This is exactly how it was for the Wii lines. We felt so bad telling people that they were sold out.

At least I got one though!

is there an ALT text, because if there is, Internet Explorer wasn't showing it.

(and in my defense, I do use firefox, but I'm home for break and my old computer doesn't have it...yet)

we were'nt quite so nice in the Wii line. Well sort of not so nice
Personally I started the list because I got there twelve hours before anyone else with my floor mate (we were there for 38 hours, although quite unnceccasirly). People would come and we would be like, there are 60 systems and you are number 61, sorry buddy. Then some asshole was like "You have no ******* authority. blah blah blah" On the whole, I got a Wii and am rather happy I didn't get shot.

That's funny.

The 360 release in my town wasn't too big. Maybe 30-40 people and there were consoles for everyone. Everyone was really nice and social, it wasn't really a line. More just a crowd waiting out front. Then we were issued tickets and went in and got it.

Actually my friend got it, because it was his 360. I was there for the midnight release and we played it all night! :D

thats how it was for us
like a big campout infront of the store very friendly environment among those getting a system. Apparantly after I passed out some little kids were being unruly, but I was asleep so couldn't care less.
there ws a surprising number of kids there without parents.

I don't like this comic.

It seem suspiciously pro-Nintendo.

Is that an easel between two of the Nintendoids, or is that just a Freudian misparse?

Edit: ... never mind, someone in LJ pointed out that it's a chair. I liked my version better, though.

I mentally connect the Wii to this commercial:

Isn't it more pro-Nintendo fan? I don't think it makes any comment about the consoles (although it suggests that Nintendo is better cos their fans are nicer)

It's only pro-something if it's biased. This comic portrays the brutal truth therefore isn't biased and hence not pro-something.

Pro-xkcd....

Sorry, I just had to post that as a response :P (I doubt its accuracy though)

Also, the most important question, when will the PS2 price drop happen?

On a vaguely related note, has anyone read Jennifer Government, by Max Barry? They do a similiar thing where they hire someone at Nike to shoot people buying the shoes, for publicity.

Also, I have never ever had any type of console. We were never allowed. I used to savour playing Spiro on my friend's Playstation because we never had anything of our own :P

Yeah, people seem to be being shot over a mysterious bastard child of the PS3 and the Wii, or possibly fractional people are being shot over non-existent consoles. I'm not sure.

So like... a High graphic Ps3/Wii with Wiimote at a mediocre price, so technically it's awesome, but it's sterile because of the interbreeding, and possibly retarded, so it crashes every now and then.

Yep, I'd kill for that. I'd kill fractional people for that.

My GOD!

People were shitty that the Xbox was massive, and that the Xbox 360 was big and clunky too, but check out the PS3! It's a giant!!! And the Wii... well it's like PS3's Younger and super hot and slim sister.

Double posted!!! >:3

Being from the UK I have to wait until 8 December for my Wii, but I wandered into the Gamestation where I preordered it yesterday and asked them how many they'd be getting on release day.

"Oh, at least a hundred and fifty, maybe two hundred. One for every preorder, one for every single staff member, and at least fifty or sixty for whoever shows up that day."

This is a tiny store in a shitty part of East London, hidden far out of the way at the end of the high street with a much bigger Game store that gets more business right in the middle of town.

I don't think we'll have any lines here :)

Anybody else mis-parse the slanted-line part of the sidewalk (above the heads of the newcomers) as a line to a missing speech bubble instead of part of the sidewalk?

This is exactly what happened in my line. I waited at Wal-Mart for 10 hours to get my Wii at 12:01 yesterday morning (then I stayed up til 5:30 playing with my Wii...) and I was #27 out of the 28 Wiis they had.

The people in line were so cool. We actually convinced 2 more people to stay in line for hours after #28 had his spot because someone's credit card might not go through or something.

There were 5 other people with DSs. Mario Kart DS + only 1 cartridge is needed for up to 8 people + hours upon hours with nothing to do = Great time!

My god the Wii is incredible. I've already played Zelda for 5 hours and the story is awesome! It is so much fun and wailing the sword around is just sweet. The Wii sports game is a lot of fun also. Golf is a lot of fun and the bowling game I really got into. Boxing is a hell of a workout, though.

What's even funnier is when the police come in and disperse the crowd because a) the store didn't get a permit for such a large gathering or b) they were being too disruptive in the mall. Both happened around here. Some people waited in line far days, until the cops told them to go home.

wtf?
you are not serious are you?
i mean if some of the waiting peeps fuck up with other customers of the mall, then the police can get them out, but why would they send home guys that waited days (!!!!!) in line?

wtf?

What's wrong with xkcd sharing an opinion (that the Wii is the only console he is likely to get) ? It is hard not to have biased opinions on games companies, particularly Nintendo, as they have been around for so long. Also: read the comic title - the people hanging outside the line are FANS, not representatives of Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft. And in any case, Bill Gates is a dick.

a 19-year-old man ran into a pole and struck his head racing with 50 others for one of 10 spots outside a Wal-Mart.

I shouldn't laugh... but I am. I dare ask though, why wait in line? The PS3 doesn't lauch with Metal Gear Solid 4 or final fantasy 12. The Wii doesn't launch with Brawl, but at least has Zelda.

I guess the sony fans are just afraid sony won't be able to manufacture more than 200k of these things a year =P
(In all fairness, I've heard the BluRay LEDs (laser diodes?) aren't exactly easy to manufacture... but still -.-;;
