i'm a gallente jack of all trades. I'm training an alt miner, will be hulk capable around mid-feb, will then start training an all combat minmatar pilot. Any feelings on what race has the best combat?
I feel that minmatar have poor capital ships, and as such, overcompensate on things like their HACs and battleships.
Amarr are strong, but lack the flexibility I see in caldari and minmatar
Caldari are strong but are easy to predict. I view them as better PvE ships.
Gallente ftw.I just want something new.

Gallente have been spanked with the nerf bat recently so i wouldnt look to them for pvp dominance any more.

Caldari are fucking awsome at pvp now, best EWAR hands down, best BS sized dps dealer etc etc

Minmitar are still solo pwn, Rapier cant realy be beat but they are going to get nerfed one day

Personally i would train Amarr cause they fit my play style and they are unlikely to be changed for the worse. Also they are an easy race to cross train from gallente to .

Some heavy hitters in gallente have been hit to be sure (Myrmidon and Eos...? Why'd they take my mighty mymidon?!), but I still think damping is more powerful then ECMing.

Minmatar aren't so hot at group tactics then eh?

... So seeing as that it was a question, can you provide an explination? Are minmatar fantastic at solo pwnage as well as rocking the casbah on group activities?

First comes to mind is the vagabond being unstoppable vs one of anything thats not a cap ship.

Minys also have very good gang ships, im just saying they realy shine in solo aswell. The huggin for example is an awsome gang ship.

problem is most minmitar ships rely on speed for their tank and arnt known for their dps or tanks for the most part which means they often have little to offer a gang.

And damps arnt nearly as powerful as ECM, it takes around 4 damps to *shut down* a BS atm and a Rook can remove a BS from a fight with 2 ECM.

Also ECM have the highest range, damps would be good in a fleet situation if they could actually reach far enough, as it is they are forced to fight in falloff in fleets which means damps are chance based/worse than ECM

An arazu at equal distance (lets say 60-80km for sake of distance and recon bonuses here) with two sensor damps could make a battleship unable to target it. And its not chance based. The 7 mids of a rook could certainly do the same.

My dad downloaded an EVE trial. Being a WoW player, at first glance it didn't seem very attractive (but that's only because of the lack of "Yay! Scenery and bright colours!", and a tricky-looking interface). After reading up a bit more about it, I'm interested in giving it a shot (although I'll wait until I've finished leveling to 70 on WoW first and had some fun with that - the last thing I want is to be addicted to two MMOs at once! ><).

What I like is that from what I gather there is no real cap on how far you can go if you put in the time and effort. And the enormity of the universe - and the ships. I saw on Wikipedia a picture comparing ship sizes. The beginner ones, which look rather cool in game - about one pixel in size compared to these enormous motherships. Joining a corp also sounds fun - and the enormity of things to do. And the fact that absolutely everyone is in the same world (not different realms like in WoW) and the no-rules PvP. I could get reeeally addicted! ^^;;

But like I said, I'll finish with WoW first...

EvE doesn't punish you for bad training the same way every other MMO aside from Tabula Rasa does. And Tabula Rasa solves the problem by letting you effectively reroll your character with full xp. In Eve, if you train the wrong skill, all you've wasted is time, but you still have the skill, so its probably not a total waste.

Is anyone interested in getting an xkcd mining/ratting/missioning event together?

And EVE is fantastic but will never be as imediatly accesible as WOW or its clones.

And with the arazu if you lock down a BS at 60km or so with 2 damps the BS will either
A: Warp off if you have no one tackling it sub 24km
B: Be able to shrug off the damps and engage the portion of your gang who is close to it

And any ship could sit at 60km and be un lockable by a BS if it had 2 damps

How about a frig/cruiser/bs tourny? My corp has these monthly and their heaps of fun. An xkcd bash of brawn and blasters!

Well, if the BS was ECMed at distance it would still warp off. Or, it could merely wait for a window when the ECMs didn't work, and turn its brunt on the rook. A single ECCM potentially renders the Rook ineffectual, or only partially ineffectual.
So the distances that would apply for a sensor booster would be for sniping, and as such, out of both an arazu's and rook's range anyhow.

I'm not saying ECM sucks, i'm just not convinced it rocks the day.

