Hmm... we were discussing the structural weakness of jelly after you left. Ordinarily, it would split very easily; I'm not sure what effect pouring it into a balloon might have, particularly since the mixture is meant to be hot when it is made up. It's definitely a possibility worth considering, though.

Experimentation is sure to produce the perfect temperature at which it is still viscous enough to pour through a funnel, but cool enough to be successfully put in a balloon. For science!

After the meetup me and robin bought yet more jelly, we will soon have enough to make a blob of jelly shaped like a human, if we don't already. I haven't thought through why that is a useful measure.

Just let me know when the next one is and I'll try and be there.

With that quantity of jelly you could buy some sausage skin and sew it into a human shape, fill it with jelly and pigs organs and hook it up to the mains to see if you can create some sort of jelly golem/homunculus. If it did come alive, at least if it tried to rampage you could defeat it with a mob of hungry people, which is easier to find these days than an angry mob with pitchforks.

Gah, I can't believe I missed this thread...

Are you planning any more meetings at one of those pubs?

Sign us in to the Waterfront. Best student bar in London. Not my words - Time Out's. Or if you could meet up at the front and lead people through the winding corridors to the Macadam building so they can get in the Waterfront without a student card.

The Waterfront it is!
I can do even better than just take you through the winding stairs and passages: I can take you in through a service entrance that is very rarely used, which makes it even more fun and mysterious =)

So when do you want to meet up? I can probably do any evening this coming week from Wednessday and onwards.

Oh, and we must buy curly fries. Mmmm, curly fries...

So, just to be sure, is electoralfraud, RobinS and ronnie ok with me posting that photo on the intawebs? Be warned, I may still take my face out; I am really quite fond of the anonimity thing. Don't know yet.

I'm ok with it. I'll try to ask ronnie later today.

It occurs to me that taking your face out sort of defeats the purpose of posting a photo, so perhaps if you don't feel comfortable about it you should just leave it altogether.

I thought I'd posted a comment about how divine Waterfront curly fries really are. I think I started the reply, and then fell into a curly-fry induced trance. I awoke several hours later, surrounded by a pool of saliva.

Next week? Wednesday? If we can't get into the Waterfront, there's always the Knight's Templar (Wetherspoons) on Chancery Lane (3 mins walk) or the Cheshire Cheese/Tipperary (additional 1 minute's walk). Thoughts?

I'm pretty much free this evening, apart from hearing the Passion of St. John, but we can go for Wednesday next week as you say.
That's the last chance before Easter though . I'll be flying home on Thursday of Friday, if I remember correctly.

Unfortunately I can't make this evening, but next wednesday sounds good. Will that be at the waterfront? I agree about the curly fries (but with cheese as well) - they are pretty damn tasty there, although that could just be the combined effects of alcohol and altitude.

Nice photomograph. Was that taken inside Ye Olde Chuck E Cheeze?
Also, you should label the characters, so at the next meeting, I can call you all by your code-names.

The pictorial has now been edited for labelage; and yes, taken inside Ye Old Musty Cheddar. Lovely pub. Found their own brand premium lager rather excellent.

Right, Wednesday it is.
When would you like to meet up?
Also, in case someone doesn't know: The closest tube station is Temple, where you can catch trains on the district- and circle-line. (Unless you count the closed down tube station that is a part of the college. Aldwych I believe.)

Right, we are getting close to Wednesday now.
I'll be packing my bags and finishing a labreport during the day but afternoon/evening is reserved for the meeting.
The Waterfront won't be a problem to get into, so we can start out by going there.
If we meet somewhere close to King's I can take you in by the, er, interesting route for some sight-seeing.
I don't have any boardgames but I could bring a stack of blank cards and pens for some 10,000-cards fun. Drawing our own of course. http://forums.xkcd.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=16373

All we need is a time to meet up.
I'm going to throw out a question: Before or after dinner?

If we meet before dinner, we could have dinner together (presumably, though not necessarily, in the pub itself).

I am free all day. ronnie and I will probably be meeting at or before lunchtime, and anyone else who wants to meet up from then onwards should be welcome to.

Hey. Been keeping an eye on the thread but can't do this Wednesday, unfortunately. I am way behind schedule on some studying I have to do and it's freaking me out; I am not going out until 28 April unless for very special occassions (and you lot are rather special, not very special, I'm afraid :) ). Won't be able to keep me from coming out after that though.

All posts are works in progress. If I posted something within the last hour, chances are I'm still editing it.

Right, I'll just be at King's a bit before 4pm and see who turns up.
Just step in through the main doors (on the Strand) and have a look around in the lobby.
I'll have something looking like a red spider visible so you can recognise me. (My backup plan is to just draw one.)

Also if you ask me for the time I'll answer "Zeppelin", just in case you suspect an impostor.

Oh, hmmm, natch. I'm meeting a guy in Richmond after work, at like 6.30. I'll probably only stay with him for a bite t'eat and a swift pint (invariably: 3 swift pints, each one swifter than the last) but then I guess I could try making my way back up t'Aldwych. That won't be til I'm guessing 8ish, which seems a bit late, as it'll take me 1 1/2 hours to get home from King's and I have to get up at 6 tmrw.

I didn't know they even made a 6 o'clock in the morning.

I will lurk until such time as that becomes viable. Commencing savage lurkery.

My number is still in this post, for anyone who wants to contact me. I'll try to be at King's for four, or shortly after (alternatively, ronnie is meeting me soon near Imperial, so we could meet up there instead - I haven't yet found out where the Waterfront is, so King's might be more convenient).

Would anyone care to try and meet up for a few drinks on thursday? It's my birthday on friday and I also just won the premium bonds (lower tiers), so somewhat of a double celebration.

Did you guys go to the waterfront in the end? What did everyone (non-KCL) think of the place? I think some charm has been lost since it was redecorated perhaps. Still, good curly fries and cheese; and at least it isn't guy's bar. Did you end up taking the grand tour? lol.

In the end only three people turned up, so we stayed at Imperial until the evening and then went back to my halls for pizza and assorted snacky foods. The Waterfront will have to feature in a future meetup.

There is a small chance I might be able to meet up this Thursday, but I rather doubt it.
