Any good ideas?

Factorio. Although its in Alpha, its extremely high quality, one of the best "Alpha" versions of a game I've ever played.

I can also concur with Valkyria Chronicles. Its got puzzle / tactics elements and RPG elements. Crazy anime-style plotline and a unique artstyle (including awful, awful ragdoll physics but at least they're funny)
First Strike +1/+1 and Indestructible.

I can second (or third) the talos principle. It really had a portal feel as it's a puzzle game with a story behind it. It's a different kind of story with a more philosophical flavor. I really enjoyed it.

I also enjoyed exploring abzu.

Regarding The Witness (haven't played the other ones), I will mention people feeling slightly noxious after playing it for very short periods of time is common. I experienced that too, as did my husband just from watching me play. I'm not sure what the deal is, but I ended up returning my game to the Steam store. The puzzles were good.

Oh, but the previous game by the same developer is fantastic (albeit short) - Braid.

Edit: Steam store, not Amazon store. Not sure where my head was. Irrelevant anyway.

Yeah, Braid is a pretty great puzzle-platformer - one of those games that if you haven't played, you should.

Take a look at quantum conundrum. Uses different dimensional shifting with different properties to solve puzzles.

So I find that I like Fallout 4, but want a game that focuses more on the city-building aspect. What post-apocalyptic city-builders are there?

Endciv has been abandoned
Atomic Society looks cool but not even in Alpha till next you

EDIT: Trying out Atomic Society, let me know if you know of others

That's a bit of a broad question, isn't it?

I've been thinking of ROM Check Fail lately. Dang, but that's a fun game.

I hear OFF, made in RPG Maker, is really weird.

Ben There, Dan That is a free point-and-click game. There's a sequel which costs a pittance.

Doki Doki Literature Club is free and easily available on Steam, and is much better than you'd immediately think from the name and presentation and apparent genre.

Maybe I asked this already, but I am looking for a turn based strategy game to play while working out. I am doing Civ 5 right now, which works really well. Action/platformer games do not. So something turn based. I have tried other 4x games, but they didn't work that well. The Endless series...there's just something off about them that I don't like. Space and Legend both seem to have a similar problem - I'm building an empire, making armies, exploring, then all of a sudden an opponent is close to winning due to gold. Seems like I usually haven't even found that civ's lands. Legend also just felt like it had pacing issues. There were all these neat resources, but you really needed a big army to just suppress the barbarians. Space has a really cool tech tree, but end game didn't do much for me.

Ok, that's more of a rant about that series. Any recommendations for a game to play while I'm on an elliptical?

None of the new ones. Played the hell out of the original.

From what I understand they're pretty different from the original. I enjoyed both of the recent games a lot.

Another option - Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions is available for both iOS and Android on tablets. It's a fantastic game with wonderful music and storyline, the new translation is vastly superior to the original, and you can play it for a very very long time.

My only experience with Final Fantasy was 13, and it completely turned me off.

Final Fantasy games are almost entirely unrelated to each other (they have recurring items/spells/monsters, that sort of stuff). Final Fantasy Tactics, as an outlier to the main series (doesn't have a number) is even more unusual. It's a turn-based tactical strategy game with massive character customization (each character can have a primary and secondary class, and additional special movement/counter/peripheral abilities, out of ~20 classes). It's set in a classic fantasy world with very limited technology. The story revolves around a political plot and war between two rivaling nations.

I would really not set my expectations of that game based on FF XIII. If you're still not into it, you don't need to play it of course, but I think you're missing out. It's not very expensive at $12, either.

I might check it out. I also just realized I might be able to get an emulator set up.

If so, I am going to play the hell out of Dragon Warrior!

Yeah, the original is a lot more simulation while the remakes are a lot more "gamey" - for instance, in the original, the rank structure is based on the number of active soldiers - every so-many soldiers means the game looks to promote a sergeant, so many more, and a captain, so many more and a colonel, and with enough total, someone gets promoted to commander. Meanwhile, soldiers improve various stats just by using them, independent of their rank. In the reboot, rank is just straight character level, and you can have 6 colonels with no other troops.

That's just one example of many - in the original, you could dig into why things happened the way they did, and there'd be game logic behind it that could be manipulated; in the reboot, most things happen the way they do because they're hard-coded that way.

That's not to say that every change is bad, or that the reboot is automatically a worse game because of the changes, just that if you go into it hoping to be able to dig deep, you'll be disappointed.

I recommend the game Xenosaga. The two main women are... so. hot hot. And one's a robot and one's a scientist. It has a lot of dialogue yet it's worth it. You can fight with a party of girls, boys, men and giant robots. The giant robots fight separately from the people and you can upgrade and take care of their armor and weapons. The battles are fairly standard turn based fare yet I like turn based RPGs. And it talks about android/gynoid rights, the nature of religious stuffs, whether robots have consciousness or are just pretty pretty submissive dolly girls and has cray-cray monsters that appear out of the aether and stab your parties' faces off.

I have a friend who hates shooters because he is bad at it, but he is kind of enjoying the fortnite Battle Royale.

So I'm looking for a multiplayer or co-op only game where we won't get griefed or dealing with 'bunny hoppers' -- Survival/Building/Shooter game.

I found Rush, State of Decay, Life is Feudal, Ark: Survival but none of them feel just right, but I haven't played any of these yet.

So if you know of any game where you forage/build/fight (preferably realistic graphics, but not a requirement) and you don't have to worry about other RL players ruining it for you, let me know.

Does it have to be a shooter? I hear Don't Starve Together is pretty neat for co-op.

Seven Days To Die might be up your alley. Not sure what its current status is, though, I think it was still in Early Access when I last checked.

Not quite the genre you're looking for, but Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes is a fantastic co-op game.
