They say you learn something new every day. What did you learn?

Today I learned that while there are many things you can do when you're home alone that you can't do otherwise, you shouldn't necessarily do them all at once. For example, if it's a nice day you can walk around without your top on, or you can leave the front door open, but you can't do both at the same time.

Sure you can. In your home you have a reasonable expectation of privacy, so it's not like you'd be guilty of indecent exposure. Unlike if you were sunbathing in your backyard topless. Being outdoors, it doesn't carry the same reasonable expectation of privacy.

Unless you mean you can't do it because someone might see, not because it's illegal. In which case you're right... someone might see. But isn't that the point of wandering around inside your home semi-nude with the doors and/or windows open?

Today I learned that satellite internet is heavily affected when it storms outside. Also, that I can check into my plane online, and print out a boarding pass.

Previously, I learned what a pig looks like. On the inside. It was simultaneously the coolest and grossest thing I have ever done. You have not lived until you have held something in your hand and said "Is this intestine? Artery? colon? I hope it's colon". Also I learned how to skin. The bacon was a bitch.

Something else I learned today: the word "learn" and its variants have a very fast "this word doesn't look like a word anymore" effect.

I learned that some kinds of music are good to write poetry to, and others aren't. I have a poetry assignment for school, and I thought that listening to a lyrically beautiful song would encourage such thoughts in myself as I wrote. The second stanza turned out as mostly the lyrics to The National's song "Fake Empire". Heh. Instrumental only from now on.

I think the failure rate has been put at a very minimum of 16%, probably something like 24%, and possibly as high as 33% for the 360.

Well, today I learnt that I really should do some more revision for my exams, as I really don't know enough.

Yesterday I learnt that waking still drunk is weird, and best solved by going back to bed again. I also learnt that revising while drunk doesn't really work.

Today I learnt that taking chances with new friends can be worth it

Otter/duck - this thread reminds me of being at uni. Every day, my friends and I would ask each other what the most interesting / amazing / surreal thing was that happened to them the day before. It was always fun seeing what goes on in a seemingly 'normal' day.

Lowering a pallet filled some 2-3m high with vegetables onto your foot hurts. A lot.

Today I learned our family at sometime had a Commodore 64 computer. However, this only came to light in an attic clear-out session, and all we found was the keyboard with no wiring for it. Apart from being seriously dusty, it was in good condition

Anyways I thought about this thread and decided to think through my last week.

Monday: Learned that getting a dental implant really does not hurt as much as losing the tooth in the first place.
Tuesday: Learned a number of things about my brother, including the fact that his wife just left him. :-(

Wednesday: Learned where a good Vietnamese place is close to work.
Thursday: Learned a lot about how to design the piece of software I was working on.
Friday: I learned that I could make good pancakes with eggbeaters instead of eggs, and they would have less cholesterol.
Saturday: Learned that my brother's project (he conceived of it, and lead the team that produced it) earned his employer an award for being the most innovative law firm in the world. Was suitably impressed. Learned that my son was sick.
Sunday: I already documented learning a song properly. While I was at it learned that my wife was part Scottish. (For years she had thought she was part English, but recently learned otherwise.)
Monday: Learned that my son currently prefers Beatrix Potter to Winnie The Pooh. (At 3 he doesn't really understand either, but he enjoys them.)

So yes, it does seem that I learn something every day. :-)

Today I learned that today (Tuesday) is named after the ancient Norse god Týr, who was one of the foremost gods of their pantheon before being somewhat relegated to the sidelines by Odin, Thor and the rest. The legends about him losing his hand to the wolf Fenrir also seem to be the basis for Tolkien's story of Beren and him losing his hand to Sauron in wolf-form.

Tuesday comes from Old English tíwesdæg, or Týr's day. His name also became a generic Germanic term for "god" and his rune was basically a penis:
