... You've never seen a desk like that?

Ninja'd by phlip. I used to use a desk like that, with the keyboard and mouse on a pull-out tray, the monitor on top, and the tower (it was a tower, by the way) underneath. Dead useful.

I use one. Personally I was never able to stick half my forearms inside of the desk and type, I have to slide the keyboard out, but I'm a pretty big guy. Ah well!

See that's where I was going with it. He's a giraffe that was born sideways that never looks at the keyboard and keeps his face 6 inches from the monitor.

...within two still frames of a comic. Anyway, I almost never look at my keyboard (now that I use the raised bumps on the letters to place my hands in the dark), and when concentrating I sometimes do move closer to the monitor. What of it?

All but one of the ones since the scrabble dearth have been very entertaining.

While the last one is included in this group, I'm not sure if it qualifies as making xkcd slightly worse.

I quite like the variety in this thread - some are funny because they turn an xkcd comic into an everyday situation, with no apparent "joke" present. Others just chuck humour at you until some sticks. Others still are just shit, but that's an opinion, and each and every one of these will be funny to someone. Just not necessarily me.

We may as well just rename this as a Comic Edit or Chop Shop thread, since the "make it worse" concept died out ages ago, no one is trying to enforce it in the slightest, and I'm getting fucking tired of this remark showing up on every damn page. (And from that, assert that there exists others with similar opinions)

Thus, either the thread or the name, should be killed with fire until it is dead.

That joke requires too much thinking to be funny. While difficult, it would be an xkcd-style funny if implemented correctly.

To make it less funny (i.e. to remove the thing that makes it xkcd) would simply involve replacing the text in the last panel of the original with "Please stop tailgating me" or similar.

As for your joke (i.e. to not make xkcd less funny, since people are complaining about that being said too much), It would be much better (i.e. not require an explanation of why it is funny) to go between two places where it is impossible to go by driving. Unfortunately, that joke has been done.

Going one step further, though, your alt text should have been "I knew I should have taken that left turn at Albuquerque".

As I'm too lazy to so much as install a photo editing program on this year-old computer, much less use it, constructive criticism of others' attempts is as close as I get.

As RG pointed out (probably with the pointy ">" after his signature), my comic does not have much to do with the origional, which does not make it a true "slightly worse xkcd"

All the real work was done by pngout. Ever heard of a Ken Silverman? On average it cut ~15% off png file sizes I have around here with just the default settings. A little bit of time to understand the options for it and it usually will cut off another 5-10%. Or you find a 1MB png that really should be 250KB :D.

While this is sort of a plug for him, it's such a powerful utility that I just want to share it with everyone.
