My all time favourite:

1) Fundaments:
Grab a baguette sliced in half (hingey, not two halves loose in the wind), some baby spinach, carrot shreds, sliced cucumber, pepper, tomato, celery, pickle if I'm feeling like it (but only half-sour or sour types - not sweet pickles, which are an abomination), and provolone cheese.
2) Auxiliaries: mayonnaise, dijon mustard, Italian dressing that does not suck (preferably something with balsamic vinegar), sprouts if you want.
3) Assemblage - mayo on both sides of the bread, mustard on the top, then spinach on the bottom with everything else piled such that solider factors like the tomatoes and cheese are helping to hold in the shreds of carrot and celery bits. Dressing gets tossed on at the end, as do sprouts if you have them.

It's basically a salad that got duped into landing on some bread. :P

Similarly good is just substituting hummus for the provolone, mayonnaise and mustard combo - and make sure it's garlicky hummus.
He does not spout ever more, new stupidities. He "diversifies his wrongness portfolio."

Best lunch ever: I baked a small ciabatta (you can buy them ready to bake), cut it in half, spread both halves with rocket pesto, then put a slice of parma ham on top of each half and returned to the oven. Chopped some mozzarella and sun-dried tomatoes, seasoned with sea salt and pepper, then topped the ciabatta halves with those and returned to the oven again for a couple of minutes. Brought it out just as the mozzarella was melting. Total time: about 15 minutes. Possibly one of the best things I've ever made. I'm going to do another one now.

So one of my friends and I came up with an amazing sandwich this summer while we had nothing in the house (random fridge raids are the mother of invention).

Avocado + Kippers + Balsamic vinegar + Tomato on garlic/onion or Jalapeño bagels.

I've never had kippers, but I do enjoy sardines, and that sounds like it'd be good with sardines. Maybe avocado on one half, cream cheese on the other.

I love me some shmear.

ARISE FROM YOUR GRAVE.

LavaLampMaster wrote:any given meat (meatloaf or chicken is best for this), spinach, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn and tabasco on cheap bread. Actually, anything that can be a full meal without bread around it makes a good sandwich. If you're cheap, just the mashed potatoes, gravy and tabasco is great too. Now for crazy good stuff, I'm going to have to agree with avocado improving everything. I no longer eat BLTs. Rather, BLATs.

I actually tried a B.L.A.T.O.

Bacon
Lettuce
Avocado
Tomato
Onion

Tastes amazing, the sautéed onions add something special to it.

Sandwiches. The thread.

Postby Peanutchair » Sun Aug 30, 2009 12:40 am UTC

Oddly enough I couldn't find a sandwich thread. If there already is one, feel free to delete away.

Now sandwiches, as well as having a name which (when pronounced), makes you feel happy, are a frequent occurence in everyday life. Unfortunately, a large number of people pass through life sticking to their conservative and boring combinations of fillings. Such as ham, cheese, or maybe if they're feeling wild ham and cheese. This is often combined with even worse choices of bread.
Either that or they travel to Subway to get a now overpriced ( paying to get it toasted. What is the world coming to?), sandwich.

So, I'm going to start by presenting you with my personal favourite and (possibly) original sandwich. It doesn't really have a name but the theme seems to be red. So name it what you will, as long as the name has a red theme.

Right. Start with a nice French baguette, not pre-sliced hovis, not even best of both. French. Baguette.

Now slice it in half (no shit), and apply a small amount of butter (type of butter optional).

Now comes the cheese, but not Edam or Cheddar. "What do you mean not Edam or Cheddar?" I hear the masses cry, "Surely there aren't any other types of cheese in the world!" Well there are, people should try them. Even them smelly ones. But seriously, Red Leicster, not exactly breaking the boundaries but it works here. Slice the cheese or grate it, doesn't matter, just cover the baguette with one thin layer.

Now get some red pepper (not spicy, sweet), and slice that, chuck it on. You're pretty much half-way there.

