RULES

Spoiler:
you move around in a text adventure style. i shall discribe rooms and what is happning
casting spells cost one mana, if you run out of mana you pass out and need to be revived(this cost another player a go).
fighting is simple, if you have 3 attacks you roll 3 dice, 1,2,3 is a hit, 4,5,6 is a miss
defending is the same 2 defence = 2 dice,
---for heros 1,2,3,4, you take a hit, 5,6 you save.
---for monsters, 1,2,3,4,5 its hit, 6 its saved.
you move and then fight one per turn.
the turns are taken HEROS,GAMESMASTER,HEROS,GAMESMASTER ETC
Heros fight first in new rooms unless otherwise stated.
potions are a quick item and may be taken at any time within reason. (if you are hit you must make saves before drinking a potion)
You may search the room once the monsters are dead, roll a die, on a 1 you spring a trap and have to roll defence.
to stop us getting stuck, if you are idle for to long you are passed by, as if you are out of range of fighting.

If this gets off the ground I'll join up as the dark elf. That map looks a lot like the Heroquest board game. Not saying that's a bad thing, because I have wasted many an afternoon playing it. :)

OK this is the first part of the intro to the Quest and general story

Quest 1 - The missing apprentice (pt. 1)

It is a dark and blustery night. Four figures wrapped tight against the cold make their way in to the town of Coral. A town built with a high wall on three sides and flush with the beach to the south. Wave’s crash ashore, mixed in with the cracks and rumbles of thunder.
The rain lashes in waves against their cloaks, driven by a shrieking wind. The mysterious figures push on into the town, arriving at a small old building with an ancient thatched roof. A sign swings on its hinges next to the door.
“The Adventurers Inn”

As they walk into the Inn and shrug off their cloaks, shaking the rain off as they go.
There was a human warrior, strong and fast, a dwarf short but powerful and quick, a mage tall with an air of power, and a dark elf slender with finesse.
They all sat at the bar un-knowing that they were being watched. A man sat in a corner of the Inn, is face covered by the darkness of the room. Watching them at the bar he takes in another drag on his pipe, blowing the smoke into the room, as the evening draws on and the smoke curls up into the rafters, the customers slowly leave, only the man in the corner and the visitors remain.

Re: Heroquest style RPG (quest initializing)

After a short amount of time passes the stranger walks over to the visitors and speaks to them.
“You…” he stammers “you are Adventurers, am I correct” He walks closer to the adventurers “I… I need your help, my apprentice has gone missing. He went missing about three days ago. I fear he has been taken by evil creatures of darkness.” He stumbles forward and leans on the bar. “I have something that you must see, follow me to my house.”

All five ventured out into the night, the wind had died down and the thunder passed. They arrived at a small house just inside the northern borders of the town. They follow the man inside, it was as small inside as it looked outside but was warm. The walls where filled with books. Almost every wall was covered in books.
The old man walks over to a book shelf and removes one of the books and places it on a table.
“This book is a gateway to where my apprentice has gone. It is one of the dark underground lairs of the trolls kingdom” he opens it, all the pages are blank but one it ahs an image on it that almos looks alive. The adventures move around the table to get a better look. The flames on the page are flickering.

“Here is one thousand gold for you to buy what ever provisions you need” he said, handing over a small leather pouch. “buy what you need and meet me back here in the morning”

Looks interesting (but I have no idea what heroquest is.)
I was thinking of either meditating or napping, but the way I do it, there's not much difference except in the explanation to the rest of my family.

Quest 1 - The missing apprentice (pt. 1) (cont)

You return to the house, the man is bent over a book.
“Here,” he croaks “this is a linking book; it shall take you to the dangerous land, the one that I believe my apprentice has been taken to.”
If you can find him and bring him back I would be very grateful and the rewards would be substantial.”
He walks over to a book shelf and pulls out a leather bound book, he hands it to you.
“This is the book you require to return safely back here. Do not lose it or you shall have to find another way back.”
The man moves slowly to one of the chairs around the table and sits down heavily.
“All you need to do is touch the book and you shall be transported to the place my apprentice has been taken.” He paused for a brief moment “please be quick as it has already been some time since he vanished.”

((sorry for the late post the internet has been down at home and I have been house hunting, but as now both are sorted I can devote a little more time o this thread))

the room was empty now apart from the old man.
he picked up the book and closed it.
"I hope to see you again" he mubles

The adventures appere in a dark and dank smelling room, the only light is from the few torches that are dotted around the wall of the room. the walls are all solid stone work, and the floor is created from heavy slabs. In the corner of the room lay the reminants of a skeleton.
There is a door to the north.
