MacBook Pro (need people with one_

Postby x-Swamp » Sun May 18, 2008 1:54 am UTC

Yay. Yet another post about my stupid macbook pro.

This is my 3rd repair under warranty. The dvd drive was sticking, scratching my important dvds, and refused to eject 1/2 the time. So i took the $200AU trip to Melbourne (the closest store) and got it replaced. Fine.

I got out of the store, and into starbucks, booted it up. Low and behold, it kernel panics, on boot. Every time.

I took it back to the store, talked to a techie, they took it back in, said there is nothing wrong with it, and gave it back. I demanded to talk to the manager, he came out, and said sorry etc etc, this was their policy etc etc. If it breaks bring it in again, regardless of it it works now or not. I ended up almost yelling at the guy in the middle of the store.

Now i am having communication errors when i go to burn.

Just as a matter of interest, can anyone with a macbook pro please post their drive specs for me to have a look at?

Thanks.

... Sounds like your priorities need fixin'. Normal people would be switching vendors after a $200 service trip, being handed a non-booting laptop, and then told nothing's wrong with it and to bring it back later if it still doesn't work. I don't say this just because it's Apple. I'd be saying the same thing if it were Dell, Lenovo, HP, Sun Microsystems, SGI, or even fucking Cray. That kind of customer service is just utterly reprehensible.

Also, I recommend in the future purchasing products that can be shipped off for service, rather than requiring absurdly expensive day trips to some far off land.

Chances are, the drive isn't attached firmly to the internal cable or connector, or you got a bum drive (or your motherboard is actually bad)

I know this is likely to make me sound like a jackass for trying to tell you what's in your own town, but on the off chance that it might be helpful: the Apple support page lists an authorised service provider in North Albury with the following details "Dragnet Albury, 1104 Mate Street, North Albury NSW 2640, 1800 069 050". This is their website.

Funny thing is. I went there some weeks back, and they told me otherwise.

Also what sort of training would these guys have?

Next to none my bet

I have the same one as you.

I burned a DVD for CentOS like 3 days ago, so I know mines working.
Are you using Tiger or Leopard?

The only big thing I see different between ours is yours has an older firmware revision. Um... I don't really know of anything I can do to help >< never had any hardware problems with my mac, so far anyway.