Chorizo, it's awesome, makes any sandwich better. TEAR it (I don't know why, but it makes you feel like a chef). Slap it on.

Tomato, real controversial but I personally like it. Slice it thinly and fit it on the sandwich somewhere.

Use any leftover cheese to cover it then put it in the microwave for around 20 - 30 seconds.

When you take it out, the bread will be soft, the cheese melted, and all the ingredients mixed in with each other.

To make it complete, you just get the crisps you like, the show you want to watch and a bean-bag.

There be my favourite. If anyone tries it be sure to tell me what you think, and if anyone can contribute their favourite sandwiches to the thread then that'd be smashing.

Perhaps not a favourite, but smashing nonetheless: Nacho sandwhich

You take Doritos (preferably Cool Original/the blue one), a slice of cheddar, two pieces of bread and a sauce of your choice. Toast both pieces of bread for a bit then take them out on put doritos onto one piece so the entire slice is covered. Put a slice of cheese on top of that and drizzle it with whatever sauce you chose. Carefully and gently crush it all with the other piece of bread so that none of it escapes from the sides. Microwave it for 30 seconds and bam. Nacho sandwhich.

Also, peanut butter + jam holds a special place in my heart.

Tried it and loved it, I then tried it again with Salt and Vinegar crisps, didn't do much. Used Thai Sweet Chilli sauce both times, (I swear I could happily eat that sauce).

New one, Pizza sandwich.

Baguette + Chicken + Mozzarella + Tomato pesto + Smattering of Goats cheese (awesome flavour). Heat this until the cheese melts.

Then prise open the sandwich and put some salt + pepper + a small amount of iceburg lettuce. Close it then nom.

Also, ham and cheese pancakes with pepper. The ultimate snack.

I've always wanted to make the B.L.A.T.O.

Bacon
Lettuce
Avocado
Tomato
Onion

Also, I only seem to truly like a sandwich on white bread. It's much more fluffy and tasty to me.

I can't believe I didn't think of it previously in this thread, but I would like to announce something that everyone with a pure heart and a twinkle in their eye knows: THE CUBANO. There is absolutely nothing that can be done to this sandwich which results in a superior foodstuff. (And that means no friggin' salami!)

One split english muffin
avocado slices
ham or turkey
havarti cheese, with dill

Toast muffin until pale gold
pile on in order
broil until cheese melts.
Try not to burn roof of mouth with hot cheese.

Really? Two and a half whole pages and no one's meantioned the Montreal Smoked Meat sandwhich?

It is simply the most delicious of smoked meats, thinly sliced, and stacked high on lightly toasted rye bread and spread with mustard (purists will insist that only standard yellow mustard is acceptable). I buy Montreal Smoked Meat at the supermarket here but I'm sure any Quebecer will inform me that it pales in compairison to the genuine article found in Montreal proper.

I`ve got a few nice ones.

cheesy bacon and egg mufin
one sliced english mufin , spread with butter of your choice and add some slices of mature farmhouse chedder to each side.
grill (broil) till gooey , add a soft poached egg w/ pinch of salt , crispy (not crunchy) bacon and ketchup to taste.

awsome salad samich
sweet red peppers
stong cheese (any)
chorizo
lettuce
avacado
bacon
spinich
ham
cucumber
salad cream or a good pickle
aboat 2 teaspoons each of maple syrup and soy sauce and mirin
sprinkle of garam masala
one teaspoon each of rice wine vinigar and cidar vinigar
any bread at all , both sides thinly butterd (great in a pitta too)

you can only use a little of each as theres so much but tastes SO GOOOD

bacon and brie with spinich and onion marmalad
place all exept spinich in a mini french stick (hinged not all the way open) and grill till gooey ,pry open and add spinich.(bacon must be pree cooked)

cheese and cucumber is nice , but you need good fluffy white bread and some strong chedder to make it work.
