When falls the Coliseum, Rome shall fall; And when Rome falls--the World.
Welcome to Morituri, where we will have two groups of players: the gladiators, and the audience of the Coliseum. You can choose to play as a gladiator, as someone in the audience, or both. The role of someone in the audience is simple: place bets on the match and earn money, or just enjoy the show! The gladiators will try to earn their freedom.
-Start with 10 coins. Bet on the outcome of a gladiator match. If you're out of coins you can start over. Betting on the underdog is risky but can earn you more coins.
-When someone loses a match without dying, you can influence whether they should still die or whether they fought with honour and deserve another chance to live.
-When you join:
-Spend 5 points in the three different stats (see next spoiler).
-Choose your equipment (see last spoiler).
Please put this information in a spoiler. You are allowed to read other spoilers.
These are based on three stats:
-Strength: Brute force and stamina. Makes it easier to kill someone, makes it harder to be killed.
-Skill: Gives more control. Makes it slightly easier to kill someone, makes it harder to be killed. Makes it easier to win without killing, makes it harder for your opponent to win without killing.
-Style: Win the hearts of the people. Gives a higher reward if you win, and increases your chances of survival if you lose without dying.
Each match will be a simulation done by me and an ancient Roman random number generator, where your odds are determined by your stats.
Gain 2 stat points after each fight if you win, 1 if you lose but survive. The first is increased by 1 point for each style point you have.
If you die, you can just make a new character.
When you reach 25 stat points, you have earned your freedom!
-Dagger: -1 strength, +1 skill, +1 style, another +1 style if you don't use a Shield
-Short Sword: +1 strength, +1 skill, -1 style, another +1 strength against Dagger
-Long Sword (2 handed): +2 strength, +1 style
-Spear: +2 skill, -1 style, another +1 strength against Long Sword
-Battle Axe (2 handed): +3 strength, -1 skill, and another +1 strength against Shield
-Trident + Net (2 handed): -1 strength, +1 skill and +2 style, and another +2 skill if you have at least twice your opponent's skill (without equipment modifications)
-Shield: -10% chance to die in combat (does not stack)
You can change your equipment after each fight, but not after your third fight and onward, and also not if your match has been announced. I will decide who fights whom, and when.
Morituri te salutamus!
