey, if you're going to go, go out with a bang! So to speak.

If you're going to go, go out with a dilgunnerbang‽

RELATEDr to my long-delayed bOTTeriada writing, I've finally gotten around to decoding @AluisioASG's message from NP1625. There were later (and related) AASG messages, which @ggh and @jovialbard did a better job at decoding. I intentionally refrained from participating, because I had shared some ideas with @AluisioASG by PM while he was developing the cipher system. But it was fun to revisit the puzzle on my own, which I was able to solve partly, and then check my work by looking at those posts from the early NP1600's.

I don't understand. The Beanies don't seem to be in much of a hurry to get out of there. If the dam was going to blow, you'd think they send the message and ten haul ass to safer ground. Although, if there's going to be flooding, I guess maybe they're safer up high?

You helped Addams stay in her home, and gave her a better life. She thanks you, and so do I.

Time. The final frontier. These are the voyages of Cueball and Megan. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.

Not necessarily - the momentum of an entire sea flooding in would cause storm-surge-like effects, sort of the same way that fjords amplify tides. Although that would affect the eastern side of the Mediterranean more.

Good catch, NoMouse's Automatic Mustard Warning System Log!

Here's a seismanimation of the past 128 frames.
Image
There's also a molpy walking (or crawling) by!

ETA: and a slower one of the last 9 frames so you can really see what's going on.
Image
Note that when the m*st*ard is fixed in frame 476. the seismograph stands still for a frame. More m*st*rd, I guess...

Mustard Or Custard – That's The Question!

I'm not sure. If you look carefully, there are others in the reflexions to the left of the cartridges. I'll be assuming mustard until proven otherwise.

If it is mustard, it might be caused by our ENHANCing process. As a wild guess, maybe our palette is off by 1?

How much do we know about Beanish technology? Maybe it's no ordinary ink but something which SUSTAINed beyond the paper roll. When it finally fell down, the paper roll was so exhausted that it had to Wait For It for a newpix.

(Is this speculation ᘖᖗᑫᘝᐣᖽ enough?)

I'm betting on a last-minip RUN along the x (as in "xcape"v) axis, which (as was discussed earlier) has 0.5 dimensions and extends into m*stardspaaace in both directions orthogonally perpendicularish to the t-1-plane that we see.

Thanks for the AMWSL @NoMouse (and @mscha for ENHANCing/animating)

Great idea @Sustainabilizer, which I think we need to investigate… but I think it's pretty unlikely, simply because @balthasar_s and I both got the same result, using completely different software (I haven't been posting my images, but I sometimes compare them to those served up by the Moonbase).
First, I'll show the ENHANCEd versions of t-1_0479 (first the one by @balthasar_s, then the one by me) which I am uploading here as attachments to serve as a record of what they look like right now:
Image
t-1_0479 "enhanced" (palette remapped) by @balthasar_s

and a close-up of the m*stardy pixels:

some "mustard" pixels enlarged (@balthasar_s vs. @mrob27)

Next I'll show the output of my png-csum-fix tool with the options —show-contents —show-header —show-palette —show-text, which reveals a molpish amount of internal details:

   2    810  76032 IDAT

In particular, note that:
  • The palettes have the same checksum (121c4fdb), so @balthasar_s and I ended up with the same palettep
  • His version was generated by a different tool, as evidenced by its tEXt chunks containing such text as Generated by the Developer's Image Library (DevIL) and image data split up into 10 IDAT chunks
  • As seen above, both images have the same "mustard pixels"

I think it's pretty unlikely @balthasar_s and I would end up with the same "m*stard pixels" after employing different software for the same problem… but if so, this post will (hopefully) help suggest where to investgate further.

I had a dream of ggh. I don't remember all details.
(I don't know what ggh really looks like.)

We tried do debug something together. Some software? And to make changes in it.
And also to dance but we weren't good at it.

ETA: I also remember that I tried to tell her my previous dream from the same night.
I don't remember it even more. It was something about me, my dad, buying things, some hand injury, climbing fences in Germany, some epsilonish concert in a park at the town walls and some politicians.

Nice OTTerComic Sustainibilizer! I hope that the Forty don't have to gnaw any questionable carcasses - at least, not Cuegan. The Bangs Brothers maybe....

Since that etymologically horrible Alanis Morissette song, I try to be really careful using the word "ironic". I can't quite decide if its use is appropriate in this case, referring to Zooman not having posted this OtherComic. And ironic or not, Zooman, do you need a hug?

The video from (Desert Bus 9) features a relaxed ("soothing" only in comparison to something else, perhaps the rest of DB9) reading of some lyrics by a United States "pro wrestler" who is also a rap musician. As there is nothing particularly unbelievable about the original, nor its lyrics, nor the fact that they can be read "soothingly"… I guess I must be missing something Image
I'm appallingly lazy. If I weren't, I might have typed a few more words, like "without cracking up" (due to everything lmjb said). Also, I'm not so good at not cracking up, so perhaps saying that there was no way I could have completed that task would have been more accurate that claiming an inability to believe that a professional had managed it.

I'm not sure. If you look carefully, there are others in the reflections to the left of the cartridges. I'll be assuming mustard until proven otherwise.
I'm willing to believe that those little guys dancing around there are dithering artifacts, or possibly the result of something bright and small being reflected.

Those other dots though... the ones previously pointed out... I do not believe those are dithering artifacts. All the other dither-dots jump around, but those stay locked in screen space. And they're limited to the grey sides of that lifty part, which would be odd for image-processing mustard. I can think of two mustards offhand that have a similar flavour: frozen-map mustard and thin-alpha mustard.

Frozen-map mustard is a rendering condiment providing spice for prebaked goods, where a reflection map, shadow map, occlusion map, specular map, texture map or some other map is prebaked and used as an ingredient for the finished dish. Now let's say such a map is meant to be animated (say, the spec is computed for each frame), but instead, the same frame keeps being used - then some static mustard would cling in screen space over an surface moving in screen space. That could happen with maps that are meant to be static too if their attachment is broken. Many maps listen to Paul Simon, so this happens a lot.

Thin-alpha mustard is a compositing topping that gives a bit of underlying flavour when the sauce on the main dish is too thin. If the final image is arrived at by compositing elements over each other, and if some operation artificially fades a part of the foreground's alpha, then you can see through to whatever is layered underneath. It's easy enough to apply this kind of mustard if you're keymixing elements in, or if you're modifying elements by noise to increase realism or decrease mach banding and the alpha gets zapped as well as the RGB channels. This kind of mustard is more likely to reveal bright bits than dark ones due to the nature of the beast.

I'm suspecting map-mustard because the part that's affected appears grey - as in default model grey, also as in Grey Poupon, the Canonical Mother of our Mustards, as in IT'S ALL RELATED.

How much do we know about Beanish technology? Maybe it's no ordinary ink but something which SUSTAINed beyond the paper roll. When it finally fell down, the paper roll was so exhausted that it had to Wait For It for a newpix.

Wow - I like this a lot. I can imagine these things happening just as you say. :)
I had an elaborate dream last night mostly about paint (although the hand injury thing seems strangely familiar). I think I was in charge of, or had something to do with, some machine or process that did painting. Some car panels had to be painted, though I don't recall seeing the cars themselves, just the 3D models of the panels. And then there was some chemical anomaly with the paint, which the narrator of my dream explained wouldn't cause a real problem but would... I didn't catch the rest of what he said, but then when the carrots that my associate put through the paint process came out, they were all sparkly and everyone loved them. I don't remember the rest.

But... I should have dreamt of you. You were on my mind because I finally downloaded the images from my camera and there were some photos I was looking forward to posting here.
