Also, I have heard that magmar has an evolution; that of magmortar. However, it lacks a 'mortar' attack. That is BS.
I think it's more the fact that it can be evolved, I used to play with unevolved pokemon in Yellow, but that just goes to show how easy the game is. But I dunno Arcanine is way cooler than Growlithe is.With the addition of the battle tower and stuff, it's a lot harder to get away with weak unevolved pokemon, that is if you want to play in the battle tower.
I have comment for the second half of your post as it's very head deskerific.

Also, I have never been able to get even close to filling the pokedex.

I'm not a serious player. Some day in the distant future, I'd like to complete my Crystal pokedex (192 so far) and will probably never pick up a Pokemon game again. My question is: how the hell do all you serious players find the time and the good damned patience to breed all those pokemon and train all those pokemon to lvl 100. Every time I breed something, it took ages for an egg to arrive, and even longer than that for it to hatch, and raising to lvl 100, well, my highest is lvl 65...how do you people do it?
lorenith wrote:ACU-LP wrote:I havnt played in a while, so I may be wrong, but I think the move you're looking for is fire blast. At level 40.
No he isn't, growlithe and arcanine only learn fire blast through TM, or breeding (not sure on the breeding but I think so), and it's not a very desirable move compared to flamethrower.
Oooh it kind of stinks, you have to wait till lv 50 before it'll learn flamethrower in G/S lethesoda![]()
Good luck having the patience for that, and then breeding

Damn....I really need to look into getting a ds and DP.
Is there a new version of the ds coming out any time soon?

And furthering the idea mentioned with metagross, pokemon like tyranitar have speed as their lowest stat (granted, its still higher than many other pokemon), and both due to type and defense/spdefense/hp are considered walls, yet due to very good movesets and attack/spattack stats, can be used as sweepers.hideki101 wrote:Joeldi wrote:I'm vaguely interested in learning what exactly Damage Soaks, Sweepers etc do. There are also supporters, who use moves like light screen, reflect, trick room, and wish to help your own team.
Most pokemon find their way into each category due to their stats, but movesets have a lot to do with them too: For example Metagross (high attack/def, low spd) is normally regarded as a tank, but it can learn agility, which boosts its speed up into sweeper territory (generally sweepers have high atk/spd).
