Name that Game!

Postby Roffle » Mon Apr 09, 2007 11:53 am UTC

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome! On this gameshow, we give YOU the chance to win fabulous prizes, as long as you're able to Name that Game!

*thunderous applause*

The rules are simple, you will be provided with a clue, be it a reference to an obscure NPC, or a particular area, happening, pr otherwise notable part of a popular video/computer game. Sometimes, you're even given an additional hint, to make things even easier. The first one to give the correct answer, wins one point.

And of course, each round's winner walks away with one of our amazing prizes.

Tell 'em what we've got for 'em, Johnny Evilguy.

Johnny: Well, R-man, tonight we have the following amazing and unique prizes that can be taken away by a lucky contestant:

- Respect and Admiration, courtesy of Roffle and the internet community.

- Jack Squat, the one and only.

- A hearty pat on the back.

- Nuts, courtesy of Tommy.

And of course, a free raptor-proofing if your house by Raging Raptor-proofing Inc, because you can never really be safe enough.

Allright! Some amazing prizes there, then! And don't forget, all contestants are also competing for the grand prize, namely the much sought after title of Champion of Teh Intarwebs. During the course of this gameshow, bonus questions may arise that give extra credit towards this ultimate goal, so keep your eyes and ears peeled, people!

Ok! Are we ready to play Name that Game? I can't hear you! That's right, let's go!

Okay, first clue: In this popular Real-Time strategy game, a a brave warrior named Fenix was brutally injured and nearly slain in an enemy attack, crippling him horribly, yet he was still able to return to service.

Hint: Fenix isn't human.

BONUS: This is the first bonus question, for extra credit towards the ultimate goal of being named Champion of Teh Intarwebs! Pay attention!

"Johnny Evilguy" is really an example villain in which game's Builder's guide?

Hint: Not a friend of Tommy's.

Allright, hit the buzzers when you think you have the answer, but remember, a wrong answer may subtract one from your total score, depending on the quality of wrongness.

Let's play Name that Game!

I'm sorry, but that is incorrect. I remind you again, that Felix was not human. And space marines, for all their genetic enhancements, are still pretty much human.

Also, please answer with full names, to making reading responses easier.

EDIT:

Well, this is embarrasing... The name of the NPC in question is not actually Felix, rather it is Fenix. This is a horrible typo, and on behalf of Johnny Evilguy, who's obviously screwed up badly, I apologize profoundly.

Anyhoo, let the contest continue.

Star Craft is my guess.

Edit: I believe Felix was a protoss in a...umm.. man it's been so long.. Ah Dragoon suit thing.

Edit2: Actually, that's right he did get hurt, and was able to return BECAUSE of the Dragoon suit (if my memory serves me correct, but I skipped through most of the story, and really just played multiplayer a lot).

And Gelsamel is correct, despite the typo in the original post. Well done!

Our Random Reward Generator (TM) has selected:

- Respect and Admiration, courtesy of Roffle and the internet community.

The bonus question will remain open until answered.

Next clue:

In this Role Playing Game, a company called P.Schuyler & Sons plays an integral role.

In that case...

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura

I guess I am the Champion of Teh Intarwebs (which is primarily google).

Oh boy, fun game! Can I pose the next question? Somebody besides Gelsamel answer this time...

Name the game that this comes from.

Builds your Roofs of Dead Wood.
Builds your Walls of Dead Stone.
Builds your Dreams of Dead Thoughts.
Comes Crying Laughing Singing back to Life, takes what you steal,
And pulls the skins from your Dead Bones shrieking.

Creepy, yes? This game still freaks me out when I play it...classic.

Yeah, that's thief alright, think it's number three. God, I loved 3.

Anyway, Belial has it, and bonus questions give 2 points (because they are slightly more difficult), so way to go, Belial.

Also, Arcanum is completely correct, Gelsamel wins:

- Nuts, courtesy of Tommy.

Congrats! You also get a point, though.

And also, seing as this is my thread, I declare it open for any and all question-makers, so go right ahead and post YOUR questions as well, and I'll try to keep score. I'm the referee though, so what I say goes. Just to keep things practical.

And I'll accept Thief as the answer to that question, good job bbctol!

You win:

- A hearty pat on the back.

Congratulations!

Next clue: In this popular Role Playing Game, the player might enlist the aid of a famous Salvatore character when destroying a nest of vampires.

Hint: Twinkle, twinkle?

Bonus Question!

In what game is an antedeluvianly rich environment a very bad thing?

Hint: And Werewolves will kick your ass, so run.

Score

bbctol: 1
Belial: 2
Gelsamel: 2

Bonus question answer: Vampire: The Masquerade : Bloodlines.

(Though Redemption would also fit..I can't remember if there were any Garou in that...)

(As a note, the Garou in bloodlines *could* be killed, you just had to get creative....)

Just a clarification...the quote was from the first Thief game, The Dark Project. It's from one of the mission briefings, quoted as a pagan writing, I believe.

And once again, Belial's right, it is in deed, Vampire.

Hm... Better step up the difficulty, I guess.

*diabolical laughter*

And by the way, I think I remember something about that poem. Is the game called "King" or something? But I refuse to google it. And I'm not a participant anyway.

Also, dangit, I thought it was number three, though nothing can really beat Thief 1... Gosh, what a game.

Indeed. Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow.

It was the riddle asked by the skeleton that was grafted to the gate in the underworld.

He was shocked that you could answer it, because "Love cannot exist here" or something similar.

Damnit man, I knew being asleep for 8 hours was going to ruin my score, and I knew half those answers too.

How about I pose a question.

In what popular RPG does the main villain search for a treasure atop a mountain to gain the ultimate power of alchemy?

And once again, Belial is correct.

And yes, Drizzt helps you kick Bodhi's ass. Irenicus is, by the way, one of the best villains I've encountered to date.

Oh, and BGII is awesome, so you really need to try it, Jesster. I kid you not, ironically.

So, the score is now thus:

bbctol: 1
Belial: 5
Gelsamel: 2
Jesster: 2
Puellus: 2

Time for a new question then.

In what game is your commanding officer named General Braddock?
