Summer music

Oasis has a host of hits for any summer soundtrack, but as an Englishman I will assume you are already savvy to their glory. But here in the States, Oasis is my idea of summer music.

Volume 12 of Café del Mar is quite summery in my opinion, more of a mediterranean flavour though. Morcheeba has already been mentioned but I will repeat it for emphasis. As for songs, the most suitable I can think of right now is Lebanese Blonde by Thievery Corporation.

I'll probably start getting into Matisyahu again; Youth makes me stupidly happy for some reason, provided that there's sun. Something about the fusion between faux-reggae and Vitamin D, I dunno.

Can't believe i never paid attention to Matisyahu, that song is amazing, so cheerful.

Actually i listen to Gotan Project, Air, St. Germain ("Boulevard" and "Tourist" are chillout masterpieces), Yann Tiersen, Bonobo, Iron & Wine (I love the new album!), Beirut, Bob Marley, The Shins, Neutral Milk Hotel and Gogol Bordello. That's basically my summer music. Ah, and lots of bossa nova! I love that tunes!

Also, By The Way by Red Hot Chili Peppers, just because that was playin all the time during my favorite summer.
Also 'Rock Star' but I can't say I enjoyed it.

Why do you assume I'm English? I'm in Wales.

I am English, but that's beside the point. Oasis rather lost their shine for me a few years ago, but their first two albums are still masterpieces. If you're a fan of that stuff for summer music though, I recommend Supergrass, Kula Shaker, Ocean Colour Scene and Blur. Especially Supergrass, I think.

I second the Feist people, although I've only ever heard a couple songs. Also the Bob Marley people, but that's a given.

That taken care of, I think Manu Chao is definitely summer music, if you don't mind the Spanish and French as well as English. Also, some Patrick Wolf. The songs "The Magic Position" and "(Let's Go) Get Lost" are perfect summersummersummer songs. I also like "Stars" for summer, too.

Death Cab for Cutie - TV Trays, although that's more about wasting your summer. The rest of their songs are definitely very summer-y, though.

On that same note (that note being reggae & variations thereof), I have to put forward Bedouin Soundclash. They're from Ontario, but the album Sounding a Mosaic is pure Jamaican sunshine.

Bedouin Soundclash is excellent. Their newest album (Light the Horizon) just pushes all the right buttons for me, but in particular the track "Brutal Hearts" (feat. Cœur de pirate) is fantastic. It actually spawned a side project entitled Armistice - just Jay Malinowski and Béatrice Martin (aka Cœur de pirate). The 5-song EP is great.

Also, I'm not so sure about BSP not being summer music. I thought Do You Like Rock Music? was, and apparently I was right about Pixies (Debaser). Shrug.

I noticed how both of the lead singers in the songs you posted have the same weird beard. I think I spot a pattern.

IMO Trance works really well for Summer time night music.

Sublime, Rebelution, Audiobub, Pacific Dub and Vampire Weekend are all good summer bands in my opinion. And of course Angel and It Wasn't Me by Shaggy and California Love by Tupac. I'm sure there are plenty more, but I can't think of them off the top of my head.
