Restaurants seem a good alternative to pubs now and again, is that an option? Otherwise we'll have to follow the Circle Line around and around

Felstaff: yes, sorry the post was rather last minute, but my birthday this year snuck up on me and I realised the other day I had organised absolutely nothing. After having gone bowling last year and promised karaoke shennanigans at bloomsbury bowling this year, its a quiet(-ish) few drinks down the local tomorrow in the end.

But yeah, if anyone cares for a few drinks next week (maybe at BBKSU or the Institute of Education?(they're both in the same compound/campus as SOAS)) as a late celebration that'd be great. Any day from monday onwards should be ok for me, what days are good for everyone else?

A trip to a restaurant sometime sounds good. I actually know this really good little Uzbek restaurant round the corner... (For any Tom Holt fans

)

Actually I do know a good little Uzbek place that does a set menu for a tenner with BYO wine thats meant to be about the best Uzbek food you can find outside of the ex-USSR. I've not been yet, so maybe we should go as the Tom Holt mythos isn't a million miles from the xkcd ethos. The only problem I can imagine is that it happens to be right next to Burgess Park, so we couldn't really stay very late. But since its (kind of) just down the road anyone who cared to could take the ACME Portable Door back to my place.

It's ok. Without you, we probably would have burned the pizza - and we'd have been at a complete loss over whether or not to heat the lemon meringue. Also, we wouldn't have had any peanuts. So I guess now we're fair and square.

I am thinking of making my way down to the big smoke for the weekend of May 9th-11th. It's the Scientology protests on the afternoon of the 10th, which could be fun, but more to the point is anyone interested in a meetup later on that day?

PICNIC YAY!

For me to attend it would have to be before the 14th of June; May is ok but June is preferrable. I don't expect anyone to plan anything around me; just saying.

I am happy to help with arrangements if there are any. If so, we could meet at the Cheddar Cheese pub in May to discuss? Even if it just to arrange a few boards that say "xkcd picnic this way --->" (or more aptly, giving GPS or xy-coordinates or something).

For safe posting of numbers: use the Bandit Code.

All vowels stay the same but the consonants are doubled and an 'o' is placed inbetween so
'b' becomes 'bob', 'c' becomes 'coc', 'd' becomes 'dod' etc. It's a bit like piglatin.
Then you just write it out as words. Onone, totwowo, tothohroree, fofouror, fofivove...

[Edit: just seen 26/05/08 - I'm in something of a superstate for that date. Still, I like the whole Friday the 13th vibe if possible.]

I've created a poll on Doodle so everyone can mark the dates that suit them and we can determine which suit the majority of people.

I've added all of March, June and July so it's a little tedious, I apologise, but you just have to follow the link, type in your name and check the dates that suit you. That way we can see which dates are suitable candidates.

I'll probably link to this from the UK meetup thread too.

Thought I'd revive this thread. I've posted the dates I'm free until late June, after which I'm not sure (I have a few commitments for which I'm not certain of the dates). This Thursday looks like a particularly good date for a meetup. Hyde Park sound good? I'm free all day.

I definitely think we should have at least one or two a month during the warmer months. Possibly more.

Not being able to change dates is irritating. As mentioned above, I don't yet know when I'll be free from late June onwards.

Get coding?! Only if I can write it in basic on a 486 and everyone just downloads it from the 56k modem, adds their numerical contributions into the pre-agreed areas of code applicable to them, uploads it, and the last person to download it can debug it and run it. Of course, this system has many flaws...

However Thursday sounds moderately alright, just make it known someone else will be there and I'll try and turn up. However probably not until the afternoon/evening.
