Anyone interested in a free badge in exchange for ~16 hours of watching anime? (and, you know, changing discs, making sure stuff is in the right mode, etc)

as a 6 year volunteer at anime conventions, I HIGHLY suggest that you people volunteer for these things. They have been some of the ABSOLUTE BEST experiences of my life, not counting the all-access free passes you get for working a couple hours a day. However, I won't be making GenCon.

Is it still in Indianapolis? If so, I can definitely do this.

Yes, it is in Indianapolis.

Your name and GenCon registration number are needed. If you're not comfortable giving those to some random forum person, send it to the website contact at http://indyanime.org (which happens to go to my mailbox) and I'll forward it to the appropriate person.

If I don't have a name and registration #, where do I acquire one?

If you don't have a registration # you can get one at gencon.com

If you don't have a name... well you're pretty much fucked - I actually think only the registration number is actually needed to find you in the system to set up the free badge, but I suspect you need a name to get the registration number in the first place.

I am definitely interested in volunteering, and am currently registering, but I wanted to know if you receive only one badge for volunteering or if you can bring someone else too. My brother is into this as well, and I'd like to take him around one day. He's 11, though, so I don't know if he can volunteer. Can you answer that?

Did you get my PM? (And is anyone else going? Too late for free badges, but it might be cool if there are more xkcd people there)

Yeah, but I can't go before the wedding, too much to do. And driving down for a sunday isn't quite worth it.
Also baby shower.
also work.

The wedding one was just a personal thing, as bunch of my friends who are going to that wedding have commented on Gencon being the same weekend, and having to make the tough decision between going to a yearly con, or seeing their friends get married.

Edit: Also in Canada, no where near there, and currently between passports... damn name change :D.

I live about a mile from there, so if people want to stop in for a shower or coffee or a visit
that's fine. I will probably stop by gencon but not do the whole thing.
My roommate/tenant will be there doing his make a foam sword booth thing.

i just missed the worldcon and otakon, so i might as well catch this one since it's here.

Cast true resurrection on the thread.

I'm going to GenCon Indy this year. I'm currently working on the passport thing, and preregistration is next week. Anyone else going out? I'd love to see some other forumites. Though I might be busy... who knows.

I'm trying my hardest to get there. I had plans all set up, but my friend I was planning to go with let me know yesterday that he can't afford it (thanks to ice storms damaging his property). So, now I've got less than two weeks to come up with something else, and I don't particularly feel like going alone.

I'll probably be spending 90% of my time around all the indie games, though, if I can make it.

Fuck. I might not be going...
Actually there's a good chance I won't be going. The people I was going to go with probably aren't going anymore, and without them, most other people probably won't.

I might go anyway... we'll see.

That sucks :( Good luck in making it, regardless!

It looks like I'll be going, though. Found someone else to go with. Even if that falls through before registration, I think I'll go anyhow. I'd rather not go alone, but I've been so excited about finally going that I don't know if I can let myself not go this time around.

We'll see after this weekend. Might as well register and tell others to register... it'll be fun to go even if I'm not with a group of my friends... right?

At least I could meet up with XKCD people and BOBs. So, that would be good... I just wish I had friends who could join me...

No backing out now. Got my badge and just reserved a room at the downtown Sheraton. Can't wait 'til I can start signing up for events!
