Mad Men. Sexism and cigarettes abound

So they just showed the finale for the second season, and I'm thoroughly angry that I have to wait until spring for new episodes. Anyone else hooked on this show?

Oh, it's really great. I have no idea where the next season will be pick and what the new status quo will be but I'll certainly be tuning in next fall.

When Duck started telling Pete that Don will fall in line because of his contract, I knew that Duck was going to get hoisted by his own petard. That's what you got for making assumptions. And really, when Don made partner, would he really need a contract? Owning part of the company should be enough of an enticement for him to stay.

The finale was great, I loved Duck's reaction when he found out Don didn't have a contract.
I can't wait for next season.

i watch it, but it's sort of a guilty pleasure. i like it for the same reasons i liked sex in the city... the characters wear amazing clothes but don't seem to work that hard.

I was afraid it would totally glorify sexism but I don't think it has, if anything it's a good example of how stressed out and crazy the men get trying to defend their perilous gender roles when the world can't look forward about the place of women.

Miranda actually seemed to work hard and Carrie is a writer, supposedly a pretty good one. I don't think it completely strains believability that she's going through drafts of her columns in her head as she is seen doing other things. Also, all the things that Carrie spends her day doing is the topic she's writing about so it's necessary for her to go out and spend a lot of time doing "non-work," otherwise her column will be woefully empty.

It's brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. No need for guilt, when you have fulfilling story arcs, exciting underlying tension, portraying the sense of change happening in the era and the most amazing women characters i've ever seen in a show. No to mention the sense of detail to the sets and costumes is obsessive, which makes it beautiful to gaze at.

This show is brilliant.

The acting and 'shot choice' are just as good as the dialogue in telling the story. Lots of interesting story lines and a good reflection on society in that era.

I was talking with my mother about, who is 62 now, and she loves it because she said they nailed the sexism of the time.

I started watching this show a short while ago. Just now I finished watching episode 12 of season 1, where we find out the full extent of what happened to Don in Korea. Spoilered though I doubt many people would mind at this point.

What struck me most was how pathetic his "origin story" is - he pissed himself when he was attacked, which caused him to drop his lighter and blow up the gas tank. It's the complete opposite of Draper's current solid-rock absolute-confidence character. I loved watching him crack under the threat in this episode, not because of his suffering but because it was just so fascinating to see.

I'm really enjoying this series.

Bump. Anymore Mad Men Fans out there? Season 5 was just added to Netflix on March 25 and the show returns for Season 6 on April 7.

Watched the last season on netflix in 3 days, and it continued to be awesome. The new episodes likewise did not disappoint.

I think the attention to detail, and the level of consistency from season to season is part of what really makes this show great. They all used to smoke Lucky Strikes, but now they've understandably all switched to different brands (Don smokes camels, Harry smokes something with filters, etc) but Don still seems finds random packs of luckys in his desk sometimes.
