I'm with Future-Shock Wrestling, although the funday was done back when I worked with GPW. And yeah, I probably saw you, we went around everywhere (Including getting involved in the cowboy show, hitting on the Xena-esque strongwoman, winning the penalty shoot-out and going down the inflatable slide).

On a side note, nothing confirmed yet, but it look slike it'll be the first Sunday in February at the Morton Hall (Wherever the hell that is). It's our first show there, so attendance is likely to be low. Anyone in the vicinity should turn up, it'll be a great night.

If there is a UK meet at some point, i'd definitely like to attend. I'm currently in Newcastle but London is do-able as well.

I've mentioned the possibility of a UK meetup to Randall:

<RobinS> xkcd: If there were a UK meetup and people were willing to pay for your flight and accomodation, would you be willing to consider coming along?
<xkcd> RobinS: Er, perhaps -- my schedule is kind of crammed these days, so I can't really commit to anything new at the moment.
<RobinS> xkcd: It probably wouldn't be for a while, but maybe once things get a bit more organized we'll see if we can schedule it for a time when you're free.

*hugs RobinS* very pro-active; thanks. Now we know. It's not a given, and if we really were going to do it we'd have to plan well, plan well in advance, and make it at a time that suited him.

I am seriously considering going to the Discworld convention in Birmingham this summer. Anyone else thinking of this, or is around that area in general?

Two things:

a) XKCD UK meetup? WOO! Count me in. As long as I don't have to travel too far. I'm a Leeds guy, and a train down to London to meet a bunch of science, math and internet obsessed weird people (I am one too, so no offence... I hope), for a few hours or so, then training it back, I'm too poor, and far too lazy.

2) DISCWORLD MEETUP? WHERE!? ME WANT GO FOR GOOD COOL!

Gamma) Okay, three things. Summertime FTW. That way I can go out and not look like a small nuclear bomb is enclosed in my jacket. I get cold so easily...

Peace.

Discworld meet 08 Birmingham, 22-25th august (item 5), with an entry fee of £50GBP, staying at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel. The dwcon.org site is currently up, offering more information.

Conversely, the proposed Birmingham xkcd UK meet is on the 8th of August, staying at the travelodge, with no additional fees.

EDIT: I only skimmed Le4d's post and didn't notice those two things were on seperate weekends, I thought he was cleverly proposing we combine the Discon and xkcd meetup so people who live on the other side of the country shouldn't travel to Birmingham twice.

I propose this instead. I cannot justify traveling to Birmingham twice in one month, also my idea makes more sense. I would go if it were for both Discon and xkcd.

Would Discworld people likely be happy with a bunch of xkcdites crashing their con?

Define "crashing". They'd just be turning up - the actual xkcd-related stuff would be afterward (or beforehand), right?

I don't see why these two things would be mutually exclusive. A bunch of silly nerds objecting to a bunch of silly nerds showing up? If I do decide to go to England, it will be for the Discworld convention. (No new car for me if I do though :( *sniff*)

It appears space at the con is getting very limited, and hotel room even more so. http://www.dwcon.org/

So what about we meet up on the Friday afternoon/evening (depending on what time people can get away from work), all go out for dinner or such, get to know each other; that way when people go to the con the next day they know people as well so someone like me who is traveling on my own won't be a Billy Nomates all weekend, as an added bonus. We don't have to go to the con as a group but people can discuss what events they were planning on attending and for those who want to, little groups of us can go together sometimes. I agree a mass xkcd take-over might be less appreciated.

We can have dinner together again and if people are willing to give up some convention time on the Sunday we can organise a morning or afternoon full of proper xkcd meetup stuff, in a park or the like.

There's talk of a London mini-meetup, a picnic was suggested although it looks like finding a weekend date that suits everyone is hard, it might just be drinks.

Either way if you can and want to come to a London meetup some time soon, check the thread For those of you in London, UK; we're currently working on finding a date that suits most people.

Hi all,
I've only just signed up on these here forums and had a skim through this thread.

I also come from Macclesfield, so that's at least 3 of us. I left for Nottingham Uni and never looked back :)

Discon sounds awesome but am I right in thinking I've missed the boat on that one?

I'd be up for a meetup in a park or something, preferably with some cool goings on involving science or games in some way.

Sounds good to me. I'm not much of a cafe man, myself, being the rebellious, metalhead, sociopathic teenager that I am.

And I don't drink coffee, despite my love of caffeine. Or tea.

So that'd be 3 of us then! Good start.

Fabs isn't really a cafe, its more of a bar - with a full size Han-Solo-frozen-in-carbonite-Replica!

What part of shithole are you from then Keo if you don't mind me asking? I'm near Bingley.

We need to set a date for this shiznit.

I'm free on Wednesdays (most of them) and Saturdays.

Oh, and if anyone is interested, my course's final ensemble performance is on the 10th of June. I think it's the 10th... Hell... I'm not even sure I can invite friends! XD

I'll ask. :D if you can come, we could hang out in Leeds afterwards. :D

No. Why? Planning on taking me to some hardcore drinking clubs, where everyone gets given a keg of whiskey, and all they play is texas blues in the background, and everyone looks depressed?

I was thinking about going to the Lakes this summer with some mates (all XKCDers) where we could geohash the coords around there for a couple of days and hang out etcetera. I haven't got a date or anything yet but I'm waiting for an extra person to pass their driving test so that more of us can go. If any other people wanted to go it'd be cool, a geohashing camping trip :P

P.S. We're in the Newcastle / Sunderland area, tell me if you think it's a good idea!

P.P.S. If anyone in the Newcastle / Sunderland area wants to have a smaller meet tell me! And we can all go to the pub.