The point is that if you use EWAR at range to disable a target ( a sensible tactic given how weak EWAR boats are) you are going to need someone close enough to tackle. With ECM with your 2 ECM slapped on the target range is going to make no difference, they are gimped 24/7 even if you are hull to hull.

With damps woohoo they cant lock the EWAR ship but all of your friends who have to get close are going to experience no nice effects so you have to use atleast 4 damps on a BS realisitcally

Yes Yes Yes.

I'm in as Caldari, got a beautiful long-range destroyer (38km). I've not really got a specialty just yet (I've only been in for two weeks), but I'm working towards manufacture/invention. The latter will take me ages though, so I'm pretty much just doing NPC agent missions to kill time and upgrade my equipment.

The best part is, at least half the guys on my robotics course are on EVE as well, which leads to some incredibly nerdy and drawn out conversations about tactics and good mining spots and so forth. Lovin' it

I also feel the need to briefly brag about my hit&run type Condor, which I've managed to boost to over 2500ms^-1.

Is there some kind of Xkcd corp out there? Cause if not, somebody should make one. I'd probably start playing again to join it. For me EVE was always more like a chat program with spaceships than anythign else (mining's not very exiting and I'm not a pirate type of guy, altho strangely enough some of the best people I've met in EVE were miner-ganking pirate bastards

). Quess it would be a lot different in a good corp or alliance but those are pretty hard to get into.

I know enough about them and i dont understand why they were added to the game tbh but they are nice ships

Im assuming you are going for the Phobos and that thing can get a redicoulous tank, something akin to a Cmd ship.

However i cant see the appeal for anything other than camping and Cap ship hunting, the dps isnt good enough (with the phobos atleast) to put out any kind of damage so i cant see what id use it for.

What use are you going to put it to?

I was thinking of using it as a gate camper. The warp disruption sphere thingy that it uses is a high slot, which strikes me as being more conducive towards keeping a tank up. I don't have t2 medium hybrids trained, but all the other gunnery skills are at 4... I'm really surprised to see its got no drone space though!

My question is whats the deal with the focused disruption field? It can scram cap ships, cool, but I see no warp strength value for it. Is it an instant and total scram? Whats the deal with that af/mwd penalty? Should I just stick to my arazu or an ishtar for gate camping?

well it effectivly has an infinate warp scram strength as no one can fit 100 warp core stabs.

Its not fast with it on but thats not an issue for either cap ships or camping. Cap ships cant outrun you and in a camp you dont need to keep up because you friends can tackle the prey

A friend (someone who used to be OBSESSED with games, like reviewed games for swag, moderated all sorts of forums on gaming sites, etc) plays EVE (last thing he really plays) and keeps telling me to get on the bandwagon. The laptop I'm on won't run it, probs, but when I come home after university is over in april and build a new gaming rig I'm going to jump right in. If there's an XKCD corp I'd love to be a part of that.

Why, I've built up some pretty cool assets with my corp mates. Robbing them blind would serve no purpose, as I'd rob myself of a production asset, protection backing, and a handful of cool people.

I was in a crappy corp earlier with a friend who's saving towards having two faction decked motherships, where all we did was grind invention and build hulks. When I decided to leave, I was looking at one of the corp hangers, at about 10 bil worth of stuff, and considering. I didn't steal anything. There are better ways to make your fortune then at backstabbing those who trust you.

In a game like eve where making a new character could take years its not worth trashing your rep for nothing. If you can afford alts or dont care about your rep then go for it but news travels fast when it comes to corp theivery.

Big scale heists are best handled by specialised cells of people who can infiltrate every level of a corp if you want to make serious isk.

And you also will want to find the right target

I started a trial of EVE this evening, and I'm really enjoying it! I truly get the sense that I haven't even scratched the surface. I really like the economy in it, too. I would like to see what player-controlled corps are like, so send me a message.

Now that I've quit Eve, I hope someone will pick up the reigns on my project: Trying to fit a cruiser-class afterburner to a tech 1 minmatar frigate.

Someone told me it would be really hard, but not impossible, and that was all I needed to hear. Too bad I never finished it - it would have been pretty useless, but it would increase my e-peen by about 2 feet.

I saw a vagabond with a battleship mwd fit. It was moving... fast. Like, a sizable percentage of the speed of light fast. Sadly, there was no time dilation or doppler shifting.

It also couldn't fit anything but the mwd, and could only sustain it for maybe 2-3 cycles. Still... It was fast. Like... wow.
