I got into the series when my brother was browsing through an antique bookstore and found the first 2 books amid the Star Trek Novels. That's all I had for several years, until my library finally got all the books in the series.

Persoally, I really like Arya. Have since the beginning.

Wait, giggle?

Spoiler:
Are we talking about the scene where Sansa has her clothes ripped off in public? Because my emotions when reading that scene go from apprehension, to anxiety, to fear, to humiliation on her behalf and overwhelming empathy, and when Tyrion enters I don't giggle so much as...sag with relief. I suppose I'm concentrating more on what's going on with Sansa even after Tyrion comes in than on him laying the smackdown. In any case, it's kind of a hard scene to read.

The old woman, Margaery's grandmother. She invites Sansa to dinner with her and has the fool sing "The Bear and the Maiden Fair." She adjusts Sansa's hairnet at the marriage/death of Joffrey.

I love it. I've considered doing something like like that, but I'm not such a fan of the sims, so...

My current mission is to get my brother to read A Game Of Thrones. I've gotten it from the library but he just ignores it and uses his computer all day. Bloody Wanker.

Oh man, I read the first post in this thread and can't read any further. I quite literally just got the first book in this series, on the advice of several friends with good taste in books. Every one of them said it was really excellent, and once I've finished off my current reading, I'll be certain to start on them.
You know, I'm not really sure what "socioeconomic class" I am. I'm richer than my parents, I don't have a real job, and my mannerisms tend to match up with whomever I'm talking to.
