I have noticed something!

latest xkcd comic (2121):
Image
The last panel
three ships...
on a night sky...
in a time when there was no light pollution yet...

Could it be
that it was inspired by this:
Image
(phys 62)?

Image
Clearly,
this is another example
of GLR reading OTT

Can you find more?

At last, I have consumed all of my ketchup!

The arrival of my little man, who we have called Ethan, was a most molpish event - Everyone is absolutely doing wowterfally, and tomorrip he will be three wips old! Already he giggles in his sleep, which causes me a small concern that he will be both clever and mischievous!

It's lovely to be back in the Present, after spending... has it been mips or yips??... in the Basement. I do not intend to return to it any time soon, as I plan to only accumulate small amounts of condiment on a day to day basis, and consume them as regularly as possible.

I am completely enjoyONG the new story unfolding, and am learning from these frames some of the history of physics. I am, as well, entirely fascinated by the events in BSTA, and will Wait For It (although impatiently, of course; is there any other way with something so intriguing?).

Oh yes, I shall soon begin my writings once more, with the Chronicles of Cogface! He is essentially a reincarnation of Torgos, in a space-themed DnD-ish game called Rogue Trader. More details will be revealed (much like our recently revealed Revealers the Recent) as Time allows.

Stay tuned :)

Anyone who was interested has probably already noticed the thread elsewhere on these forums, but just in case not (and since nobody seems to have noticed said thread), my three-year-long project of various things to Wait For that started with the Chronicles in 2017 and ran through Eternal in 2018 is now finally making headway on the Codex this year. Updating once every two weeks, next week's update will be the 1/3 point, the conclusion of the introduction, and the start of things getting really interesting. I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts on things so far, and as they unfold, over in that last thread.

What a nice solution.
We are moving together with Earth.
So for us, the Earth is not moving.

Similar like for any vehicle.
Everything in this vehicle is not moving from your point of view.
Just this time the whole Earth is the vehicle.

Why were we afraid of falling behind the fast moving Earth?
This is actually expected,
known observation suggests that being on any fast moving object, a vehicle, a horse, etc. you will have to hold yourself otherwise you will fall from it.
So it's a reasonable conclusion that the world wants to stop you from any movement you make.
Actually there is only a universal resistance to the change of speed and not to the movement itself but we have to wait for Newton to know this.
The most common reason of resistance to movement we observe in real life is air. Most of the time it's the air resistance we feel.

Here we don't have a problem with it because the air is moving with the Earth and with us, that's why we don't feel the speed of the Earth.

At this point of physics history it is however not obvious why the air is moving together with the Earth,
(Earth's gravity is keeping the air here like any other object. At this point of history was air already treated like an actual thing or was it just the "background of the world"?)
or that the rest of outer space is not filled with air. (when did we find that out?)

Galilei's solution provides a nice answer,
the behavior of planets on the sky makes much more sense now.

But a question now appears:
WHY is the Earth and all the planets moving in circles around the sun? (or around each other with the moons)
What makes them move like this?
Will they run out and stop some day?
Or maybe something is fueling their motion?
Or what?

Epilogue

A maneuver to transcend that ruthless halt known as The End
The post-story story (or time after Time is gone)
Because somehow this is true: when all the sand has passed on through
The waiting glass, it's still not past
Just one turning of the flask suspends the silence, stops the stop, starts the start over again

Some objectors might contend that it's a waste of time to spend:
"It's the same phenomenon!"
"There's no new sand to focus on!"
But it's not the grains, it's the organization, the combination, that instant when
A newness comes from oldness; we amend
What we know and what is gone to build ourselves a different dawn

That simple turning (post-The End) is our cue, we start anew
All those grains to reassemble, all those sandcastles to tend
We form them fast--they might not last
But that's never what we asked; more Time together, now or never, you and me, now let's begin!

Every conclusion that is penned
Every final frame that's drawn
We may corkscrew and feel blue, but still somehow this is true
Though we're aghast, we will broadcast
Hopes and thoughts 'cross oceans vast to stop the silence, start the start, begin the story yet again

And even on this sixth new dawn
We're still together, friend to friend,
Now to past, it seems so fast,
Who would have thought that we'd outlast and end The End?

Oh, BlitzGirl...;
That is lovely.

Thank You, BlitzGirl.

6 years, already?

It means I have followed Time and later OTT for a longer time than I have been a student.

I'm not even the same Balthasar I was when Time started.
I was a student who didn't know what the future will bring.
Now I live in my own place, go to an actual FFS and can do whatever I want! (ok, maybe not anything but you know what I mean)

I never stayed in any other online place for so long.
Somehow even if the OTT has continued to change through these 6 years it is still somewhere I want to go.

Also, welcome back, Blitz Girl.
It is good to see you here again.
I liked reading the words you had to say here.

"Welcome back"?
Didn't the OTT have a special version of it?
"Welcome forward"?
No, that would be silly.
"Welcome bag"?
Yeah, that must be it.
Probably.

...Is that a Image pun? From balthactualFFS? Surely things haven't changed that much! I like reading your words too, balthasilly, but if you've gone down the punning path I will have no choice but to deploy donuts...or worse!

Thank you, addams (ooh, and Sciscitor in the post preview)! It's an epilogue poem based on...uh...whatever iteration of the epilogue sequence the OTC is trying to go through right now. The mscha.org page seems to believe it is from a halfmip in the Future so I don't know how accurate the sequence is, but the poem uses it as the rhyme scheme: DCBAE DCCEDC BDAE DCBAE CDAE.

Speaking of poetry, treeish pasthaiku, svenman. :) I spent so long trying to figure out what I should make for 9000 posts that I accidentally basemented myself with indecision mustard. Oops.

And now I'm the pagegoat? Yes, I'm the pagegoat. Image
